Reunited And It Feels So Good
Date: Friday July 10, 2009Posted in: Emily, Family, Nathan, me, vacating
Yesterday’s day of travel to come and pick up the kids went reletively smooth. The sun was shining, the roads weren’t filled with campers and motorhomes, I had enough Diet Coke to make me stop every couple of hours for a pit stop. One such pit stop involved another great visit with Mr. Lady, which is always a treat. I’m hoping to switch my flight time in less than two weeks so that we can travel together. Awww, yeah.
My plans for a late lunch with another friend fell through due to a last minute work deadline (Boo) but I’ll see her in two weeks in Chicago (Yay). I jumped at the opportunity to catch an earlier ferry and beelined it to Horseshoe Bay. I figured I could grab a bite to eat once I paid my toll and parked by the ferry. I got there nearly an early, but thanks to an earlier breakdown the lineup was backed up. I was stuck parked up before you pay the toll with not even a vending machine in sight. All I had eaten since breakfast that morning were handfuls and handfuls of cherries from the box I was bringing my family.
For the record, a diet of Diet Coke and cherries is a little hard on the intestines. Just so you know.
Finally, the line started moving and I was parked down below where there was the Good Karma cafe. I’m pretty sure I devoured that veggie wrap in thirty seconds flat. I’m classy like that.
The ferry ride was a short one and before I knew it I was pulling into my StepMom’s driveway. I don’t know how it happened in only four days, but my kids got EVEN CUTER. I didn’t think it were even possible.
They all hugged me with shrieks of, “MOMMY!!!!” and then regaled me with tales from their week at Grandma’s and at Vacation Bible School.
Graham showed me all of the crafts he made.
He is our lego builder/map drawer/future engineer.
Nathan told me about all of the girls in his class.
Are you really surprised?
Emily sang me the songs, complete with actions.
She showed me the dress that Grandma bought her.
And kept running to me and squeezing her arms around my neck as tight as she could.
Sigh.
They were apparently great for Grandma Shona and Auntie Courtney.
(Uncle Chad was out last night)
I thought we should get a shot of the four of us and this is the best we got.
A flower for Mommy.
Nathan is killing me in these photos.
I didn’t expect anything different really.
Now I need to wake up the kids and begin our epic journey home. There will be lunch, there won’t be cherries and I am sure there will be many stops along the way. Wish us safe travels, if you could be so kind.
Have a great weekend, folks. Doing anything interesting?

I’ll apparently be laying on this couch all weekend. Shaking my fist at my kidney stones.
(side note: Emily’s hair is getting SO long!)

That picture of Emily in the little white dress with her foot all turned in is SO CUTE I can hardly stand it!
My Saturday is dull, supposed to rain (and thank goodness, because two straight weeks of it wasn’t enough I’m sure, GAH) and Hayley has a birthday party to attend. But on Sunday a friend is having a party at her house and my husband is playing with his band there. I can’t wait, I haven’t heard him play in ages!

Comment by Mrs. Flinger on July 10th, 2009 @ 8:10 amI totally would have snarfed the cherries. Fruit makes me feel lighter and cleaner. It makes my body sing. They don’t have to be messy if you polish up your spittin’ skills.

What is with cherries and traveling? When we were on our way home from a trip this past weekend, my husband HAD to stop off for cherries. I don’t get it.
