Who Made This Big Mess?

Date: Monday December 24, 2007
Posted in: Emily, Family

I was not planning on posting again until after Christmas, but something happened yesterday that requires sharing. I called my Mom to tell her about it, and even emailed her some photos. While (miracle upon miracles) my Mom knows how to check my site, she could not figure out how to open the attached photos.

Thus, a post was born.

For anyone new around these parts, I have a daughter. Her name is Emily but we often refer to her as Miss Emily.

Miss Emily

Her name just screams to have a Miss placed in front of it. She is also destined to have a bit of The Princess Syndrome as she is a) the baby of the family and b) the only girl. The teenage years are going to be AWESOME. I can feel it.

This is assuming that we survive the Terrible Twos.

Miss Emily has been a holy terror bit of a challenge lately. Her newfound walking skillz are passe. She wants to climb on toy chests (and fall off), empty every kind of container of their contents and pretty much KEEP ME ON MY TOES TWENTY-FOUR HOURS A DAY. OK, maybe just the twelve hours or so that she’s awake, BUT STILL.

Yesterday was Sunday and on Sundays we go to church. Matthew leads the Sunday School program so he leaves before the rest of us and gets home after the rest of us. I got Emily into her pretty Christmas dress above and even managed to snap a couple of shots of her before I bundled the kids into the van.

Upon arriving home after church I quickly stripped her of that pretty dress in order to keep it clean for tonight’s Christmas Eve service. I ran up to my room to (Quickly!) change out of my dress clothes (Hooray for yoga pants!)…and returned to THIS:

Big Mess

Apparently Miss Emily was helping me get a good start on the Christmas baking I did yesterday afternoon.

My first reaction was to the tune of, “Oh, Emily!”

Now? I cannot help but giggle every time I look at that photo. I invite you to do the same. Consider it a Christmas present from me to you.

Merry Christmas!

Oh my word. I used to think, “Why don’t parents watch their kids? How do they let them get into this stuff?” Then I had kids. And found out. God has a sense of humor, that’s for sure.

Miss Emily is looking less like a baby and more like a little girl.

That is too funny! At least you got her out of that beautiful dress before this happened. I caught my 8 yr old wiping her donut mouth on the sleeve of her christmas outfit yesterday and she is supposed to wear it again tonight to our christmas eve service.

Our lives would be boring without our kids!

Merry Christmas (yesterday) !!

I know exactly what you’re going through. Paige is our little monkey, she climbs everything, tears into everything, and sees to it that tiny little items are relocated around the house.
