It’s All About Meme

I am chuckling to myself over that title as once of my favourite quotes is, “It’s not about you”. Hence, it is all about me(me).

In boring blog news:

  • They are going to drag out the results of the Canadian Blog Awards over the next seven days. So? I am singing to myself. Have patience, have patience…
  • A few of you told me you wanted me to edit photos for you…and I have not received them. Tomorrow is Friday…

*After I hit “publish” on this post, my site DISAPPEARED FOR TWO HOURS.

I MAY HAVE PEED A LITTLE.

*Ahem*

Next up: Meme

The last time I did a meme (too lazy to look for the link) I had some people comment that they were not sure what a meme was. Basically is something that someone tags you with (or you tag yourself with) and everybody gets to learn more about you. Or me, as we are on my site.

I have done my share of memes since I started blogging (many of which you can find on my About Me page). I generally feel I am a bit memed-out. I think I have shared way too much enough about myself already. Then there is the tagging part of the meme. I never know who likes to be tagged and who does not. The people pleaser in me does not want to make people uncomfortable. She also does not want to make anyone who is not tagged feel left out. Sigh.

This is why after Hannah tagged me last week with the Excellence Award

Excellent

I did not do anything about it.

Oh, yeah. I am excellent, alright. Maybe Hannah should redo her choice.

I think that anybody who suffers through reads my site deserves the award. Consider yourselves all branded Excellent. Feel free to use the graphic. You earned it.

Ali over at Cheaper Than Therapy tagged me yesterday with a meme to write six quirky things about my kids (two things each). This one I can do because it’s not about me (Like the tie-in?)

Here goes!

First we have Graham.

Goofy Graham

Oh, Graham. If you have met this little monkey in person, you know that he could have a whole series of posts detailing his quirkiness. Seriously. But I’ll limit it to two.

  • Ever since he was about three months old, if something made him happy or excited, he would clench his fists and vibrate. I even brought it up with the doctor, who assured me that he was fine. Just a little excitable. He still is. I fear that one day something will be so overwhelmingly awesome that he will literally explode. KABOOM!
  • He eats the exact same thing for lunch every. single. day. Peanut butter and honey sandwich (just honey on school days) with the crusts intact even though he will not eat them; two (not one, not three) pieces of cheese; four (not three, not five) strawberries; and a cookie.

Then we have Nathan.

Nutty Nathan

This kid is hilarious. I do not know if he is quirky, so much as…spacey.

  • If you ask him ANY question (Including “what is your name?”) he starts his answer with, “uuuuuuuhhhhhh”. Dude. YOUR NAME IS NATHAN.
  • He will ask me the same question over and over and over. I will give him the same answer over and over and over. Then I will turn the tables and ask the question back to him. The standard response? Shrugged shoulders and a solid, “I don’t know”. I don’t think he is lying, either.

And then we have Miss Emily.

Emily

She is absolutely nuts and she is not even a year and a half old yet. And no, she did not get into the sauce before I took that photo.

  • If there is any kind of music, beat, rhythm, she starts to sway and dance. She dances to any kind of jungle that comes on the TV. In order to really get her booty shaking, she has a specific preference. Justin Timberlake. Followed closely by Timbaland. We’re keeping in wholesome over here. If I put another artist on the Ipod she will point at it and say “more” and “dance” until I play one of her favourites.
  • She also does the excited vibrating-thingy that Graham does. One day…KABOOM!

They really are two peas in a pod.Brother and Sister

Here comes the awkward tagging part. Seeing as Ali changed the rules to the meme when she did hers, I am going to take the same liberty.

I know you and yours must be quirkier than me and mine. Why don’t you just tell me something quirky about your kid(s) or yourself?

(If you want to get in on the photo editing party, there is still time. Just let me know.)

  1. I had to laugh at the pictures of your kids…hilariously cute. Unfortunately I do not have any kids yet….(and yes I want them…bad…not like crazy bad…just bad) My boyfriend has yet to get the diamonds out to pop the question first. I thought that I would tell you something quirky about myself…I could write for days…I am a bit of a whack-job sometimes. I will narrow it down to one thing… when I brush my teeth I REFUSE to touch the actual toothpaste container. I have to goober out the toothpaste so that I can do the dairy queen swirl without my brush touching the tube. Unfortunately that creates another problem…a disgusting gooberfied toothpaste tube. yuck. I can’t win!

  5. Love the pics to go along with their quirks, they are perfect for what you talked about.
I also think this line “I do not know if he is quirky, so much as…spacey.” is totally funny!

  6. Your kids crack me up. That picture of Emily made me laugh out loud! She’s too cute.
Hmmmm. I’ll have think…a quirky thing that Eli does…he’s only 11 months old so I don’t know if his quirks have really developed yet. Unless you count never sleeping. Although…whenever there’s something loud running, the washing machine, the food processor, the hair dryer, he’ll yell at the top of his lungs, not crying, just yelling, the whole time it’s on. It’s like he’s saying “are you challenging me, mister food processor? Because I am SO louder than you are.”

the kid loves vacuuming. that’s got to be a quirk, right?

  12. I think I might try that vibrating thing. Maybe tomorrow at work. If my boss asks me to make something that will dirty a bunch of dishes, I shall clench my fists and vibrate. That’ll teach her.

As I don’t have any children (yet!) I will instead tell you a quirk about my cat, Abe. Before we adopted him as a kitten, he lived in a rescue shelter with big dogs. He never learned how to properly “Meow”—so, when he’s upset, happy, etc. he lets out a noise that sounds like, “Har-ar-ar-ewww”. It’s really similar to a puppy bark. Hmm…maybe he’s not so much quirky as he is mildly confused.

    I’m e-mailing the photos tonight!

That picture of Emily made me literally laugh out loud (not LOL, I hate LOL). Your kids are quite quirky, but if you meet my kids, you’ll see yours as quite normal. Seriously. I think kids are just completely weird.

  14. Miss Emily’s picture made me laugh out loud too. Very loudly, I might add. :) What an adorable character she is!

I don’t have kids, but I have many quirks. Oh, the quirks I have. I feel like I’m about to bust out into Dr. Seuss verse here or something. Anyhoodle, one of my biggest quirks is drawers, cabinets, doors, etc. being left open. I cannot stand anything left open for longer than it takes to remove the item you want, then close the door. I have to shut every open closet or drawer, even when I’m not in my own home. It drives me nuts and makes me so anxious to see them open.

My dad is a big tease, and used to love to torment me by purposely leaving the kitchen cupboards open just to see what I’d do. I eventually gave up on the freaking out, and would just inwardly seethe while madly rushing to close them.

I don’t know why it bothers me so much, but it does.

Your Emily is SUCH a little character!!!! She must be so fun!

I used to nanny a little girl who did the clenched fists and vibrating. I just lost it every time she did that… Eyes as big as dinner plates, baring every single tooth in a grin, her curls flopping around all over the place… My boyfriend and I still do that in VERY exciting situations (as in ‘omg we’re making panaeng curry for dinner!!! I love curry!!!!!’) just to crack each other up. How’s that for a quirky thing about ME!

  23. I myself never tire of reading quirky things.

Our “kid” runs around the entire living room and barks at random corners where we pretend ghosts live, to make sense of all the jumping! and barking! Or just really big dust bunnies.
