My Girl

I hope my post about the fire did not come across the wrong way. I was not trying to bring anyone down or blow it out of proportion. Yes, it was scary, but we were/are all fine. I am not one to go to that place where I dwell on the bad things that could have happened. Because they didn’t happen. I choose to look at the positive side of these situations and use them to teach me to be thankful in all things.

Onwards! There is other news around here! Good news!

(No, I’m not pregnant. Not only has that ship sailed; we fired a torpedo and blew it to smithereens.)

Miss Emily is feeling much better today. What’s that? I haven’t told you she was sick? Let me backtrack then.

Emily came down with a really high fever on Sunday afternoon. She went for a nap after lunch, and instead of doing her usual stint of two to three hours, she woke up crying after only thirty minutes. She was also burning up.

She has been a little *ahem* needy. And miserable. And not knowing her head from her hiney.

She cried for me to put her down. She cried for me to pick her up. She cried because she was hungry. She cried because she was full. I think she has cried more in the past few days then she has in her entire little life.

Poor baby girl.

There also was not a lot of sleeping going on for those two nights. I lost track of how many times we were up with her.

Poor us.

Last night, however, she did her usual eleven hours or so. Yay! She is also more like her normal happy self today (less crying, more chattering) and her fever is gone. I think she is on the mend.  She’s chipper, not feverish, and I am so happy she’s not uncomfortable anymore.

I have not taken any photos in the last few days. I find it impossible to balance a large baby on one hip and try to point/zoom/focus/shoot with one hand. Besides, she was looking sickly.  We don’t need to document that; I know that I don’t want my picture taken when I’m sick.

Instead, I’ll leave you with a photo of me at that age.

How about this? Pretend that that couch is the one we have on our deck. Imagine that I am wearing some of the cute Joe brand clothing I bought Emily on our girls’ night out. I bought a few more things last week. And yesterday (when Matthew sent me into town to use my gift certificate for a pedicure…and I made a stop to “pick up a few things”).

I can’t stop buying her cute clothes! It’s a good thing they’re so inexpensive.

OK. Imagine a non-seventies couch and some stylish clothes.
Me!

Squint your eyes and tilt your head to the side.  Can you see the resemblance?

  1. Glad she’s feeling better! And you were one cute little girl :-) who grew into a beautiful lady!

  2. Definitely a resemblance to you, and Graham!

Hooray for cute girl clothes! Though I’d say that the ensemble you’re sporting in the picture above is pretty tame by mid-70′s standards. The drapes and the couch…? not so much ;)

(seriously, what were people thinking back then?)

  6. So glad Emily is feeling better. It’s so difficult to see your children sick and not make them better. I hate that feeling…

  9. Ok, two things…..
#1 It sucks when babies are sick. All you want to do is take the pain away and see them smile again. It really makes me sad when Kynan gets ill too. Glad that she is doing better though.
#2 I LOVE the new Joe brand. Have already added a few to my collection and YES it is CHEAP. $4 for a long sleeved onsie. $6 for the most adorable shoes….. like I said… I LOVE it.

  10. I’m so glad Miss Emily is feeling better. She is so adorable. Plus it’s always a bummer when babies are sick because they just can’t explain what’s wrong.

Love the picture of you. I should scan in my 70′s baby pics from my parent’s home someday. It would be nice to have those.

  11. I didn’t take the time to comment yesterday because I got interrupted or we had to go somewhere or something, but I just wanted to say that what I got out of that post (the rehashing of the fire two years ago) was the overwhelming gratutide you felt for God’s grace and protection that night! No downers here; I thought it was very uplifting, actually.

And (1)Miss Emily TOTALLY looks like you as a baby. (2) I think I had my picture taken on that same couch at that age.

  12. Dude. Did everyone in the WORLD have parents who owned the same freaking couch in the 70′s?????

I saw the resemblance to you the first time I saw your blog. Gorgeous mom, gorgeous baby!

(There is nothing worse than a sick wee one. :( So glad she’s better! :) )

  13. Poor Emily! Glad she is feeling better.
I think you look more like Nathan (or I should say Nathan looks more like you) in that picture. You know I think we had that same couch although the cushions were the same fabric as the green not brown :)
