Still Kickin’

I have a had a few emails from people wondering if we made it safely to our destination. We did. Our trip was wrought with…nothing. No fright. No terror. A little snow, but nothing to write home (or here) about. I contemplated weaving a tale about our disastrous trip and then telling you I was kidding, but that’s just not nice.

The drive down was boring. We drove for two hours. We stopped for a lunch/pee/stretching legs break. We drove for two more hours. The latter half consisted of the boys watching a new movie (Surf’s Up).

Emily? Slept the entire second half of the trip.

zzzzzzzzz

I even snuck in a half-an-hour snooze. Like I said, BORING. This, however, is one situation where boring is good.

While the drive down was boring, driving down here in the Lower Mainland is anything but.

There are too many cars and too few roads. Too many bridges and too few intelligent drivers.

Matthew and I thought we would “quickly” run into Langley yesterday afternoon in our hunt for homemade knit stockings. We spent two hours in the car, fighting traffic, and cars, and people WHO SHOULD NOT BE DRIVING. Zero stockings found, but we acquired two killer headaches.

We looked on the upside, has we oft try to do.

We had two hours of kid-free time (in addition to our stellar Thursday that I posted about on Flickr).

Thursday

We are also even more certain that life in the sticks is for us. The city is fun to visit (and shop in), but the traffic is enough to make a grown woman cry. Or drink.

The kids have been having a great time. Poor Grandpa has spent many hours with two boys attached to him. Literally.

With Grandpa

And a little girl who thinks he is the shiznit.

We have had a nice visit with my Dad and sister (Which involved driving over one of those stupid bridges. On a Friday. During rush hour. Ten days before Christmas.) We have had some wonderful times and chats with Matthew’s siblings. The kids are running around with their cousins as I write this. It’s been good.

In three hours from now? Christmas present opening begins!

Weather depending, we will be heading home tomorrow. Then maybe I will be brave enough (and have a few free moments) to open up my feed reader. I am resisting the urge to “mark all as read”. I cannot ever bring myself to do it.

I miss you guys.  Have you missed me too?

Merry Christmas!

Sounds like a great time-minus the shopping-travel headache.
Oh, and yay for the boring travels!
Hope the return trip is just as uneventful!

Glad you guys made it safely, I had been thinking about you.
We are always happy to have uneventful trips when traveling between here and Salmon Arm too. We will be heading up there again soon so fingers crossed for a boring trip. :)

Glad the trip was boring, in my opinion those are the best kind!

Hope the trip home is equally boring :-)

Happy to hear that you made it safely without too many exciting moments. Enjoy the holidays with your family and safe travels back home.

I prayed for your safety and I’m glad to hear the trip was “uneventful” in that regard.

I can understand the whole traffic scenario - when we have to drive into Houston for ANYTHING I want to scream, “WHO WOULD WANT TO LIVE HERE ON PURPOSE?!” Though I’m pretty sure there’d be several raised hands.

Oh I can TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY relate to Langley driving!!! I just drove there (in the city, not to the city) in the beginning of November BY MYSELF WITH A SCREAMING BABY IN THE BACK SEAT. Yup, it was rough. One hand on the cell phone getting directions from my brother because I took a couple wrong turns, one hand on the steering wheel, one hand trying to put the soother back into my screaming baby’s mouth, …. I think I ran out of hands. Yes, Langley drivers are horrible. But they’re horrible here too. There’s just a lot more of them down there!

Anyway, another blog in a comment …. Have a Merry (early) Christmas!! I was wonderin where you were too!!! (I know, I know, family trumps blogging … hee hee)

merry christmas!!

I am so sorry that you tried to “quickly” jog to Langley!! The traffic is almost (repeat almost) as bad as downtown Van. The bridges suck and this time of year I actually avoid trips in the car whenever possible. Still wouldn’t trade the bustle of the city, though :)

Of course! (I wanted to see “Surf’s Up.” Did they kiddos like it? (I trust their recommendation.) : )
