We Get By With A Little Help From Our Friends

It is no secret that I thrive on the friendships that I’ve been lucky to have bestowed upon me. I even have a whole category devoted to those friends. I’ve had some hiccups over the years, yes, but haven’t we all? Us humans are hopeful yet cautious, trusting yet guarded, flawed but authentic. We try to make our way through the web of relationships within our reach and sometimes get tangled along the way.

Last week was a bit of a shake-up for me, friend-wise, but it was also a good reminder that I have so many good people who choose to trust me with their friendship and who come to my side without hesitation. It was an affirmation that the people that I choose to trust, for the most part, are deserving of that trust. I have an extra dose of thankful going on.

I stopped at my mailbox yesterday and opened it to see a parcel from my friend Hillary. She has sent me mixed CD’s in the past, for my birthday and to just encourage me, and she done gone and did it again.

Music Love

I have a family that I love (and am in love with) and friends both here in town and whom I’ve met online (and also, in person) who have made my life richer that the awkward eighth-grader in me I ever thought was possible.

I’m feeling particularly thankful and schmoopy and whatnot but, hey. I can’t help it. Thank you for being a friend.*

*I couldn’t help but throw the Golden Girls theme song out there, what with my advanced age and all.

  2. Friends make life so much better, don’t they?
I love mix tapes- we just moved into our new house and I made a mix of all songs I could think of, new and old, with the word “home” in the title. Great fun!

Thank goodness for the internet- one of the best ways to keep in touch with friends far away.

  6. Friends + Mail = AWESOME

We’re lucky when we’ve found people who love us even when we can’t love ourselves or who will tell us the truth even if it might sting. I had a bit of a run in with a friend this past week and while it hurt, it also helped me feel more appreciative that I have people in my life who care enough to show up for me.

I consider myself lucky that the internet allows me a wee window into the lives of you and your beautiful family.
