The Office

This is not a post about The Office the TV show. It’s definitely one of the FUNNIEST SHOWS EVER, but I don’t think I could say anything about it that would rival the sheer genius that comes out of their mouths.

Most of you know that both Matthew and I are self-employed and work from home. We have an actual office that he and his Dad work in. His office hours are generally Monday to Friday, 8 to 4:30. I do all of the payments/bookkeeping for all that they do, and I have my own desk in there where I do that office work.

In addition to humbling myself to the status of a mere bookkeeper (no offense to anyone – I just went to school FOREVER to get some initials), I keep my CA designation fresh by working on a contract basis for the School that trains CA students. I love what I do.

My “work hours” happen on Honey’s lunch break, and in the evenings and on weekends. My “office” for doing what I do is a nice IKEA corner cabinet pictured here. I can occasionally sneak in extra time when Emily’s napping and the boys are watching T.V. solving complicated mathematical equations just for fun.

Some days I get frustrated with the scattered hours I get to do my (paying) work. I think wistfully about actually going to an office and having uninterrupted time to blog do my work. But then I’d miss the exciting day-to-day stuff that happens with my kids. You know – the poopy bums, baby barf and the WHINING. I mean, the hugs and kisses and the cuddles. And statements like, “Mommy? You’re the GREATEST!”

Then there are also days like today. The sun is shining and it is warm. How warm? Tank top and sandals warm. That’s right, baby! Emily went for her afternoon nap after letting me take a bunch of sweet photos of her. Here’s a sample. Warning: the cuteness may hurt your eyes.

Matthew took the boys for a hike up the hill behind our house. This is a photo using my zoom lens. Graham is looking at me with binoculars.

Since the weather was so stellar, I did what anyone with a laptop and a wireless Internet connection would do. I moved my “office” outside.

I know. The view is awful.

Here I am! Don’t I look happy to be outside?

I’m also happy that it’s Easter Sunday tomorrow. We’re going to get all gussied up (including Emily in her first Easter Dress) and head off to celebrate the real reason for Easter. We’re then going to do our first egg hunt with the boys. God and chocolate…two of my favourite things.

That, and the fact that there will be no work done tomorrow.  While working on the deck is great, not working at all is even better.  Time with my family out in the sun…doesn’t get much better than that.

  9. I wish we could have taken a photo of all the gals in their Sundays best. :( Maybe next year, when they aren’t crying/screaming/being left in the church nursery by their father. Enjoy the Easter weekend. :)
