The Family Gene Pool

A few of you commented on my last post that Graham looks like me. He really does…and looks like Matthew too. Actually, he looks a lot like Matthew’s Dad.

I did a post back in December about how my Mom and I think that Emily is a “Mini Me“. When Matthew holds her, I can see glimmers of her Daddy in her…but she’s still mostly from my side of the gene pool. Finally!

I had a friend come visit shortly after Emily was born, and she said something that has stuck with me to this day. She said, “Isn’t it cool how even though all of your kids look different, you can tell that they all belong to you?” It’s true. Except for Nathan. We all know that Nathan looks nothing like me. But I was fully aware of my surroundings when he came flying out. I know he’s mine.

I thought it might be fun to post some pictures to see who looks like who. Wanna play?

Here are a couple of the boys when they were around the same age as Emily is now.

Graham:

G7months

Nathan:

N7months

She’s a good mix of the two, don’t you think?

A lot of the ones I have of myself are in one of those old sticky photo albums and they are now permanently stuck to the page. It’s too bad I can’t scan them, because she really looks like me in those ones. Here’s one of me at six months. I have the “deer in the headlight” pose down pat.

Me at 6 months

Here’s one of me a little older than she is now.

Under a year old

Now if that isn’t a seventies couch, I don’t know what is.  And no wonder my kids are bald – I looked like a cue ball!

I’d show one of Matthew at this age, but there aren’t really any. The one I have is one I will not post. When we got married, I vowed to honour and respect my husband. Posting that picture would not do either of those two things. It’s really THAT BAD. But he got cuter! Obviously. Here’s one of him at two years of age:

Here’s me at 3 years of age:

I love looking at old pictures. You can definitely see the family resemblances. Wasn’t that fun?

I think Emily is the spitting image of Graham and Graham looks just like you when you were a little one. But yes- I do see the glimmers of Matthew in there too.

  5. That was fun! I love how even as babies, they have their “look” – I think I could tell who was who even without the labels.

  10. Yes, very cute!!! A good mix of the both of you foresure.

I would find it very strange to have two boys who look so different from each other…I’m still wondering if baby J is not a clone of his big bro!

I love looking at old photo albums too…I think I’ll eventually be the one to inherit them all in our family.

  12. I loooove pictures too!

What is with the 70′s? I take one look at your pictures and think, “Yep, Angella is just about my age!” An assumption totally based on your outfits and the hue of the photographs.
