My Day So Far

I woke up at 7:00 and nursed Emily while Matthew fed the boys breakfast.

I fed myself breakfast (mmm…oatmeal and a latte) and went upstairs to somewhat pull myself together while the kids played downstairs.

Got the boys and Emily dressed for the day with Matthew’s help.

Out the door at 8:45 with Nathan and Graham to take G to Playschool. Left Emily with Daddy as she would be going down for a nap at 9:00.

Dropped Graham off at Playschool and had Nathan start to cry because he wanted to stay. It happens every. single. time.

Drove home with Nathan and got in about 9:20. Got him set up playing PBS Kids on my office desktop and I wandered upstairs to get a glass of water. Quickly checked my email and then woke Emily up early as she had her 4-month checkup today.

Headed back into town with Emily for her 10:00 appointment. She’s perfect, of course. The doctor said that she’s actually a bit advanced in her development, what with all of her chattering and rolling everywhere. I forgot to ask her length (Bad Mommy!), but she’s 14 pounds 8 ounces. She’s still 95th percentile for height and 50th for weight. Tall and “skinny” (but she still has rolls). The doctor said that if Emily stays in the 95th percentile for height she’d end up about 6 feet tall. Awesome. I can live vicariously through her.

Packed Emily back up and got home around 11. Put her down for another nap, and loaded Nathan back into the truck. We swung through A&W to pick up lunch for him and Graham, then picked Graham up at Playschool at 11:30. Drove into P-dot and did a Wal-Mart trip.

Got back home at 1:30.

Emily is still sleeping, but should wake up soon.

To recap, it’s not even 2 pm and I’ve driven about 5 BILLION kilometres today. Well, maybe not that many, but it feels like all I’ve done is drive for the last 5 hours. Is it any wonder I’m so behind in my blog roll?

I cannot fathom what it will be like when all three kids are in school and other activities. We may need to hire a chauffeur. Maybe by then we’ll have robots who can drive our flying cars for us. A girl can dream.

If only I could survive on one hour of sleep per day. Then maybe I’d have time to get more done. Maybe. Again, a girl can dream.

  1. I know what you mean – seen those mini-vans with Mom’s taxi on them? That’s us!

    It’s all good though :-)

How do moms do it with more than three kids???
Hats off to them. Four would put me in the looney bin at this point in time.

There is a lot of driving involved isn’t there? I never realized how many places I drive until now. One vehicle which Nick has at work all day time hours. I do so much walking!! I’ll start daydreaming about moving sidewalks and you can wish for flying cars.

  4. I guess it just comes with the job! But you are very lucky to have Matthew home so you can leave Emily there when she is napping. Imagine if you had to do all that ferrying with her in the car as well, skipping her naps and getting overtired?? Having your hubby home HAS to make life a lot easier for you!

  5. I KNOW I have it good :) I give kudos to moms who have to do it alone during the day. I don’t think I could do it.

I’m sure when the kids get older BOTH Matthew and I will be driving them everywhere :)

  6. I cannot stand days like that. And they seem to happen too often! And I only have 1.

  7. Yikes that is a lot of driving. I find days like that so frustrating….I seem to be busy all day but accomplish nothing…grrr.
Does Graham’s preschool only go for 3 hrs? Is that the norm in Canada? Bec’s was 9 – 3, and she always wanted to stay for the extended hours that were offered too (although we didn’t take that option).

  8. Yes. Preschool is 9-11:30 (age 4 by December 31). Next year when he starts Kindergarten at the public school(age 5 by December 31) He’ll go 9-3 for 2 days one week and 3 days the next. It’s not until grade 1 that they go full time 5 days a week :)
