This, That, and The Other

So. I feel like I should post because it’s been, like, TWO WHOLE DAYS. Problem is, a lot of what is buzzing around in my head is not very exciting.

Blah, blah, blah…work is still crazy busy…blah, blah, blah…only nine days left!…blah, blah, blah…the end is in sight and I can taste it. It tastes good.

On to this, that…and the other.

This

Graham and I had a one-hour orientation in his future Kindergarten class today. Here he is all gussied up and excited to go:

Kindergarten orientation

He had a great time meeting his (possible) future teacher. A few of the kids from Playschool were there, and he did not want to leave after the hour was up.

Makes sense.

When he graduated from Playschool last week he was given a scrapbook that they made throughout the year. One of the last pages in it was another one of those “leading questions” sheets like they filled out for Mother’s Day. One of the questions went like this:

When I go to kindergarten I will…play there and take my bed there and sleep there.

And I think he would, if we let him.

Except that Nathan would be very sad.

Before the drama

He cried and cried (and cried and cried) when Graham and I were leaving today. (I didn’t take a picture. I’m not that mean. Just imagine snot and tears. Lots of tears…and LOTS of snot.)

He wanted to come too. I told him that he wasn’t allowed to come, and that he had to stay. His response? “That’s not a good idea.”

He’s totally going to Preschool in the fall.

That

After the morning excitement and drama we returned home for lunch. I checked my email and had a cryptic message titled “Photo” from my Internet buddy Whoorl. It said, “You better send me a cute photo for Whoorl!!”

Huh?

So. I checked out her site and saw what she was referring to. Sounded like fun! Off I went outside, camera in hand. If you know me, you know that I abhor taking self-portraits. I’m not against photos of myself. It’s just that when I do a self-portrait, something goes wrong with my face. I look like I’m constipated…or just like a deer-in-the-headlights.

I ended up taking about fifty. Or maybe even a hundred. Seriously. I emailed her my four least-hated ones and this is the one she chose:

Mug shot

It works…I guess. It’s good enough to be part of the mosaic party, and that’s what I was aiming for. I updated Facebook with it too. Hopefully this one will last for awhile.

The Other

Emily has been trying to pull herself up. I KNOW. She can’t get all the way up yet, but she can pull enough to peek over the edge of the coffee table.

If we stand her up, she as happy as a pig in poop. She stands there all smiley and smacking the table. And checking out the distance to the floor.

It’s a long way down…

Oh, man. If she’s anything like her brothers she’ll be walking before her first birthday.

(Insert scream here)

She and Graham were having a hoot at the coffee table together. This is one of my faves:

G & E

I’m too tired to think of a good ending to this post.

(Insert nice wrap-up sentence here. With a big “HI!” thrown in for good measure.)

Standing already! Wowzahs. Brooklyn has decided to work on getting into a sitting position from being on her belly. She’s almost got it mastered. And instead of clapping she’s decided to grab both her feet and clap them together. I am so amazed at how much these little ones are learning.

  2. Wow, already standing! Way to go Emily!
I TOTALLY understand the excitement on Graham’s part about school, and Nathan’s desire to join him. SOOOOO exactly like it was in our house! ;-)

  4. What a big girl!
And I guess you’re just not narcississtic enough to love taking self-portraits. I, on the other hand, can’t get enough of myself. :)

  6. Kindergarten sounds like fun! I want to go…

For the record, that’s not a bad shot of you! But I know what you’re saying. My self portraits don’t look right. When I see them, I think, “Do I really look like that? Motherhood must be taking a toll on me…”
