Being content in life does not make for good blog fodder. If there is extraordinarily awesome news such as a pregnancy/birth/puppy it is easy to expound on it. If someone were to, you know, just be happy and content and in the groove of life there is really not much to write about. It is far more entertaining to write about children melting down, smearing their poop on the couch, or generally just being miniature douchebags.
Sometimes, however, all of the stars align (Or someone drugs your children. The jury is out) and you find that not only do you love your kids because you have to, you actually like the little suckers. You realize that you need to document that general feeling of contentment lest you look back on your entries and think your life only consisted of mountains and valleys, with never a rest in between.
This is the place that I have been in for the past little while. Apart from being enamored with my little farts I am just generally loving life. I was driving to work on Monday and was so chipper that I realized I was annoying myself.
This is not to say that my life is perfect or stress-free. The economic downturn that is crippling my friends in the States is being felt up here as well. I have a great job that pays well, yes, but it ends on April 30th. I have signed another teaching contract but I will be working less hours and thus making less cash. Matthew and I are trying to figure out what path to take. Do I go looking for another office job, or does he take up a friend’s offer to work in construction? He would make half that wage that I could (If there was even a job available in my field), but if he works I could be back on “Parenting duty” and be able to fit in the photography and contract writing stuff I want to do.
Decisions, decisions.
Truth be told I am not too stressed about it. Our monthly bills are actually quite minimal; small mortgage payment and no other debt. There is just the usual house/food/life expenses but nothing burdensome. We have a good cushion of savings and are nowhere near being in dire need. We just want to at least tread water, you know? This is totally feasible and a lot more that many others can say right now.
Aside from the money crap I am just phenominally happy. I have a hot husband who is amazing on so many levels. I have three immensely fantastic children who brighten my every day. I have the coolest, funniest friends that you e’er did see. I have a wonderful home, in a fantastic neighborhood, in a spectacular community.
My life is ridiculously awesome.
You might remember that I posted about a particularly bad day a couple of weeks ago that involved an onslaught of snot and tears. That night after dinner the phone rang; it was the local pizza place. They had thrown my number into their anniversary draw the last time I had ordered and I had won four movie passes and dinner for four from their store. Winning a contest is great. Winning a contest that you didn’t even know you were entered in is PRETTY FANTASTIC.
This past weekend we decided to take all three kids to see Monsters vs. Aliens. The last time we attempted a theatre excursion, Emily was a month old, Nathan was 2 and Graham was four. Needless to say, IT DID NOT GO WELL.
Two-and-a-half years later we thought we would try again.
The kids were AMAZING. They boys sat with their little kids’ pack on their laps and didn’t move for the entire movie (apart from a pee break). Emily sat on Daddy’s lap the whole time and didn’t utter a peep. The outing was a perfect success. Well, except for the part where I spilled Diet Coke on my lap and dumped popcorn into my purse. If you know me at all, then you are not surprised in any way by that smooth manoeuvre.
The rest of the weekend was spent outside. Playing soccer in the yard, drawing on the sidewalk, laying on the grass and feeling the sun’s warmth on your skin.
Graham and I have a fresh dusting of freckles on our noses and cheeks thanks to the sun’s rays. I love freckles.
So, yeah. To sum it up I am ridiculously happy, enjoying my ridiculously fantastic life and this ridiculously fabulous weather (Related: I am loving the word ridiculously).
Now that I have blathered on about how ridiculously awesome my life is, Murphy is bound to invoke his law and sucker punch me. Wait for it.

Here’s to more awesome times & creating GREAT memories!

I have a photo of a folk art sign on the side of the road. It says “Husband. Bad. Dog. Okay.”
Obviously, you have had a better experience. The sign still cracks me up, though.

It’s funny how it’s so hard to write about the regular old “gosh, I’m happy” moments, but it’s good to do it to remember it later. I wouldn’t say I’m overjoyed with life right now, but I’m generally happy and enjoying a strange calm which is a good thing.

what an awesome post. I really love the “I’m happy” posts. A lot of times the simplest things make people the happiest and it helps me to re evaluate and put things into perspective.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful family with us again, Angella!

The last time I thought I had nothing to write about because things were going along so well, we ended up in Urgent Care for half the night. I hope you don’t go THERE, and I am more than happy to read about how great and boring things are. Because great and boring is GOOD!

What a wonderful post. And you’re right, we need to spend more time documenting the good times too. This will be a great post to go back and read and remember just how good life is, especially on a day that maybe isn’t so wonderful! ; )

I need to follow your lead and document all the inbetween times – lately I’m either all “YAY! THIS AMAZING THING HAPPENED!” or all “grumble grumble grumble.”
and yes, I realize that this comment makes no sense. sorry. no sleep + coffee boycott = I am incoherent.

This is the perfect post to read today! Here it is supposed to reach 19 degrees!!!! WOOO! Hottest place in Alberta…I think I am going to play tennis or go rollerblading after work…yay for happy sunny days!
[Reply]
Hooray for being ridiculously happy! I felt that way all weekend long, and am still feeling it today. Isn’t it so wonderful??!! I think the sunshine has contributed to that greatly. Yesterday was actually HOT – it was crazily awesome. I wore a t-shirt to work, and then later in the evening I went running outside in just a tank top and shorts. Wow!! It felt almost like summer!
Hoping for many more days like this for all of us!

Isn’t it a bit disturbing how weather can affect our moods and sense of thankfulness? I’ve been feeling super happy since it got sunny and warmer, but then it makes me wonder about my mental fragility if it turns cold again.

I was just thinking yesterday that with all the GOOD things that have been going on in my life, I’ve been at a loss of what to write about! It’s so much easier to focus on the negative, but when the good happens, I glide over it.
I bet the movie was a blast. I look forward to doing that with my kids someday! And score for winning the tickets!
