The actual scenario is that I’m posting by “generator” (there are candles as well), but it did not sound as poetic.
(I am writing this Monday night, but am setting it to post on Tuesday (Apparently I am taking NaBloPoMo very seriously), so that’s the background of the context in which I am writing.)
Remember how I mentioned that we had a short power outage on Saturday AND I WAS COMPLETELY FRUSTRATED BY THE FACT THAT MY HUSBAND HAD HIS CELL PHONE WITH HIM BUT IT WAS NOT TURNED ON? After Matthew and the boys arrived back home and I told him the saga of how I went from frustrated, to angry, to thinking they had all perished we headed to the next town over to look at power generators.
They were not cheap.
We decided that we would look on eBay and see what was available.
Cue today (Monday. TWO DAYS later). The craziest windstorm that BC has seen in a long time decided to rear its ugly head. I have heard stories of pergolas clearing five-foot fences, of trees landing on cars. I have actually seen trees that have been broken in half. Others I saw have been completely UPROOTED. Just laying there, privates exposed.
Needless to say, our power is out. The estimates for power restoration are for November 14th. THAT WOULD BE WEDNESDAY. Since we had no power, and no TV or Internet to entertain us nothing else to do, we headed over to K-town to see what kind of deals we could find on a generator. We scored!
So? We have power to have the necessities. It is keeping our fridge running, we have a big lamp lit, and we can use the microwave. Oh yeah, and power the Internet.
You know, the necessities.
I hope that by the time you read this that they have surprised us by restoring the power early. We can totally rough it, especially since I make my morning oatmeal in the microwave. But tomorrow (today) is a school day. Electricity makes for a much smoother morning thanks to Treehouse TV. I know. I’m not complaining. Just appreciating the fact that power makes life smoother.
In the meantime, we will take the opportunity to just relax once the kids are in bed.
The radio announcer made a joke about the fact that there will likely be a baby boom nine months from now.
(wink, wink, nudge, nudge)
But not in this household. I can assure you of that fact. It is no longer medically possible.
This does not mean that we cannot have some “quality time” together. (Honey is cringing if he is reading this).
We are fine over here, just (mostly) powerless. Kind of fitting for a Monday.
Anyone know a good microwave recipe?

A generator is a beautiful thing. I live in a behemoth house that is over 150 years old. No wiring for generators here. But, I have solace for you. If you can bear to microwave bacon, then the other ingredients are raw. Just google recipe for broccoli salad.
Oh, wait. I’m drooling now.

Ahh, sweet, sweet generator! I hope and pray that the power comes back on VERY soon!

Nothing like a lack of electricity to bring on the canoodling!

it was pretty bad up here to. A branch fell on the van and added another scratch down the side (just another thingadded to the lisit of why a new vehicle is in orer). OUr cable was out for a while and our fences (2 of them) got knocked over. Yuck for wind.

Aw, power outage…I would definitely use it as an opportunity for a little sumpin’-sumpin’!

I’d nap … for a loooooooooong time.
Wine…yummy.
Is that backlit by a microwave or stove? Either way, cracking up!

Like I said over on flickr, that picture is one of my favorites. So, silver lining?

Oh wow. No, I’m sorry, I don’t know any good microwave recipes … except for Kraft Dinner Easy-Mac – which is actually quite good. In my opinion anyway.
That’s a sweet picture!!!

The wind missed us, hope your power is on as you read this.

Sounds like quite the adventure!!! I can’t believe the wind we’ve had here too! I’ve got my fingers crossed that as I’m writing this, your power has come back on!
[Reply]
I think we are getting some of your wind, it’s crazy here. I wouldn’t be surprised if trees are uprooted when this is done.
Yay for the generator! Especially the internet part
[Reply]
Can’t live without my daily dutchblitz dose. Yay generator!

A generator is a great idea … I think we need to get one! After the last big storm + power cut fried my hard drive, it would seem quite “necessary”. I hope your power comes on soon! And that you had *FUN* last night!
[Reply]
Power failures are fun, until the food in the fridge starts to go bad…
[Reply]
yes crazy winds, here, too.. though not as bad as elsewhere.
I kind of like not using the lights, sometimes… though when it’s for a real reason, the ambiance wears off.

I loved the power outage we got here in the east two summers ago. I could actually see the stars, amazing. It was the lack of food choices that got to me and after day two I was dying for something to eat that was hot. I hope you get your power back soon.

If it means losing power to have a nice romantic candlelight evening, it’s worth it! HOpe you enjoyed your evening with honey. We ended up getting that windstorm lastnight/today with gusting up to 90 km/hr- that’s what kept me awake for 2 hours last night…and being 7 1/2 months pregnant!

I love when the power goes out. It almost always ends up being a fun, cozy evening.

Thank goodness for power to the fridge! Everything else I can cope with but the panic of watching food spoil. (Do you have a gas bbq? they come in handy during power outages).

Does your microwave have decorative flowers etched into the window? Wow. That’s a classy way to nuke your food!

There was a huge baby boom after the huge power outage in the east in 2003. 9 months later our 2nd son was born too
HOpe all is up and running now!
