Someone looking across the landscape of my site for the past few posts might come to the conclusion that I’m in a bit of a melancholy, contemplative funk right about now. They would be right. This past week I have been all out of sorts and besides myself and insert other applicable term here. It’s not as though I spend my days moping around while dressed head-to-toe in black (As she types while realizing that she is indeed wearing black pants and a black top). Just rest assured that I’m not going to get all Emo on everyone anytime soon (or ever).
Clap! Clap! Time to change the tone up in this piece! Is there any other way to do so, apart from some Friday bullets? I think not.
1. In addition to making some of the greatest friends that a girl could hope for, this little space has given me some pretty sweet opportunities, including two part-time gigs at a couple of really great sites. I am not one of those bloggers who gets free stuff thrown at her on a daily basis or is sponsored by big companies to go on fancy retreats. I’m not sure if it’s because I’m Canadian or if it’s because I’m just not cool enough (Not really looking for an answer there, just so you know.) I honestly haven’t cared much about it all; that’s not why I started this site four years ago and it’s not why I keep spewing words onto the (virtual) page. However. Last week I was asked if I would be interested in receiving a (customized) Flip Mino HD video camera to try out and review. HOW DO YOU SAY NO TO THAT? You don’t. It shipped yesterday and this is what it will look like:
The cover is this photo, which hangs on our living room wall.
That sound you hear? It’s me, squeeing.
2. My friend Karen over at Chookooloonks wrote a post that inspired me. Karen is always inspiring, but her post yesterday about putting love goals and journaling together really struck a chord with me. I already keep a spiral notebook around to jot down tasks and short-term goals but I’ve been challenged to kick it up a notch. This kind of ties in with something a good friend said to me that I’ve been spinning on (and which deserves a post of its own):
Just get out of your own way and go get it.
3. Last weekend was rainy and dreary (That really helped my mood) so I took the kids to the video store and we ended up renting Enchanted. We watched it as a family and…I liked it. A lot. The kids have been watching it daily and once we return it I’m pretty sure that I’ll have to buy a copy. Or, you know, just keep listening to the soundtrack that I downloaded to my iPod. Judge me if you will, but watching Emily in the rear view mirror while she belts out, “That’s how you know…(Key change)(Increased singing volume) THAT’S HOW YOU KNOOOOOOOW…HE’S YOUR LOOOOOOOOVE” makes the purchase worth every penny. I’ll catch her on video once I get my new piece of gear (See point #1.)
4. Thursday marked Nathan’s first meeting with his Kindergarten teacher. We went for an hour and he had his “orientation.” He goes solo for two hours next Tuesday and then starts attending on alternating full days. I had requested the Tuesday/Thursday class so that his school days would coincide with Emily’s preschool days and I could have those two mornings of freedom. Not only did I get the days I requested, he has the teacher I was hoping for. (Hi Anita!)
*Fist pump*
5. There is a phrase that Emily says many times a day which will probably annoy me to no end at one point but right now? It brings me no end of glee.
“Oopsie! Sorry ’bout that!”
6. We’ve got some cool stuff happening this weekend and I want to tell you about it but I also don’t want to ruin the surprise. It involves a skit done by my husband which includes classic tunes such as Chariots of Fire, More Than A Feeling, Kung Fu Fighting and…Under The Sea. There will be video. You can be sure of that.
7. Speaking of video, I will leave you with Pregnant Women Are Smug.
Yes, I posted it in my side blog last week, but some people (Hi Mom!) never look over there. Enjoy.
I know I’m being vague about my own weekend, but what do you have going on?

OK. I am extremely excited about forthcoming video footage of Miss Emily singing “Enchanted” songs and Matthew’s skit!! Don’t make me wait too long, alright?
Have a great weekend! I am looking forward to a quiet(er) one. I’m hosting a baby shower for a friend on Sunday, but other than that, no real plans. Which is NICE!

We won’t be able to be involved this weekend – but I sure look forward to hearing about it (watching the video especially). But really the reason I’m commenting is to let you know I’m thinking of you and I hope that your fun weekend puts an end to the funk.

Love the customized Flip… LOVE IT…just wish they weren’t $300. but I still LOVE THEM.

I played that video when you put it up on your sideblog, and Noah was in the room when it was playing. He spent the rest of the day humming it and then breaking out in, “preeeeeeeegnant women are smug”. Highlight to my day. Love the video.
Yay about Nathan’s Kindergarten! That’s awesome. And Emily’s little phrase? I LOVE two-(almost-three!)-year-old speak. Liliana’s favorite is, “Sank you! Y’er welcome.” Love it.
A friend of mine has that flip thinger, it looks pretty cool! So, are you going to write about it and then give one away? TO A CANADIAN? Yes, yes you are. And that Canadian is me.

We loooove Enchanted. We own it and it gets watched frequently. Very frequently.

I can’t WAIT to see the video!
This weekend I’m celebrating my upcoming birthday! (It’s Monday!) I am going to the spa with a few friends tomorrow afternoon, dinner with family and then to the German-American Fest in my old neighborhood, where we plan to stand around and drink steins of beer!
GOOD TIMES!

Looking forward to watching the skit.
I ordered a refurbished Flip – it was awesome and fun. Until I played back the downloaded videos and they were FUBAR. So I had to return it. I do think I’d like another one tho because it was really easy and fun.
Anyway, the weather is supposed to be really nice this weekend so there will be much outside housework. Rewaterproofing the fence, cleaning the gutters, washing the furnace filter. Actually I like doing that stuff, especially when its nice out.
I haven’t thought you were being a downer. Just talking about life. and stuff.
I like this post, thanks.

I have nothing going on. Nothing at all. And I love it.
Except Sunday when Brenda and Bug are arriving for a short, craft-filled, meeting-a-new-local-blogger visit! Yay!
Also, I meant to thank you before for posting the link to that video. I think I’ve watched all their music videos now, and they are hilarious. But my favorite one is a rather sweet song, called Silver Lining. What you said about getting out of your own way and going to get it actually made me think of it.

I watched that video last time you posted it and just so you know, and I blame this all on you…
I was editing a belly photo shoot last night and this song played in my head THE WHOLE TIME.
I feel horrible!!!!!
Hope you’re feeling better soon… we’re having more sunshine out here on the coast and I’ve been dropping all my usual stuff, (work, gym) to soak it up before the clouds roll in and I feel like hibernating til spring.

That video is hilarious! Thanks for sharing.
Yay for kindergarten working out so well!
Not much going on this weekend, just running a relay race, it’ll be fun oh and my mommy is coming. Yay!

Besides pedicures with two lovely ladies (Rhi! and Kali!), I have A Whole Lot of Nothing planned, which will of course translate to A Lot of Reading & Some Writing & Probably Some Dusting, Too.
And I hear you about The Funk. I’ve been in it myself, and am very much looking forward to getting myself out of it soon and very soon.

I was gifted a flip not to long ago as well and we love it. I keep doing interviews with the kids and then we watch them on the telly. They’re hysterical.

To hell with what I’ve got going on this weekend (nothing, studying, more nothing), as a fellow photographer I must ask you HOW IN H DO YOU GET GIFTED SOMETHING LIKE THIS?? Sweet mother of Jesus. What am I doing wrong?!
Please do tell me how you like it. It looks pretty cool, but I always give the side-eye to stuff like this.

We had great friends over last night. We had a fire outside and watched the kids play charades for us while we drank some beers. It was great! Tonight, we’re going to their house!
Here’s to no more funky funks! (Said as much for myself as it was for you.)
