Using My Gifts For Good

My buddy Heather over at OMSH challenged her readers to do a post to encourage someone you love, be it your husband, friend, etc.

I had already been planning to do a post tonight in honour of a friend of mine. I have also been thinking lately that it is high time to do a post in honour of my amazing husband Matthew (aka Honey). I am no stranger to posting about my Honey, but I am overdue for an ode to my sweetheart.

I take Heather’s challenge. My main love language  is “words of affirmation” and spiritual gift is “encouragement”, so this is perfect for me. I am going to do a two-person special. I have been blessed beyond measure, and I hope that my words can do a fraction of the same for two of the most important people in my life.

Let’s start with Karen, shall we?

Last night a whole bunch of us boarded a Handi-Dart (I kid you not!) and did a wine tour and dinner in honour of a friend’s birthday. Matthew was with me (of course) and also along for the ride were our friends Karen and Travis.

The word “friend” does not seem sufficient enough to describe my relationship with Karen. She is not only a friend. She is family. And yet that still does not do justice to how I feel about this amazing woman.

I have known Karen for fifteen years. That is almost twice as long as I have known Honey, and it is almost half of my lifetime. She is the kindest, funniest, smartest, sweetest, most giving, most fantabulous (Yes, it’s a word) person. If you don’t know her, you should get to know her. Except don’t cut into my Karen time, or expect a flaming bag of poop on your door step.

She is first person I call when I have good news. Or bad news. Or sad news. Or funny news.

She was my roommate who was waiting up for me when I came home from my first date with Matthew. She has been here for me whenever I needed her. She is a part of me and I could not imagine life without her. Lucky for me, she is a part of my daily life.

Last night we were out on the deck of a winery and she brought up the fact that the last picture we have of the two of us? Was from when we were roommates. EIGHT YEARS AGO.

Roomies

We take a billion pictures of each others’ kids, and I have many a photo of her and Travis (and she of Matthew and I). But we never seem to take photos of us two girls. We remedied that last night.

Karen and I

She is the best. Really.

I love you, Karen.

And as for Honey?

He is my perfect companion. He is not perfect. I am not perfect. But together? We are perfect.

Me and Honey

There is not a day that goes by that I do not thank God for this great man that I get to (I GET TO!) call my husband.

He is patient when I am not. He is strong when I am weak. He is funny when I am grumpy (though most times it drives me crazy). He is rational when I am not. He is logical when I am out of sorts. He is proof that not only is God good, but that God gives you way more than you would ever hope to ask for yourself.

In addition to the above?

Matthew

He is hot.

And all mine. ‘Til death do us part.

Awesome.

It feels good to spread the love. You should do it too. Who doesn’t like to be encouraged?

Speaking of love, I’m going to spend some time with mine. Peace out.

  2. Those are both great photos of you and Karen. Friends like that are the best, aren’t they? I have known my best friend since we were 3, which means we’ve known each other almost 30 years! It’s a relationship that has no comparison. :-) We are truly blessed.

  3. Aw, shucks. Really, YOU are the best. You had me all weepy over here. I think we’ve aged pretty well though, don’t you?

Also, I was on that handi-dart like at least 40 years sooner than I ever thought I’d be. But I’m glad you were there too!

  4. Good friends must be cherished. Cathy is my Karen and I don’t know what I would do without her.

And what you wrote about Matthew could be about Jay. Of course I would never be able to express it quite so eloquently :-)

    God is good!

That was an awesome post! It’s good to sit back and look at what we’ve been blessed with. I hope that one day, if/when I get married, I’ll have as strong of a relationship as yours!

I agree, though. You are married to a hottie!

  13. Karen and I have known each other since we were 4 ~ first day of kindergarten! And, yes, I can attest, she is one of the dearest friends I have. Every time I talk to her, I get off the phone thinking I wish we lived closer. I’m glad you cherish her so since she’s very special!

Awww! I read that OMSH post, and I have to do one of these too. It’s so wonderful to read of a wife who loves her husband! In this day of divorce (not me, just people in general), it’s refreshing!
