As we were driving home from the United States of Great Shopping on Sunday, Matthew and I discussed moving the boys into the same room. Their 2 bedrooms are upstairs next to ours, but we’ve got another monkey arriving soon and he or she needs a room. We decided that since we were already out of our nightly routine due to being away, that Sunday was as good a day as any.
That afternoon, we got to work. We (Matthew) set up our second single bed in Nathan’s room. We have neighbours that have three teenage boys, and as they’ve been growing out of their single beds (nice pine ones that can also be bunk beds), we’ve bought the beds off of them. Bed number two was in our basement, and bed number three is waiting in the wings at their house.
As Matthew assembled the bed, I went to work cleaning out G’s “old” room. I found a few dust bunnies that had escaped my earlier vanquishing, but they were no match for my vacuum and me. I sorted through the boys’ clothes and put them into Rubbermaids (I love Rubbermaids!), based on if they were clothes for next year, or clothes that would be too small for these two next year.
While at IKEA, we found two dressers for the boys, but they were out of stock. I ordered them online, and they should be here soon. We also bought some small wall shelves and pictures for their rooms. Due to all of the chaos with renovating/fire/renovating some more, they had nothing on their walls. When it’s done, I hope to have a more “lived-in” look in there. Hmm…can we say “nesting”? I won’t even bother you with my plans for the baby’s room.
Back to the moving part of the story. We talked to G all afternoon about him moving in with Nathan, but he kept saying that he wanted to stay in his room. I finally told him that we needed his room for the baby. You see, this kid loves babies and is eagerly awaiting ours. He likes to feel the baby move, and talks about it all the time. He was sold on the moving idea.
It has gone amazingly well. I thought there would be tears, or late nights with them not sleeping, etc. Nope. As I close the door, Graham can be heard saying, “Good night, Nathan. See you in the morning.” And that’s when we see them. If I’d known it would go this well, I would have done it awhile ago. Before we know it, they won’t even remember sleeping apart.
I asked these buddies yesterday if I could get a picture of the two of them together. This is what they gave me. Check out Nathan in the background:
The family Christmas photo is going to be a gong show. I just know it.

Glad it went so well
They are going to be best buddies for life!

Graham looks like Gene Simmons from KISS! And I WANT to hear about your plans for the baby’s room.

How can you NOT tell us about the plans for Baby’s D’s room! Nathan looks like a real comedian! I bet they are both really funny kids. But mostly, they look happy.

Glad to hear the move went so well. Is Nathan still in a crib or is he in a bed? We want the boys to share a room eventually .. at the moment Ethan’s room is downstairs (and so is the playroom/spare room) and Tyler’s room is upstairs next to ours. We want his room to become a study one day.
I figured we would wait until Tyler is in a big bed until we move him. We don’t really NEED to move him since we’ve got plenty of room and we’re not having any more kids, but I think learning to share a room is a good thing for kids to do.
Your hassle-free experience has given me hope that it can go smoothly!

Nathan is in a crib…and will be in one until he tries to climb out
