The Skinny On Saturday

Saturday was, for the most part, a pretty fantastic day. It just ended kind of poopy. Literally.

It started out on a great note. I decided to step on the bathroom scale. You think I’m being sarcastic, but I’m not.

I mentioned a few weeks ago about those last ten pounds I want to lose. I have learned in my almost 32 years what works for me to get to and maintain a healthy weight. During Christmas I can usually stick pretty close to my guns, but this year I was a little lazy. Once Christmas ended however, I had a chat with myself and got back on track.

So, I stepped on the scale, and behold! I had lost five of those ten pounds! Awesome.

I headed to my closet and there before me hung my Skinny Pants. There are actually two identical pairs, both from my favourite store (Jacob Conexxion). One pair is black and one is khaki.

Over Christmas I tried them on. I got them up and could do the button up. And the zipper up. Barely. It wasn’t a pretty sight. They came off and I hung them back in the closet.

On Saturday, I held out hope that they might actually fit. I walked slowly to our walk-in closet. I breathed in and out and gingerly took a pair off of the hanger. They went on no problem and zipping them up was a breeze. I did a happy dance right there in front of the mirror. I still have a bit of “muffin-top” or “soft serve” to get rid of, but they fit comfortably. Again, awesome.

Karen and I spent the afternoon shopping. I got Emily her Bumbo (It’s actually a present from my mom. Thanks, Nana!) and we hit Costco. Then we went to the mall. I had Jacob gift certificates burning a hole in my pocket.

I thought I would be cautious and try on a pair of pant a size up from my Skinny Pants. They were too big! So, I got a nice new pair of brown pants in my skinny size. Not only that, I also got a new pair of jeans. For $9.99 no less. I still have gift certificates left for some spring clothes.

Upon arriving home, the day got even better. Matthew had cleaned the house (including washing the floors) and was making a yummy dinner. He made chicken breasts stuffed with a garlic mushroom mixture as well as some veggies. So very good.

After Emily woke up from her third nap I nursed her. When she was done I went to the bathroom. And remained there for a while. Something went horribly wrong in my bowels and I was not going anywhere.

I was not feeling well the rest of the night or for most of yesterday but I feel back to normal today. I think it was just a 24 hour bug and nobody else got it. It might have even helped in my weight loss goals but I haven’t checked.

I hope I don’t come across as gloating. I’m just really excited. I was a “big girl” growing up and even though I have known how to be fit for the last six years or so, I still have this fear that I’m going to fatten up again somehow and never make it back. I have to work hard at fitting into those pants (like having NO CHOCOLATE until my birthday), so it makes me happy when I see results.

I would post a picture but I don’t have one. I even have my new tripod and could do a self-portrait. Alas, I have not washed my hair today (though I showered) and it’s up in its standard ponytail. Plus, they say the camera adds ten pounds. Never mind the fact that I can’t take a self-portrait to save my life. When someone else takes the picture, I’m pretty happy with the results. When I try to take a self-portrait, I make the weirdest faces. I don’t know what happens but it’s quite funny. Maybe I should take some and post them so you can have a laugh at my expense.

Hmmm…that might be a good post idea for another day. I could also post some pictures of me as a teenager. Even funnier. Ask anyone who has seen them. They’ll concur.

I’m off to build some more Play Doh “animals”. Happy Monday everyone.

  6. I’m jealous! Maybe when Olivia is three months old I’ll get into my skinny pants. It is highly doubtful though. My body tends to cling onto the last ten lbs with a death grip only anorexia could resolve. And lets face it, I like food too much to be anorexic. Good job Ange. Another birthday in your thirties looking smokin hot!

  7. I remember that feeling of fitting into “skinny jeans” after Ian was born. When I tried them on in the dressing room at the store and found that they fit (!!!) I did a happy dance up and down the aisle between the stalls and proclaimed the size for all to hear. Then one woman sarcastically aksed me if I was bragging or something. I retorted happily that “Yes I am because I just had a baby and this makes me feel GREAT!”
So go ahead and brag, after giving birth to three children your definitely entitled to it.

  11. Oh fun, you had an awkward stage too? I had the full deal…braces, acne, ridiculous hair, bony (apparently)… I’ve got a few nasty pictures I could post. Please post your awkward pictures. I love seeing people’s awkward pictures…especially since kids these days don’t even have awkward phases (unfair).

Congrats! That is awesome to hear, I’ll refer to your post often in the next few months as I definitely get serious about losing some weight! The skinny pants are better than any chocolate anyway! Also glad your ickyness didn’t hang around!

I thought I was the only one who still held onto my ‘skinny’ pants! Yay for you that you are in them again so soon after the baby=) You must have great self-discipline!

  17. Congrats. I have never been a bounce back after pregnancy kind of person, but I can still be happy for those who make it back before the first birthday. But…you look great with or without those 10 lbs. (or 5?? or 0?) Must feel fantastic, though…and it’s all about how you feel! Yay!

  18. I think you have every right to be excited about losing 5 lbs. I know I’m ecstatic when I lose 5!!

I love the slang “muffin top”. I had only heard it a couple of months ago, but thought it was so fitting to the situation at the time!

I hear great things about the Bumbo seat. Maybe this child will have to have one.

  19. I loved the day (around 4 months post-partum) that i discovered my entire wardrobe fit. (Except for a couple of tight shirts – breastfeeding boobs!) Congrats!
