No, I’m not starting a hip-hop career. I’m retaining water.
I usually weigh myself first thing in the morning. Not every day (I’m not that crazy), but I like to step on the scale before I’ve filled my belly with food.
I did so yesterday morning, with no change to worry about.
Then last night, as I was getting ready for bed, I stepped on the scale again. Why? I’m not sure. In the past when I’ve done so, it might be up a pound or so.
It was up FIVE POUNDS!
I whined to Honey about it.
Me: How on EARTH did I gain five pounds in ONE DAY ?!? Especially since it’s too hot to eat anything beyond three tiny meals!
Him: (Poking my leg) I think you ARE retaining a bit of water - your ankles look a little puffy.
Me: Well, that makes sense.
Him: Turn around…what’s on the back of your leg?
We look closely. Oh, GREAT. Another big spider vein cluster. I’m seriously going to pot.
The old wives’ tales say that if Mommy isn’t looking too great, then it’s likely a girl I’m carrying, because girls “steal” their Mom’s beauty.
At the rate I’m falling apart, this is going to be one BEAUTIFUL child, whether girl or boy.

I feel for you. I’m retaining water and I’m not pregnant. lol It’s the heat, I’m sure. I remember what that was like. I had my oldest (now 17) in September and I still remember the heat and the cold baths, etc. yuck.
I like the comment about the old wives tale. I definitely looked worse with my girls, but I’m not sure if that was just because I’d had two babies already and my body was screaming “Uncle!”
Comment by Bren on June 28th, 2006 @ 1:00 pmMy weight regularly fluctuates five pounds. That’s why I don’t pay much attention to the scale…
Comment by Leah on June 28th, 2006 @ 1:45 pmOk…this morning, I weighed myself before and after the gym, just for kicks…I lost 4 pounds…in HALF AN HOUR! By the time I go to bed tonight, I’ll probably be up 5. Seriously, I don’t think that you have anything to worry about. Plus, in case you didn’t know, YOU’RE PREGNANT! Be happy that you’re creating a healthy little baby, and you won’t be as big as you were with Graham
Can’t wait to see you all!
Give yourself a slap on your wrist girlie!! You look beautiful. That baby hasn’t taken a thing from you! Only made you look more lovely than evah! Truly. You glow. You glow girl!
Comment by christy on June 28th, 2006 @ 6:21 pmLOL I remember being told that I was DEFINITELY having a girl because she had “taken all my beauty” - and that was from a friend! You really do look gorgeous though, so I wouldn’t be worried about veins or water retention. If you’re seriously getting a bit puffy though it might be a sign that you need to put your feet up and take it a little easy. Take care of yourself!
Comment by Robyn on June 28th, 2006 @ 7:51 pmYou and Baby D (boy or girl) are beautiful!
I agree there are some parts of pregnancy that just plain stink! Try to focus on the kicks - THOSE I miss:)
Comment by Kami on June 29th, 2006 @ 7:00 amOh man…no comment (j/k). You oughta be relieved now that’s over. You wished to just “pee” all the water out huh? uh oh. (blushes, embarrassed) It’s amazing the miracle of life takes place inside a woman’s womb and her body is centered on a growing baby, she may as well eat more and retain more water in herself (and yeah, the random peeing). Did you take water pills to get rid of the problem?+
Comment by Michael on October 25th, 2006 @ 9:41 pmWhat else to comment (not meant to be judgmental): You were a canvas with the blue veins, purple blotches or red spots all over your beige-peach colored body! Something for artists to draw you, the real thing. How artistic a pregnant woman can be. Cuteness comes in different ways, I guess. +

I didn’t know that Old Wives Tale, it’s a gooder! Isn’t retaining water soooo funny, yesterday one of my feet was swollen about 4 times it’s normal size I couldn’t even put on flip flops! Yikes. One thing about the water that is good is it feels like you lost soooooo much more weight without trying after the baby comes!
