Yesterday Emily and I were doing her new favourite awake time activity. She loves to hold onto your hands and pull to sitting up. Then she’ll push with her legs and stand. She’s so advanced, you know.
As we were doing this on the floor Graham came over to see us. I had two thoughts: 1) He’s HUGE! 2) She’s TINY!
I spend so much time up close and personal with her. Playing with her, feeding her, changing her, etc. that I can see how big she’s getting compared to when she was a newborn. She’s in 3-6 month clothes, and some of those are getting short on her. While she’s not as chubby as the boys were (yet), she’s much longer.
I was of the mindset that she was this uber tall baby. Until my monster four year old stood next to her. That’s when I got the great idea that I should take a picture of the three kids together to show the difference. A great plan, in theory.
So, after we had all eaten lunch (Emily included), I went about getting the boys’ somewhat picture worthy. I asked Graham to please take off his Buzz pj’s. He gave me his new favourite response to things he doesn’t want to do:
“That’s not a good idea.”
Oh really? Last I checked this was a monarchy, not a democracy. And to quote Bill Cosby, “I brought you into this world. I can take you back out.”
We got the boys in clothes, and I attempted to get the three of them all looking at the camera at the same time. Nicely. It involved many pleas, threats, and bribes. This is one of the better ones:
Note Emily’s puking. Sweet.
Then we tried standing them up in front of the TV:
Nice hose, Graham.
I’m not tall enough to take an aerial shot with them on the floor, so Honey climbed on a chair and attempted a few. We got ones like this:
I was a little, ahem, frustrated. Matthew was a little, ahem, amused at my frustration. Which, ahem, left me a little more frustrated. But seriously? Three kids age four and under? What drugs was I smoking to think this would go well?
We packed it in. The boys were back to being superheroes in about 2 minutes. We came downstairs to hang out, and they took turns holding Emily like they always like to do. I ran up to grab the camera:
My favourite one of the day. The better things in life always seem to happen when you aren’t trying so hard to make it “perfect”. Lesson learned. At least for today.

I’m sorry, but because I’m not a mom, I found the “That’s not a good idea” response quite amusing! And what blue eyes Emily has!

I totally agree with your quote, “the better things in life always seem to happen when you aren’t trying so hard to make it perfect.” That goes for most everything with small children.

Great shots! They’ll look great in your next Shutterfly album.

I AM a Mom and thought the “that’s not a good idea” hilarious!!
You have a gorgeous little family Angella.

I am laughing out loud – literally! I do the try to make it perfect thing too and it never turns out.
I have got to quit having vodka on the rocks for lunch

The kids are so cute! I’m gonna have to try to remember to try to get a size progression shot too!

The best things are the unplanned ones!

Too funny, Angella! I can only imagine how hard it must be to get 3 kids all looking decent and looking at the camera together … it is hard enough with just 2!! You did pretty well, considering what obstacles you had to deal with

Those are great pics of the kids. Time flies, I can’t believe how big Emily is getting. Happy New year by the way. Sorry for the lack of comments lately, but we were away and busy unpacking all of our stuff. I will be back at the Blogging world by next week on a daily basis. Take care.

That is too funny!! I nearly gave up taking pics of my boys cuz it was so torturous for all of us. Hence, we didn’t even send out a family pic this Christmas. Good on ya for trying, and like you said…sometimes the “moment” just has to happen on its own. We surely can’t force cuteness. I’m slowly learning. Good idea on the height comparisons though.
Oh, you know what might work?? Riley loved it when I’d lay him in the crib beside his baby brother, or if I had them standing by the bars of it. Might work for you for another height comparison sometime…if you dare put all 3 in one cage

We did the same sort of thing tonight, (posing pictures), only Nick was the frustrated one and all the best pics were the unplanned ones! Emily is so big! Isn’t it crazy how much she can do already? I am still in the mindset of Brooklyn just laying there blobish, but she’s not! I need to catch up with here!
