The Last Day Of Summer

Saturday was not just about throwing horns.

The day in general was a busy day. I spent all morning grocery shopping and errand running with the boys, while Matthew puttered around the house and Emily napped.

I had planned for a low-key afternoon at home. Matthew was out for a few hours and I had just planned on playing in the yard with the kids. Plans changed, as is often the case, and I had to run into town with all three kidlets.

For some unknown reason, I tossed my camera into my bag. I don’t normally do that if we’re just running errands.

We finished what we had to do and I got everyone back into the van. We were all buckled in and I put the van in gear. The plan was to head home.

I tossed that plan to the wind with reckless abandon. Go me!

We have been having stellar weather for September. The days have been hot but the nights cool off to an acceptable level. The weather report on the radio informed me that the weather was going to turn much cooler on Sunday. Saturday was the last day that could be considered a “beach day”.

We were a mere five minutes from the beach.

So? On a whim, I took the kids to the beach with the water park. We had no towel, no beach blanket and no snacks.

The kids were appalled by my lack of planning and refused to have any fun whatsoever.

Nathan running!

Nathan was so utterly disgusted by my unpreparedness, as you can see.
Water, water everywhere!

And Graham? He was mortified that there were no towels on hand.

Water gun!

Because as he demonstrates here, he hates getting wet.

Shower!

Good thing I had my camera along so I could document their complete and utter misery.

The Dudes

Emily wanted no part of it either, and stayed out of the water.

Miss Emily

She also did not put any rocks/leaves/sand in her mouth when I was busy snapping photos of the boys.

It’s a good thing that I subjected the kids to such a horrendous time at the water park. Clouds blew in yesterday and I spent the afternoon making some lasagna to freeze for later. Lasagna! You know fall has arrived when you start making lasagna and other comfort foods. Now that it’s cooler I also have a hankering for some buns. With butter. Even though the food is good in the fall (And the routine! Yay routine!), I really will miss summer. Maybe it will come early next year. Like in February. A girl can dream.

In the meantime I’ll just gaze at this shot of the lake that I managed to take amidst the chaos of three kids at the water park.

Sailboat on the lake

I miss summer already.

I’m just so distraught that the boys didn’t appreciate it in the least and that Emily was so miserable. *snort*

  13. Yep, your kids look miserable. Just miserable.

I am really craving fall foods. It just needs to get a tiny bit cooler in Vegas for them though. Soup, that’s what I want. And I need to get on my food blog/recipe organization site so I can keep track of all these yummy recipes that I plan on making.
