The Fantastic Fours

A while back when Graham was in swimming, I was chatting with another Mom. Her daughter was the same age as Graham. We were talking about how these children of ours were the textbook “compliant” children when they were younger. Terrible Twos? Didn’t happen.

Honestly.

But now? At age four? Totally different story.

She referred to them as the “f’n fours”. I don’t tend to use that particular “F” word in conversation, so I’ve taken to referring to them as the “Fantastic Fours”.

This is not to say that Graham has become a brat, or a terrible kid. He just isn’t a “yes” man one hundred percent of the time. Some days, he’s not even a yes man ten percent of the time. Sigh.

When I ask him to do something, he has a standard response: “That’s not a good idea”.

He’s added a new response as of late. “I’m sorry. I can’t.

You think you’re sorry now…

Yesterday morning, we all woke up with colds. Awesome. For some reason, this turned Graham into Mr. Encouraging Pants. When I have a cold, I may or may not be referred to as Mrs. Grumpy Pants. He’s apparently a better person than I am in this regard.

He spent all day saying sweet things. He wanted to be at my side ALL DAY and give me uplifting words. He said things like:

“Mommy, you’re so pretty.”

“Good job at brushing your teeth!”

“Don’t forget to wash your elbows!”

“You’re the GREATEST.”

“Good job at peeing on the toilet!”

I’m couldn’t make this stuff up if I tried.

You’d never guess that the day before I was ready to throttle him a little worn out. It sure helps his case that he’s so utterly cute.

Crazy Graham

And a complete nut to boot.

My favourite statement from him yesterday was after I got out of the shower.

“Mommy! You’re SO nice and SHINY!”

*sparkle sparkle*

  1. I wonder what Graham and Kayla would be like playing together…too bad they’re not in preschool together like they SHOULD BE…
    That Graham cracks me up!

  2. I’ve heard that from people. If they don’t get you at two, they get you later.

I wish Makenna would tell me that I was nice and shiny :)

Very cute. How do you argue when he says, “I’m sorry, I can’t!” At least he’s being polite! Have a great day, hope you’re all feeling better. Oh, and hope you keep your elbows clean!

  6. They have to have those redeeming days, or we would all be in straight jackets.

Hope you all feel better soon :-)

  7. Just wait until 5! I must think of a fun “phrase” for 5…one word would never do!
    Take care of your colds!

  9. LOL, we didn’t have “terrible twos” either – and we call them the “ferocious fours” which isn’t entirely accurate, but at least it’s a title! They seem to get better as they near age 5. Hehe.
