I awoke this morning to black, ominous clouds. The lightning was vivid, bright, and piercing. The thunder was loud and earth-shattering.
This was all happening in my head.
I woke up this morning as Ms. Grumpy McGrumperson. Not that the general public would bear the wrath of my grumpiness. I save all of the CRAZYINSANEFREAKINESS for Matthew (I love you, Honey!). The kids may or may not get a glimpse of my head splitting in two.
In the midst of my Festival Of Happy Times, I thought I should take all three kids to run errands with me. SUCH A GREAT IDEA. I am brilliant, don’t you know?
I need to add that I like to bring The Crazy up a notch. I am a rational and level-headed person by nature. So much so, that when in the throes of an attack of The Grumpies, I am constantly talking to myself and telling Miss Me to CALM THE HECK OUT.
What I would not give for the ability TO JUST BE COMPLETELY IRRATIONAL FOR ONCE. I think it might just be AWESOME.
But I would not know, because I am a RATIONAL irrational person. Go me.
On the drive home with the kids while cranking the music to drown them out I tried to figure out what was up. It’s not PMS (That was last week. Sorry for TMI) so I cannot blame it on hormones. Oh, that I wish I could.
I think it basically boils down to the fact that I am BUSY. I have THREE KIDS. I am SELF-EMPLOYED, which means that I am NEVER DONE WORK. I may also be a LITTLE NERVOUS ABOUT A CERTAIN CONFERENCE THAT I AM ATTENDING IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
(I fly out two weeks from today. I might just die from the stress. And nervousness.)
I have also been furiously working on editing wedding photos. Which are DONE. Here is a sample for those who are interested. (I tried to use a Flash plug-in, but I suck. I am doing what can…bear with me, folks. Thoughts on the photos are always welcome, however.)
Honey was beaten to death with sensed my bad attitude and told me that the day was mine to choose from. Miss Emily was napping, Graham was building his fiftieth Lego toy, and Nathan and I sat in the shade of the tree and talked about our favourite things.
I would share it here, but would not give it justice. It was one of those snippets in time that will forever be etched in my brain. To try to capture it in words would only cheapen the experience. I can assure you, it was truly magical.

He is one of my favourite things.
After Emily’s nap we packed up the kids (And some chips) and headed to the lake. It was just what I needed to clear my grumpy, foggy head.
The sun warming my skin, the water cooling my feet, the sound of my children laughing from the depths of their bellies. I needed it all.

The thunder has passed, and the rains have stopped. The clouds have parted and the sun’s rays are shining down.
I am feeling much better now. Not quite Little Miss Puppies And Rainbows, but more like Little Miss Chilled Out.

The grumpy days are so hard as a parent, at least I find, because you have to simulatneously deal with the grumpy and the guilty for how you perceive you’re acting towards others. But, from the pictures you posted it looks like everyone had a great day despite what you feel you were portraying. I hope the sun is shining for you tomorrow!
Comment by Amanda Franks on July 2nd, 2008 @ 8:11 pmThere is thunder in Seattle tonight.
Glad things turned around. Maybe we should make a pact to stop freaking out about BH?

Loralee’s last blog post..Kind of like Post Secret except you won’t have to make a card or spend money on a stamp. (And obviously, it’s not NEARLY as cool and awesome)
Comment by Loralee on July 2nd, 2008 @ 8:56 pmAww. I’m glad things are ending sweeter for you.
How am I? Well, I’m fussy because I was kicked out of bed tonight for being too hyper and wanting to TALK TOO MUCH. I just had so much to say and I would NOT shut up. My poor husband just rolled over and said GET OUT OF HERE. GO INTERNET OR SOMETHING.
So I am avoiding the chip bag, and trying to calm down enough to sleep. LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA.
It’s not working. Can you tell?

Comment by Jennifer on July 2nd, 2008 @ 9:00 pmI’m glad I’m not the only one who wakes feeling like that! And I don’t have the excuse of having three kids and a thriving business, etc.!!! I don’t know how you do it all, honestly.
Great pics, as usual.

Comment by Dana on July 2nd, 2008 @ 9:22 pmThose wedding photos are stunning! You did an fantastic job!
I’ve had a day of ups and a few downs, but it’s nothing too out of the ordinary. I just watched SYTYCD, and that always makes me happy – seeing the incredible dancers. And of course the eye candy (namely Twitch and Will tonight – yowza!) always makes me smile.

Comment by Michele on July 2nd, 2008 @ 10:21 pmWe all have those evil days, don’t we. When I get like that I feel as though I just suck. Hate it.
I loved reading what you said about your time with Nathan. It made my heart leap a little. It’s a mama thing… tucking those treasured times away in our hearts for our later years when memories will be all we have. Amazing.
May the sunshine RULE tomorrow.

Comment by Andrea on July 2nd, 2008 @ 11:21 pmYou know what kiddo, I just think we have times like that because we all live such busy lives. And I’m glad that you got out of it. You’re human. You are allowed to be irrationally rational at times.
And also, I’m freaking the heck out about that certain conference too. Eeek!

Comment by Kristabella on July 3rd, 2008 @ 7:30 amThat last picture of Nathan is breathtaking.
Sometimes you have to embrace the grumpy. You have to let yourself feel bad or angry or down or blue or stormy. I think that’s only healthy and normal and it makes the sunny skies that much brighter. At least that’s what I tell myself (and Mike) when I feel especially grumpy.
