My Two Year Blogiversary

Date: Monday July 16, 2007
Posted in: Blogging

Today marks two years to the day that I have been spewing verbal diarrhea onto the Internet. I know my archives don’t seem that long, but here’s the quick version.

I started with a blogspot blog, which had my last name in the title. I got a little spooked about creepy Internets after reading a few horror stories, so I switched platforms and got my own domain. I knew I could import my previous site, but thought there was too much incriminating evidence. So? I did what any intelligent woman idiot would do; I deleted my old blog. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Especially since everyone already knew my last name and where I lived. Duh. I have a hard copy in a binder, and backups in Word, but not an importable back-up. I could copy them in one-by-one, but I DON’T HAVE THE TIME.

For now? I just inserted my original post into my one-year post. Click here to read it.

Not much has changed. I still distribute propaganda about my kids. I still have hot friends. And I still drink copious amounts of Diet Coke. At least I’m consistent.

One thing that fascinates me about this whole blogosphere is my stat counter. I’m not as obsessive as I used to be. Again, NO TIME. The thing about the stats that intrigues me the most is how people get here. I love to see the Google searches that make people click here.

“Moody grumpy labour pregnancy”

Um, yeah. Read my archives from January 2006 (Oh yeah. Deleted. Start in June then.) to October 2006, and that should about cover that topic. Here’s one classic example.

Dutch man who is a dork

Let’s get this straight. I am the dork. Honey rocks.

“tall n lucky”

That would be Kristin, who I met last month. See Kristin? You are missed. Come back!

“Squirting sound in my head”

Hmm…I don’t remember that post.

“itchy bum in preschooler”

Apparently I’m not up to snuff on my wiping technique.

“Floppy boobs”

I have nursed three babies. ‘Nuf said.

In addition to the Google searches, I often wonder how else people ended up here. Are they a friend of a friend? Did they see one of the million comments I have left and come to see who left that lame one? Did they come here looking for a card game but were intrigued by the fact that I can consume so much Diet Coke and live to tell about it? Or do they come here to see pictures/hear stories of my stunning (and brilliant!) kidlets?

Just Keep Swimming

Trucking Along

Whazzup?

All three of them woke up with fluorescent green eye boogers today. Awesome.

So. It’s been two years, folks, and I’d like to celebrate. I would like to ask each and every one of you (including you regulars!) the question that I wonder every time someone stops by. I don’t ask blatant questions too often, so be a sweetie and humour me. It won’t cost you a thing…just a moment of your time.

If you won’t do it for me then do it for my three kidlets.

How did you end up here?

I feel very creepy now that I am outing myself but……..I stumbled across the blog ‘Untangling Knots’ and then to ‘Kicky Boots’ and from there to ‘Heigh Five’ and ta-da…that is how I found you. I have been reading all of the above blogs plus one more, Amalah.com since November. I enjoy your commentary so much. I have no children as of yet but I have a 2 year old niece who is as good as mine and she even calls me mum-mum; so I can relate to alot of your stories. My older sister lives across the street from me and she tends to have zero coping skills and so I tend to take-over when the going gets rough (teething, asthama, bloody noses…you name it).

I have to say that I do all of the above reading on ‘company time’. You get me through the day. I stare at a computer screen for 8.5 hrs a day and without your blog as a refresher, I would be one cranky girl.

And no….I don’t have my own blog. I’m too busy enjoying your writing.

In closing………….
My name is Sarah and I hail from Nova Scotia.
I have a problem.
I am a blog-reader-aholic.

This is my very first de-lurk….ever!

Happy Blogiversary!!

I think I found you… hmmmm… maybe commenting at Whoorl. Or KickyBoots. Somewhere. I popped over and was intrigued by the three kidlet factor and good writing. I kept coming back.

Comment by LVGurl on July 16th, 2007 @ 11:25 am

I came here through Christy. And I keep coming back for your photography. And since Christy has all but given up. (but yet so have I)

Comment by becky on July 16th, 2007 @ 11:25 am

I came through Jen and Amanda’s sites and kept coming back because you’re so friendly and you comment on my blog!!

Comment by Amanda Franks on July 16th, 2007 @ 11:39 am

Hi Angella,

Originally I came here through Christy but your kindness & enthralling writing & pics have kept me coming back!

Comment by April on July 16th, 2007 @ 11:42 am

Well, Christy introduced me to the whole blog business with their original blog (or was is Dustin). I’ve been here since reading about the super-sickness that your family had those two years ago. Love ya and I’ll come back daily…

Comment by Elizabeth on July 16th, 2007 @ 11:49 am

Hi Angella,

I think that I originally came to you by way of Kickyboots? I can’t remember now. However, I have been a loyal reader ever since-I just don’t usually comment.

I come for the fun-ness of it all. I know that isn’t a word :)

Comment by Jessica on July 16th, 2007 @ 12:12 pm

Weird, Graham was so little and Nathan was the chubby one back then. SOOOOO cute. Look, I’ve brought our worlds together with all my old buddies. Aren’t you glad to have me as a friend? JK!
Love ya.
PS. Can we come over later?

Comment by christy on July 16th, 2007 @ 12:30 pm

I founds you through Sarah D, and keep coming back because you are entertaining and your kids are fun to hear about and see in pictures. And you give me great comments. :)

Comment by Kristin on July 16th, 2007 @ 1:16 pm

I found you via littlemissmel.com

Comment by Cndy on July 16th, 2007 @ 1:32 pm

Angella, I keep coming back regularly to read about you and your family- you keep me smiling, amused and often laughing and those kids of yours are so darn cute! I found you through my friend who was linked to Amanda and then you! I also just recently found out that you went to Briercrest with my friend Vivian! Small world!

Comment by Angela on July 16th, 2007 @ 1:33 pm

Hi Angella!

I’m a bit of a hesitant delurker, but I stumbled across you though Hannah’s blog and I keep coming back because you really appeal to me. It’s kind of strange to be so emotionally involved in complete strangers’ lives, but I work alone at home and feel the need to live vicariously!

Keep up the blogging - its fantastic and funny and heartwarming.

Comment by Juliette on July 16th, 2007 @ 1:35 pm

Happy 2 Year Blogiversary!!

I stumbled onto your blog through others a long while ago and became addicted :)

Have a great day!

Amber

Comment by Amber on July 16th, 2007 @ 1:45 pm

Hi Angella:

A lurker from Manitoba. I came across your blog via “Amen, Let’s Eat!”, via Jen’s blog, via kickyboots…
I appreciate your writing - especially how you convey your devotion to your family and to God.

Comment by Claudette on July 16th, 2007 @ 1:52 pm

2 years is a long time! I keep considering hitting the delete button myself, but haven’t been ready to “auf” myself just yet. Maybe I will reconsider.

I recently found you by way of LVGurl. :)

Comment by 180/360 on July 16th, 2007 @ 2:07 pm

I either found you through Amanda or you found me through her. We should send her a fruit basket or something, shouldn’t we?

(That pic of Nathan is superb!)

Comment by Leah on July 16th, 2007 @ 3:04 pm

I love fruit baskets! Just make sure there’s some chocolate-covered strawberries in there. :)
Happy blogo-versary, Ange. I got here when you said, “Hey, I started a blog. Come check it out.” So I did. And still do. Every day. Because you rock!
Yay, blogging.
I will be sleeping with my fingers and toes crossed tonight. :)

Comment by Amanda on July 16th, 2007 @ 3:17 pm

Hip Hip Hooray!!! 2 Years WOW!!!
I can’t remember how I got here, I think it has something to do with jumping around blogs…. I love your blog and I really really appreciate you ALWAYS saying hi on mine!
PS-kids cute as ever!!!

Comment by Melanie on July 16th, 2007 @ 4:04 pm

Through my nephews wife Mel your Sister. I check in through the week to see what you have written. It is sort of like looking in on the columnist you like in the paper. Only more like home we had two boys and a girl all over 18 now it reminds me of our not so distant past.

Comment by Anne Marie on July 16th, 2007 @ 4:04 pm

Happy Blogaversary!!
You know what, I can’t actually remember how we met!! Did I find your blog, or did you find mine? I think you found mine. Through Lisa? Or was it somebody else? I don’t know, but I will say that I am SO glad we “found each other” because you’re a wonderful friend. Love ya!

Comment by Hannah on July 16th, 2007 @ 4:11 pm

Hmmm… How did I get here??? I think I read my sister’s blog, which linked me to a friend of hers, which linked me to kickyboots, which linked me here! Four steps to Dutch Blitz, not too bad!

Comment by Carla on July 16th, 2007 @ 4:47 pm

I have been reading blogs for about a year. I can’t really remember how I started but I came by way of Stephanie’s to Amanda’s to yours. Yours is a daily read. You are very witty and I love your writing. Happy Anniversary!

Comment by Mandy on July 16th, 2007 @ 5:07 pm

Ha! Good question but I think you already know how I found my way here ;-) And the reason I keep coming back is that you ROCK!

Can’t wait to see you in person again - Vancouver is only 8 months away!

Comment by Kami on July 16th, 2007 @ 5:10 pm

I made it here through Stephanie’s blog :) I now love reading your blog and check it most days!

Keep up the great blogging!

Comment by Tracy on July 16th, 2007 @ 6:03 pm

classic surfing the links from blog to blog.
i dont’ think i acutally remember the lineage from me to you.
but i like your site,
and even if i’m in a skimming kind of mood
the pictures of your kids never disapoint.
cheers!
ps: a few weeks ago i was walking somewhere in my city, and passed a lady who struck me as looking like you. then upon reading your blog found out that you were acutally in vancouver, and thought ‘well, it coulda been her!’

Comment by julie on July 16th, 2007 @ 6:47 pm

Wow, I read the first couple responses and then figured I’d better write mine before I forget what I’m doing. I found your blog via Jennifer Dykstra’s who I found via Teresa’s blog who is my sister-in-law. There’s always a connection somewhere!

I keep reading because I like the verbal diarrhea that flows from your blog and your kids are CUTIES and you’re a former northern BC-er so you rock!

Comment by Jen on July 16th, 2007 @ 6:51 pm

Funny thing is I’ve been reading you so long, I have NO IDEA how I found you! I’m just so happy I did!! We have a similar family dynamic and I love to read about yours…in that witty Canadian style :)

Comment by Lisa on July 16th, 2007 @ 7:09 pm

Happy 2nd Blogiversary! As you know, I came here through a friend of a friend of a friend…! The kids were (and still are) so cute, they were so little! Love Emily’s bathing suit and the expression!

P.S. I’ll be clicking in my sleep! Good luck!

Comment by Michele on July 16th, 2007 @ 10:01 pm

Hi Angella
I think I started to read your blog after reading your name through Janine Langdon-Lee’s blog - I had some time so I surfed a little and ta-dah….I got a-reading!!!!
Congrats
Mandy

Comment by Mandy on July 16th, 2007 @ 11:46 pm

I stumbled onto your site through my friend Elizabeth’s blog about a year ago and have been lurking ever since. I thought you might like to hear that even though my life is about as far removed from your life as possible (I’m living the single life in Vancouver) I truly enjoy reading about your life in “the sticks”. Your blog is sincere, honest and, possibly most appealing to me, self-depricatingly funny. Of course your absolutely adorable children always make the trip a pleasure as well!

Comment by Alayne on July 17th, 2007 @ 12:06 am

Angella, I can’t believe I am the first person to mention this connection: Secret Agent Josephine! I’ve been reading your comments there for a long time, and I had probably clicked through to your blog before, but I think I became a semi-regular visitor after you won her banner contest, and then a regular reader after you entered the Scrapblog contest for Blogher07. Happy 2nd blogiversary!

Comment by Bethany Actually on July 17th, 2007 @ 6:47 am

Oh hey, where did the brain cells go when I need to remember how I got here…ummm, I want to say you were mentioned as a Thinking Blogger on one of the other sites I read (red stapler maybe?). Dunno, but I’m glad I did! Happy two years and remember…no more deleting!

Comment by ie on July 17th, 2007 @ 8:07 am

I found your site through Jennifer’s blog.

Happy Blogiversary!

Comment by Teresa on July 17th, 2007 @ 10:12 am

Well? Any news yet?

Comment by Michele on July 17th, 2007 @ 12:58 pm

I clicked over here from Hannah’s schmoozy award post :o)

Comment by Kelly on July 17th, 2007 @ 1:40 pm

I came here via yourself!!! One Xmas newsletter mentioned it….(the old site I think), I thought about it, put it off, then started updating myself on the “Mommy Angella” quite regularly about a year and a half ago!!!

Well done!

Comment by Lee on July 17th, 2007 @ 3:16 pm

green boogers = no sleep - bummer!

Comment by Heidi on July 18th, 2007 @ 9:02 pm

I found you just a few days ago through megfowler.com, and have spent oh so many hours yesterday and today reading everything. I’ve loved reading about your family, and seeing the beautiful pictures of your kids. I’ll definitely be a regular reader from now on. :)

I will delurk (I hate that word–it makes me sound like a creep) to say that I know Christy & Dustin and I found you through their site and have kept reading. I love your posts and your adorable little kids.

Comment by Leah on July 20th, 2007 @ 8:19 am

Hmmm how did I get here??? I think I was reading Shalane (Kaili’s sisters blog), then started reading Kaili’s and eventually found yours through hers and realized “hey our kids go to preschool together.”
I still read your blog (when I find time). And I love to check out your beautiful photo’s of your cute kids.

Comment by Kacie on July 20th, 2007 @ 10:18 am

52 comments and not a boy in the bunch! Oh well.

I’ve got an ongoing Google Alert that sends anything mentioning “Summerland BC” to my inbox, and one day your blog was the alert. Normally, I’d scan-’n-delete, but this one kept me reading — good photos, funny writing…and local. It’s great.

Comment by Jeremy on July 24th, 2007 @ 10:47 am

I found you through Sarah D. when I was blog surfing off her’s. I love your blog!

Comment by Faith on July 26th, 2007 @ 9:17 am

Um, I followed a link from Josephine (you know, the super spy?) who I just found on a link from…er… Fussy?

I’m on vacation, I need new things to read! ; )
