My Weekend, Part 1: What Sucks

My Mom always hated the term “That Sucks”. She also hated the term “Shut your hole”. I tried to tell her that “Shut up” was so passe and that “Shut your pie-hole” was an even better term than the plain “Shut your hole”.

She didn’t buy it.

This weekend has not been all bad, but there has been some crapola that has happened to yours truly. Until I vent? NO REST FOR THE WEARY. That would be me, in case you were wondering.

Let us make a list, shall we? For lists? DO NOT SUCK.

1. I have work deadlines. On a WEEKEND. Yes, I knew this when signing up for it, and yes, I get paid well (VERY well), but it is still the weekend. Yo.

2. Last night, after Honey had spent all day running Daddy Daycare, I thought that I should take a break from said work, relieve him of his duty (Heh. I said duty.) and hang out with my spawn. After eleventy billion under-ducks on the swings, I suggested that we walk down to check the mail. I strapped Emily and Nathan into the double stroller. Graham wanted to stand on the back. I thought, “Hey! Good work out for me!”

Unfortunately, I did not think, “Hey! A total of 130 pounds of kids on a steep incline MIGHT BE A BAD IDEA. It also MIGHT LEAD TO A BACKWARDS TUMBLE.”

They survived completely unscathed. I went down with the ship in a blaze of glory, and landed squarely on the palm of my hand. It is not sprained, but it is a nice shade of black and blue. I am seriously the clumsiest person I know. Who else falls UP a flight of stairs and gives herself a black eye? While eight months pregnant? THAT WOULD BE ME.

So back to the hand. It hurts. A lot. Which is an issue (See point #1).

3. We went to a parade today. The bulk of the adventure was fun, except for point #5 (It’s coming). The other part was that on the drive home? The transmission in our van decided IT WAS TIME TO DIE. It is a slow death, but it is also inevitable.

Transmissions? NOT CHEAP. Good thing I have a vault full of dollar bills that I keep for occasions such as these. It is a lot of fun to swim in all of those greenbacks.

Ha!

*sob*

And also? See point #1. Guess I won’t be retiring anytime soon.

4. Tomorrow there is a family potluck at our church. I suggested that we buy a meat tray from the deli. Honey balked at the price and suggested that “we” make a lasagna instead.

I gave him a grocery list while I worked this afternoon (See point #1), and when he got to the till he realized that the ingredients cost MORE than the meat tray would have. But we would be making TWO lasagnas! One for our freezer! This was still a good idea!

I spent a good HOUR AND A HALF tonight making said lasagna. When I could have been working (see point #1). I was also dealing with a sore hand (see point #2). Alternatively, I could have maybe been focusing on the GOOD of today and editing parade (see point #3) photos.

He is beyond sorry for his bad call, and I forgive him. But? I have still lost NINETY MINUTES OF MY LIFE to lasagna. Which I don’t even eat, because pasta makes me fat.

5. As for the parade? Fun! Even tough it is June and COLDER THAN MARCH.

Suck it.

In addition to that, we were accosted with clowns.

FREAKY

Clowns freak me out. They are scary beyond all reason.

(There were even creepier ones that got closer than that one, but I may or may not have been hiding behind my children a tree.)

While growing up, my sister collected clowns as well as porcelain masks. We shared a room. TRY GOING TO SLEEP IN A ROOM FULL OF CLOWNS AND MASKS.

I am scarred for life.

Enough of the ranting. I promise that the next post will be about the GOOD. Hopefully. Unless I do something brilliant like break my leg or blow up my house in the meantime.

Here’s a sampling of the brighter side.

Miss Emily

The Dudes

Peace out.

  1. Yay FIRST!
I’m sorry about your injured hand. You and Meggie can start a club. I will have to try your lasagna for you. Can’t have you slaving for so long and not have it benefit someone. At least your babies were alright. I too very much dislike clowns. Not afraid per say but more so greatly irritated. People just aren’t supposed to act like that. For realz!

  4. Do you have any arnica for that bruise? Yikes! There would be no lasagna making with injuries at my house. Not when meat trays are cheaper.

Hopefully a better week is ahead!

I have been complaining about our unseasonably cool weather and I was rewarded with a 100+ degree (F) day yesterday (and today). Ack. (And it appears our a/c is not working…) Those kids in their jackets look awesome to me!

Hope the hand heals quickly. Moms were not meant to be one-handed!

Awww!!! For the most part, sounds like a crappy weekend! Hopefully this week is a little easier on you! The pics are great, except the one of the clown…Don’t like them either! Did the dudes get haircuts?

  21. Your use of “yo” made me smile… :)

Sucks. My mom hates that word too. Unfortunately it is a crucial part of my verbage… I try to avoid using it when I talk with her. Instead using words such as disastrous, and rots, and bites, and stinks. Not quite as satisfying, but less offensive to her.

I’m gonna go shine my halo now…. HA!

  24. Oh noes! You poor thing!

The thought of making 2 lasagnas just made me start sweating. But that is only because it was 90 here this weekend and I have no air conditioning and the thought of adding oven heat to the already furnace-like heat in my house makes me want to cry! But sounds so tasty!

Hope you have a wonderful week! And take care of the hand/wrist!

Thanks for the lazagna recepie! I rarely cook, but that looks so incredibly tasty (and I am a whore for a good lazagna), so I might just have to try it.

I also must echo the hate for clowns. Seriously, they are the freakiest things EVER! I shudder every time I see them or they are mentioned. I don’t understand how some kids can like them. It’s beyond my comprehension.
