Keeping My Cool

Yesterday marked the end of my two-month “I might go crazy” work contract.  The students wrote their exam which means that there are no more students’ emails to respond to, no more assignments to grade, to more reports to write.  I AM DONE WORKING!

(Well, except for the wedding photos I need to edit and an exam I am going to author, but the time crunch has significantly decreased.)

I celebrated yesterday by (mostly) staying off of the Internet.  The kids and I spent the morning at a friend’s house, during which I managed to sneak away by myself for an hour-long power-shop.  I am behind on my BlogHer preparedness shopping, but yesterday put a HUGE dent in my shopping list.  And also my credit card.

It is a good thing I stayed off of the Internet, or you would be reading a HUGE rant about the gong show that occurred between leaving my friend’s house and arriving back home.  What is usually a thirty-minute trip took ALMOST TWO HOURS, thanks to a string of events created by my children.  We got home and I gave myself a time-out relaxed a little.

The weather has turned HOT, so we filled up the kiddie pool.  Daddy (true genius he is) thought to pull the jungle gym over so that the kids could slide into the pool.  When I wasn’t playing “lifeguard” (sitting in a lawn chair and reading a magazine), I took a few photos.  68, to be exact, but I’ll only post a few of them.

Graham

(See the gash on his forehead?  Nathan threw a rock at his head the day before.  A ROCK.  Lest you think Nathan is one of THOSE kids, it turns out Graham asked him to throw it.  According to Graham, “He picked a bigger rock than I wanted him to”.  WHO ASKS TO BE HIT BY A ROCK?  Boys.  They make no sense.)

Back to the water slide.

Going…

Going...

Going…

Going...

Gone!

Gone!

Nathan was having fun too.

Nathan

He wants to be a surfer when he grows up, and I think he’s on the right track with all of his waves.

Waves!

He was having way too much fun.

Splash!

As for Miss Emily, she was busy being a hoser.

Hoser

She took her job very seriously.

Water!

Serious

(My kids wear SPF 50, in case you were worried.  I also slather it all over Emily’s head since she will have nothing to do with hats.)

I played a bit with shutter speeds.

Blur!

(1/30 sec, f/11, ISO 100, for those who care.)

Blur!

We plan on doing more of the same for the rest of the weekend.  The forecast is for 38C/100F.  HOT.  Have I mentioned that we don’t have AC?  And that my bedroom is on the top floor of the house?  It is AWESOME.

I also plan on editing wedding photos and preparing for our Second Annual Canada Day Barbecue.  The weekend, it will be amazing (Except for when I melt into a pile of goo).  What about yours?

Stay cool, folks.

I am so jealous–is everybody on the planet going to BlogHer except me?

And, by the way, I think my son is one of “those” boys. At the very least, he enjoys a good rock-throwing. Sigh.

SO much fun! We used to do that with our pool and slide too, it’s great fun.

It’s beautiful here, around 25- 26… perfect for us. 38 is UGH in my books. Have a great day at the beach!

The slide into the pool looks so fabulous!

It’s almost 30 degrees outside right now, so I’ve been alternating between reading my monster of a book outside on my towel in the back yard, then coming back into the cool of the house (I live in the nice cool basement) for a bit to drink loads of water and cool down a bit. It’s been glorious!

I’m going to a BBQ and fireworks tonight, and have several more BBQ’s/parties/fireworks coming up. I don’t have to go back to work until Wednesday, so I’m definitely going to be outside as much as possible!

Canada Day? What’s that?

Ok, so I’m going to enjoy this weather some more, play with my nephew, hit the farmer’s market, and do some shopping. Shoes aren’t on the list, but I have to say that I have NO idea what I’ll be bringing yet. Should I be worried about that?

I’ve been hit in the head with a brick and I must say, it was no picnic. and no, I didn’t ask for it.

I’ll never understand the mind of little men, I mean boys.

Those water pictures are AMAZING! Looks like a great thing to do on a day like today! I, thankfully, have air conditioning…I don’t know how I’d survive without it! Hope your BBQ goes well!

We are avoiding our crowded beach this long weekend in favour of the boat! Heaven!
And a Canada Day fun triathlon on Tuesday… ugh.
Regardless, it’s turning into one helluva great Canada Day extra-long weekend! And bring on this heat… it’s been one crappy-long winter/spring!

Looks like fun! I am hiding out in the house by the portable AC unit. I just wanted to let you know that we won’t be able to make it at all to the BBQ. We have a full day of family stuff with his Grandparents’ Anniversary and my Aunt & Uncle visiting from Santa Monica. Hopefully I’ll see you soon!

You don’t EVER have AC or you don’t currently have it? Either way, I totally feel for you. I’m hot when it’s above 73 in our house.

Also, those pictures are fantastic.

Great pictures. I LOVE that last one! And the one with your son’s feet in the air. Looks like you’ve found the best way to stay cool!
