July and August are often referred to as summer vacation. Doesn’t that sound restful? Summer. Mmmm. Vacation. Ahhh.
I, however, have been finding that summer is just a different kind of crazy. With all of the beach time and visitors and BBQ’s and outside time (and, and, and)…there is barely time to do things like the laundry and cleaning the bathrooms (and maybe even play with pretty paper). I feel like there’s a million things to do and no time in the day to do them. Add to the fact that it’s month-end and there is all of the self-employed government stuff to deal with. I’m feeling bizzay.
Then I received an urgent phone call yesterday and now I’m cramming in a bunch of contract work in the next two weeks. Because I have so much free time. I seem to have a penchant for the crazy-busy.
Crazy busy = dead brain cells. So? I will do a random post about our random weekend.
Miss Emily learned a new trick. See for yourself:
It is the exact opposite of “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up”. That, coupled with the fact that her other top middle tooth has almost punched through has made for some early mornings (and a few middle-of-the-night cuddles). My Diet Coke intake has taken a sharp upswing. I should buy shares in the company.
We beached it on Saturday. I thought I’d show you Internets the view from the shore. Hard to take, hey?
Look at my two little fishes.
Graham will only leave the water to eat. The rest of the time? He spends doing this:
Nathan has an equal love for both the water…and his big dump truck.
I have about a thousand pictures of him pushing it around.
Miss Emily is a water baby too (with the help of Daddy or myself):
She likes to splash her brothers.
I took this shot and thought it was kind of cool:
I wish my legs were that long.
I had a great night out with some of the girls on Saturday. There were no pictures taken. I guess we were too busy eating. And talking. And laughing. ‘Twas a good time.
Then? Sunday morning Matthew sat down to eat his breakfast. He looked out the window:
His first thought? We need to tidy the yard. The plastic is drastic. His next thought…what on earth is in our garden (top - left of the tree)?
Those would be COWS. We don’t have cows (surprisingly). So he did what any red-blooded man would do. He got out his gun.
It was a paintball gun. Now cows were harmed in the filming of this post. They are just splattered with blue paint.
Crazy times call for random posts, folks.
Let’s just hope that in the midst of the craziness I can take the time to stop and smell (or kiss!) the flowers.

Thta is so funny. OUr blog photos have a similar theme! It is all about the swimming and the yard right now. I wouldnt ever give up loving on an acreage. We werent chasing cows this morning, it was coyotes again.
Summer does seem like a busy time. Before you know it, you will one day rest and then the cycle of school etc begins.
Comment by kelly on July 31st, 2007 @ 9:20 amLooks nice and warm where you are, but not too hot. I miss getting in a lake that isn’t freezing.
“I am standing and I can’t sit down!!!” I love that time, but hate it as well. It’s kinda like rolling over, but unable to roll back!
Great pics ,as always!
Comment by little miss mel on July 31st, 2007 @ 2:08 pmHey, spotted you and your crew at Powell on Saturday (I think). Weird to see people in real after only seeing them in virtual form. I would have come over to say hi and profess my blog fandom, but you were just leaving. My nine-months-pregnant wife was too shy to say hi when she walked past, but she’s read your blog as well.
Comment by Jeremy on July 31st, 2007 @ 2:37 pmNever a dull moment around your blog, even when you’re spending all your time doing extra work, the excitement just seeks you out! I looked forever trying to figure out what it [the cow] was before I scrolled down to finish reading, I didn’t guess cow, what a strange sight!
Comment by Amanda Franks on July 31st, 2007 @ 5:04 pmLooks like you are having fun with your three fishies! I love the bumper pads in Emily’s crib…When I was little I had a blankie that was made of the same material!
Comment by Michele on July 31st, 2007 @ 6:40 pmSummer is great fun and is CRAZY, it is in our house. But before we know it the snow will be flying…ugggg
Comment by Jazz on August 1st, 2007 @ 8:46 amOK, so at first glance I totally thought your cow was an elephant. Clearly, I need a vacation.
Comment by kerrianne on August 1st, 2007 @ 9:44 ami’m glad, no cows were harmed in the making of this post.

Comment by gorillabuns on August 1st, 2007 @ 1:50 pmLove all the pictures. The one of your shadow is cool.
The whole cow in your yard is funny.
Once summer is over you’ll be ready for the “routine” of fall. I know I always am. ![]()
So very jealous that you have access to water so readily. The beach is 4 hours away from me…sigh. I thought the cow was a buffalo, I think I need my eyes checked!
Comment by Filtering Life on August 1st, 2007 @ 5:21 pmI was just telling Andrew over dinner… “My blog friend in Canada, OMG, she lives in the most amazing place. There’s this lake, called The Okanagan. They live there, and it’s so gorgeous! The weather is like Vegas, but it’s on the eastern side of BC!” Or something like that. And now you’re chasing cows off your property? Outstanding!
That’s why blogging is cool. My eyes are opened to great people who live in cool places that I want to visit someday!
(I’m rereading this comment. Yes, it’s apparent. I’ve had too much wine. Sorry for sounding like a drunk sorority girl… must not drink and comment. Please don’t take my Power of Schmooze away! ;))
Comment by LVGurl on August 1st, 2007 @ 9:28 pmLovely photos of your gorgeous locale … love the summer pics, it give me hope that we will have summer too (eventually)!

For a second there I thought it was a moose in your yard. Yikes! The cows must have thought the grass was greener in your yard that day.
