It’s amazing to me how past conversations can come up when you are in a similar situation in the future.
Shortly after Graham was born, I was talking on the phone with my stepmom. I was telling her how gross I felt. Leaking down below; boobs spraying milk everywhere. Baby is pooping all the time, occasionally spitting up, or just letting milk drool out of their mouth.
She said something that rings true today:
“Motherhood is damp.”
Amen, sista.

We’re doing well over here. She’s eating well, sleeping well, and I’m feeling good (no stitches this time). I’ve got my “supermodel chest” in full force. You know – full of milk, perfectly round, and perkier than they have ever been. Too bad my body isn’t in the same supermodel shape.
I’m actually feeling pretty good about my 4-day postpartum body. My uterus still has some shrinking to do, but I was able to wear a pair of pre-pregnancy pants to church today. Not my skinny pants, obviously, but a pair of cords that were not full of elastic everywhere. My gut may be sticking out, but I don’t care. I just pushed out a baby after all.
Emily was looking great too. I tried to get a picture of her all dressed up, but as I didn’t want to wake her, the “no-flash” pictures are less than clear. Here’s a cute one of her sleeping:
She’s been giving us some awake time, where we get to see those eyes that the doctor called “crystal blue.” They’re still pretty dark, but they’re definitely blue. I am very interested to see what shade they’ll be.
I’m also reminded of how fast babies change. It’s only been four days, but she’s changed so much. She still has that newborn “alien” look to her, but before we know it she will look nothing like she does right now. I’m savouring every minute. Holding her, stroking her soft baby head with soft baby hair, kissing her all. day. long.
Sigh. I’m in love all over again.

You are way too supermommish to be friends with the likes of me. You picked up Graham from playschool the DAY AFTER pushing out a baby, you came out to girls’ night, you were at church…you are a powerhouse! And now, blogging so frequently already? You are nuts! In a good way, of couse. You look great and Emily is a gem.

Emily is absolutly precious, I wish I could have met her at girls night, but we were driving home from the coast.
Keep the awesome pictures comin’!!!

I remember getting back into prepreggo clothes… it’s one of the many wonderful things about having a baby

Man, she looks so much like you Angella!!! It is amazing. She’s a beauty
Well done you, getting back into pre-pg pants already! I think I took a few months, LOL!
And your stepmom is SO right about the dampness. Oh yessiree.

I’m surprised at how much you have managed to write with a tiny baby in your house. But it’s good. Keep it coming.
Again, I’m so happy for you! Yay!!

We’re totally in the same place here! Except for the pre-pregnancy pants, maybe next week. I went to church today and the only uncomfy part was trying to stay in my clothes instead of ‘busting out’ literally! It’s so great!!

So glad to hear everything is going so good! Maybe it gets easier with the number of times you go through it(at least that’s what I’m hoping for!)
She really has changed…that last pic her eyes are SO wide open and she seems so alert!

She is just so cute Angella!
Hooray for prepregnancy clothes!
LOL, the commercials that make motherhood look so romantic don’t mention the dampness!

Hey Angella!
I thought you looked great as usual yesterday at church, & that round little soon-to-be-gone tummy looks like many a womans’ here-to-stay tummy that sports around.
Emily is precious. I am enjoying my new status of grandmotherhood through Avelyn. Can’t get enough of that sweet baby – the smell, the soft downy hair, the grin, yep, brings back memories of my own sweet ones! But now I can really spoil this one!
Congrats again to your whole clan – you done good!

First of all, I am so impressed with how often you have been able to blog since Emily’s birth. You have blogged more than me and I don’t have a newborn at home…. we have a name for you people and we call you “Supermom”. Emily is so beautiful, I can’t wait to hug and kiss her. Sorry I missed you on Friday and Sunday, I was feeling less then great and decided to avoid human contact for the weekend. Other than Saturday, when we toddled up to Keremeos to see my cousin, but even then the return trip was less then admirable. Can’t wait to see you, maybe tomorrow for Tumble Time!

I LOVE that comment…your stepmom is a wise, wise woman.

She’s beautiful!!
Seems we will be writing that comment back and forth for awhile now! And it’s true they do make lots of girl stuff as opposed to boy things so you wont have any problems with the dresses and tights! Yes so true damp is a good expression esp since I have a pukey baby lol.

How should I say this? You gone out with an…Alien??? LoL (no offense). it’s your husbands, but that “alien” look got my attention. I’m certain she’s gonna be a smart baby and on her way to be Miss Einstein with her big head. Does she got “spock ears”? Yep…she’s geneticaly engineered with vulcan DNA (or it’s from your side came from Mars). Ok enough, dont wanna share you. No “race” baiting here (I happen to have American Indian on Mom’s side) or I won’t make fun of “grey” people..LoL. Time to go bye.

no matter how damp, it’s still beautiful, and don’t let others judge you. I would pick a woman with a bit of “baby fat” over the “anorexic” model in any day. It never matter to me how women look in terms of weight. Anyway, take it up to your husband on this as it’s not my business. I know he loves you the way you are
and the 3 kids love their mommy even you ain’t Madonna or Angelina Jolie, but who cares? +
