Shades Of Grey

Yesterday was a Grey Day. My mood was…grey. I was not quite “myself”, “feeling off”, “out of sorts”. It felt like something was wrong, though I had no idea what that might be. I was not sad, or grumpy, or mad, or stressed, or even bored. Just…grey. Ever have those days?

The weather was also grey, which exacerbated (or maybe caused?) the grey feeling. We spent a lot of time outside. The boys rode their quads, played in the chicken coop, explored the yard. I put Emily in the backpack and we wandered along behind them. The sky was grey, and the air was almost non-existent. No springtime sounds were heard. No bugs or birds or anything at all, really. It felt eerily still. And heavy. And grey.

I only took pictures in black and white, because that is how the day felt. It seemed appropriate.

The boys:

Her expression is how I felt:

I just like this one. I don’t know why:

After the kids were in bed last night I sat down and made some cards. It felt good to play with pretty paper. It helped to colour in a bit of the grey.

Today feels a lot less grey. This helps:

Blue sky and sunshine. The birds are chirping and there’s a light breeze. While the occasional grey day is O.K., I much prefer it when they are over.

So let the sun shine in
Face it with a grin
Smilers never lose
And frowners never win
So let the sun shine in
Face it with a grin
Open up your heart and let the sun shine in

**Edited to add: I just opened up my email to see an email from SAJ with another banner attached. Check out the Dutch girl rebounding through the flowers. Another day brightener!

  5. I love the new banner, it made me laugh.
Everyone has crappy days like that. I personally seem to have them more than days that seem to be great. You just have to look forward to tommorow being a brighter day.
    Keep Smiling!

  10. Love your photos as always. I want/need a new camera to take lovely pictures like yours, but the one I want is out of reach. isnt it interesting how the weather will sometimes depict our moods? We are so in sync with our environment more than some people think. I love a good sunny day, but I also dont mind quieter, greyer (is that a word?) days.
