It’s The Girls’ Turn

The boys have had colds for over a week. They are now almost Boog-free.

Emily and I woke up yesterday with the sniffles. Mine has turned into a full-blown head cold. As of this afternoon, it’s in my sinuses and it hurt so badly I almost started crying. The only thing that kept me from crying was the knowledge that blubbering would make it so much worse that my head would likely explode. Boom!

She’s still happy even with the sniffles. I hope hers doesn’t get any worse.

Late this afternoon, I had a bout of the "re-runs". Sweet. Made me think of this commercial. I sure hope I’m better by Saturday. Amanda has organized a night out with The Girls in honour of my birthday, and I don’t plan on missing it.

I’m limited with what I can take, what with Miss Emily relying on me for nourishment.

Any good non-drug tips out there for both my cold symptoms and, uh, my other problem?

  1. I can’t believe I am the first person to comment. I sure hope you get better soon, so you can go a have some fun on Saturday night. It sure sucks you can’t take anything. I remember being so sick and not being able to take anything. Take care of yourself.

  3. Oh no! Sounds like you could have a sinus infection, but you should be able to take antibiotics without it affecting Emily. You should ask your Doctor. As for the “other” problem … drink LOTS of water. That’s the only advice I can really give!

I hope you are better in time for your birthday celebration. I didn’t realise it was your birthday soon – when?

    BTW, love the new template!

  4. Saline nose spray will help with the booger-ectomy and help to keep your nasal passages moist. Chicken soup is also a wonderful thing – a nice, hot bowl of it provides electrolytes and fluid, and the steam helps to moisten the nose and throat. Not sure how that meshes with the runs, though. If you can stomach it, fat-containing foods slow down transit through the GI tract. Make sure you’re drinking plenty of fluids too – for your sake and for Emily’s! Feel better!

  5. How about some belladonna? Seems to be the perfect poison. :)

If your nose is stuffed, make sure you have the humidifier in your room so it doesn’t turn into a cough! That’s always my first preventative measure. Hylands has cold tablets too. I’ve bought them but have never tried them. We also swear by spicy foods to clear the nasal passages. As for the bowels, take acidophilus and eat yogurt and bananas. :)

  7. Take care, eat Pepto.

  8. Yes, bananas will help with the “other problem.” I’ve never really liked them myself, but it works for that when I need it to. Get better soon!

  9. Cute new look :)
You guys seem to have had more than your fair share of illness, even accounting for Winter.
For sinuses, you already have humidifiers right? My only other suggestion is warm steamy showers. If it doesn’t get better pdq I’d be seeing a Dr. Sinusitis is NOT fun.
As for the other, all I can suggest is keeping hydrated and giving your system a break if you aren’t already. Avoid sugar and stick with bland, simple foods. While you are actually still having problems try the BRAT diet (banana, rice, apple, toast) – its pretty safe. I hope you and Miss Emily are both better soon.

  11. I just got over a similiar cold – Tylenol can help with the sinus pain. That’s what I took while pregnant with Kamden – I had about 7 colds in 9 months – it was awsome.

Get better so you can have a great time on Sat!

  12. Youngest Rogall and I have started with sniffles as well. Lauren actually has a cough as well. If you figure out what to take, let me know because I can slowly feel my sinuses starting to tighten. Hope you feel better soon. Is TODAY your birthday?

I have much experience in fighting off the digestive distress and I would reccomend putting yourself on the brat diet for a few days. (Bananas, rice, applesauce and toast) Most likely your tummy is better, it just isn’t ready for heavy/spicy/”regular” food just yet. Hope you are feeling a 100 percent by Saturday!

  15. I second the chicken noodle soup and two plain Tylenol, that’s what helped me out. Hope you feel better soon.

  17. Ok, I’m a loser.

The way I just said that made it sound like there’s going to be some craziness on Saturday, and as far as I know there won’t be.

I think I just mean ready for some good appies on Saturday.

    Ok, I’ll stop talking now.

I would recommend the brats diet anyday mostly for the stomach and bowels but still gives baby nutrition and lots of water. I have found it works for the kids as well it is easier on the system. Anyway I wanted to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY, my birthday is in a couple of weeks as well. Get well soon.

  19. I feel your pain. Literally. I think i have what you have. I’ve been taking ibuprophen, it takes away the massive swelling of my lymph nodes. Only I feel VERY drowsy. I wanna take a nap. I wish my hubby were here.

  20. Hey! Yogurt is good, and fiber fiber fiber! Exercise usually helps when I have a cold, you know, get the blood flowing, drink water, and it usually gets out of my system faster. On another note, Christy, I just learned what all the lymph nodes in your head and neck are called! Yay for nursing.
