Taking A Break

Those of you who stalk read me regularly know that every once in awhile I take online teaching contracts.  Then I get all in a frenzy. THERE ARE SO MANY STUDENTS and I CAN’T DO IT and I THINK I MIGHT DIE!!!!!!!

(Wow. That was a lot of exclamation marks (!))

Guess what? That time has rolled around again.

The students are not as many as I normally take on, but the time commitment is still there. I also seem to have a problem that while I am online marking assignments I tend to spend too much time on the Internet occasionally check my email.

In addition to the accounting stuff, I have that new gig over at Work It! Mom. In addition to running Problem Solved and writing at Committed: The Ties That Bond, I am doing some other stuff behind the scenes. I am getting paid for it. It is a part-time job.

I am getting paid to blog! Every blogger’s dream!

(Or maybe just mine.)

(Which is really sad.)

Anyway.

I have found that the Internet is an unlimited expanse of space. I can never keep up, and yet I try. I am that kind of person who wants to try to at least read what is going on in your life. If I have the time, I comment on or Stumble your post.  I want to reply to every comment but it is either that or play with my children.

I feel like I need to hold up the Internet somehow in the little bit of time I give to it every day.

It is impossible. I know that.

It helps to remove yourself completely from it every once in awhile. That is another reason that I am looking forward to this weekend away with my family (When I am not dreading being in the van for six hours with my children. HELP!)

I have a special post in the queue for Friday, and will likely live Twitter the trip, but my surfing time will be non-existent for days. I don’t know why I feel I need to tell you this, but I do.

It really is not you. It’s me.

I need to step away from the computer.  I also need to visit J. Crew for the first (!) time. And will probably be in Target when you are reading this (WOO!)

Here’s to safe travels.

Please pray for us (Especially my children. They will be locked in a confined vehicle with me. And I with them. So, yeah, pray for me too.)

Happy Thanksgiving to my Canadian friends, and Happy Columbus Day to my American friends. Have a great weekend, everyone!

  1. Have a great time!!! And above all, enjoy being offline (I find it so great when I go away and have NO computer, that I dread coming home again, LOL).

  2. Here’s the thing about the four days I spent at my aunt’s house last week, with no cable TV and nothing but a dial-up internet connection which I never used: I crocheted five pumpkin bags and one cat bag during that time! I’m always amazed at what I can fit into a day when I’m not checking my email or feed reader every ten minutes.

Enjoy your time away from the internet, especially your time at Target! I’ll keep you all in my prayers, and will welcome your eyeballs and comments whenever you return.

  3. Wait wait wait wait wait wait.
You’re going to J Crew for the FIRST time?
I would take a break to emotionally prepare for that experience alone. !
Have fun, enjoy your six hours in the car, and don’t try to keep up with the WHOLE internet (although I do understand the temptation, believe me.) And enjoy the heck out of J Crew.

It brings a tear to my eye to think of you seeing J.Crew for the first time.

    SO! EXCITING!

Also, we will be in the SAME STATE! on Friday and Saturday. We’re headed up to Tacoma for Bill’s Alumni Swim Meet at his college.

I’ll miss you but have an awesome time!
I would love to get paid to blog. My blog seems to be where my boring comes out though, and all I seem to be able to post about is HOW MUCH HOMEWORK I HAVE.
Enjoy your break and spending time with your kids and your Honey!

Enjoy your holiday and I venture to guess you won’t even miss the internet. You will be far too busy having fun (or dealing with meltdowns, same difference ;-) )

I am also jealous of the J Crew visit. I’ll live vicariously through you!

  19. Enjoy your trip!!

Yes, this ever-expanding Blogiverse is very hard to keep up with. I’ve really been limiting my time, too, as I want to be more present for my chicks. So I’ve been reading more, commenting less… which I kinda *hate*… but at least I’m up on everyone.

p.s. Even though you’re probably already in your car… I like J.Crew, but I’m typically unimpressed with the selection in their stores. They tend to carry their best stuff online. So… if you feel disappointed in it, you’re not alone!

  20. My break was enormously helpful and I am taking it SLOW getting back into the swing of things. I think you will find stepping back to be a really good thing and we’ll all be here on your return.

    HUGS.

  24. I think it’s insanely smart to take an internet break every so often. I always know when it’s time for me to take a break because I’m tempted to replace my blog with a sign that says “Not here! Might be back! Eventually! BUT DON’T COUNT ON IT.” Hey, looks like I need a break too!

    Have a great weekend!
