At the end of the year it is (apparently) expected that you will do one of Those Posts.  You know the ones. A Year In Review.  A look back at the year that has come and gone in the blink of an eye, and try to capture all that it was.

I thought that instead of posting photos by month, I should maybe just post some of my favorite photos.  Such as these:

No More

As I started to go through my (many) folders of photos….I was just not feeling it.  This is not to knock those of you who can pull of those end of the year photo posts with ease.  I just find that trying to post where there is no inspiration is similar to that of trying to get milk out of these breasts of mine.  They are all dried up, yo.

I thought maybe I should let the year-end pass.  I do not have to post.  I could pretend like it is any other day.

However.

There is something about a whole new year.  I am not one to make New Year resolutions. Again, not to knock those who do.  I have just never participated, and choose to make resolutions throughout the year as the need arises. The start of a new year, I think, is a great time to reflect at where you have come from, and where you are going.

This past year has been my best one yet.  I have a husband that loves me more with each passing year, and children who just get neater and cooler as the days go buy.

I have reconnected with friends who I thought were lost forever, I have grown closer to friends in my circle of girls, I have made some new friendships that I think will stand the test of time.

I shot my first (and second and third) wedding and had more fun than I ever imagined.  I also realized that I do not want to do photography full-time, lest it lose my love for it. I am beyond happy to keep it as a once-in-awhile endeavor.

I have been given some amazing opportunities. I love my little corner of the Internet, and the fact that I get to do this elsewhere is very fulfilling for me.

I managed to fit exercise back into my life and, most days, am pretty comfortable in my own skin.  It took me thirty-three years, so it’s about dang time.

As I look forward to 2009 I have this feeling that it is going to be better.  I do not say this in a prideful or arrogant way. I just feel like I am where I am supposed to be, doing what I am meant to be doing, walking down the path of my life in the right direction.

I am happy. I am content.  I am also striving to grow. To be stronger, wiser, better.

How about you? What is this New Year sparking in you? I really, truly would love to hear it.

Happy New Year, folks!

I have a question for you. It’s totally unrelated to this post – it’s photography related. And I have a Nikon, not a Canon….bah!

Anyway – 2008′s been good to me too (on the internet). And I met you – I mean shit, could it get any better?

I find the Year In Review posts one of the hardest to write. I don’t know why. I guess because it is in the past and no need to go back and dwell on anything. (Also, I think all the wine is killing all my remembering brain cells.) Not that there weren’t things that were so exciting for me (like meeting you!) I was actually proud of myself when I wrote my end of the year post last night because all I could think of was the positive things. Not the losing my job thing. Which, yay me!

I am looking forward to 2009. I’m planning to buy a condo, and that is really exciting (and equally SCARY). I want to start running again. My best friend is having her baby any day, and that is something to look forward too. I know it is going to be a good year!

    Happy New Year!

    1. I LOVE your photos. Love them.
    2. I hate (writing, not reading) year-in-review posts. Booooring.
    3. I can totally relate to the not wanting to do photography as a full-time thing. SO MUCH WORK! Much more fun as a hobby/side job.
    4. This new year is sparkling in me a need to manage my time better. I am HORRIBLE at it. (Noah being the King Of Time Management doesn’t help.) But, I posted about it, so I won’t ramble about it here.
    5. I’m so glad you had a great year, and I hope that 2009 is your best yet ;)

I don’t think I’ve ever written a year in review post before this year. I might have, but I can’t remember. Anyway, I got my inspiration from another blog that I read, so I can’t take full credit, but it was easy enough to do, and felt like a good summary of the year.

I’m not one to make New Year’s resolutions either, but I do feel like 2009 is going to be another fantastic year. I hope I continue to keep getting healthier and more in shape.

Hope you have a fun party tonight! Happy New Year!

Lovely post and probably because it wasn’t a text book year in review post, different is good! I am glad 2008 was so great for you, and wish you nothing but the best for 2009 too :-)

And I do hope to see you in the flesh in 2009 too! Cross our fingers!

I gave up on the recap post. My heart wasn’t in it. I am, however, very close to writing out my intention for the next year. It’s on the tip of my tongue. I’m hoping 2009 affords me opportunities to continue to grow and that I can finally figure out how to prioritize myself.

    Happy new year!

This is so funny, because before I read this post I had just tweeted: Realizing it never dawned on me to do a “year in review” post (though I am loving all of yours), but am instead eagerly looking ahead.

I really am looking ahead, and am so excited for 2009. If I had done a 2008 highlight reel, our trip to Canada and the awesome time we spent with you and your family, and the time we got to spend with Amanda & Steve, would have been at the top of that highlight reel. I’m so thankful for friendships forged and fostered this year, and have no doubt 2009 is going to be doubly amazing.

I’m not a big resolution-maker, either. However, I just had a big wake-up when I realized that I haven’t printed a single photo since the arrival of my Nikon. I’m going to change that.

As much as I don’t really do the “resolution” thing at the beginning of the year, I do look forward to the fresh start that January brings. Happy New Year!!! Hope this year brings wonderful things to you and your family!

    Hi there Angella,
I’m taking the opportunity to say hello finally… don’t know how I stumbled across you but I live in Vancouver so we’re practically neighbours in the internet-world-sense. This morning I learned that my husband does not have cancer, a fear we’ve been living with since he found a lump in his neck in September and had it removed just before Christmas. So the end-of-year thing has struck a chord with me… I resolve to try not to worry about the little things that do not matter.

And I love this group of b&w shots… I am a full-time photographer and loving it, while consciously avoiding things that could cause me to tire of it!

Happy 2009… it’s gonna be fabulous year.
