I’m Still Blogging

Obviously. Or you would not be reading this. I’m oh, so witty when it comes to my blog titles.

I have a kind of love/hate relationship with blogging. It is mostly love, but sometimes the bad stuff rears its ugly head and I have to re-evaluate whether or not it is worth it.

I started blogging in July 2005 after Amanda clued me in to what a blog even was. She had not started one yet, but read many good ones and started her own shortly thereafter. Now she’s a blogebrity, and I get to call her friend. I thought it would be a good way to keep my family up to speed on our daily life, and it’s done more than that.

I have had long-lost friends find me through my site, have kept up to speed with my local friends (it seems to take weeks to get together for a 2-hour play date), and have met many others through this world.

99% of the time it’s been a blessing. A chance to laugh, to share and to encourage each other. It’s that 1% of party poopers who always rain on my parade.

The main problem is that I have really thin skin. You may think that I am a confident woman who has a large personality. I am. Sometimes. But I spent a large part of my life as someone who was quite shy, self-conscious and a little bit awkward. Sometimes a more that a little awkward. That person is still part of me and it does not take much for her to get bruised.

All it takes is one hurtful word, whether I’m on the receiving end or (unintentionally) on the giving end to ruin the rest of my day. I feel sick to my stomach and rather horrible all-around. Me no likey. I pretty much try to avoid any and all situations that give me that feeling.

But as the benefits of blogging still far outweigh the pitfalls, I will keep at it. Whether you like it or not. I guess if you didn’t like it, you wouldn’t be reading this, now would you (wink, wink).

But on to brighter subjects! I said that this blog was to share the everyday, and I will share a few quick tidbits to end this post on a brighter note.

When Matthew and I went on our date/shopping night, he got a sweet button-down shirt as part of his loot. Emily was kind enough to spit up all over it, so it went into the wash. I hung it to dry, and it dried all nice and wrinkly.

We are going out for dinner with some friends tonight and Honey wants to wear his shirt. I offered to iron it for him. I had to actually go and FIND the iron, because it has been about four years since I have ironed anything. Everything I buy is either cotton or a cotton blend. I am all about the glamour, you know.

I just finished ironing his shirt, and I was reminded why I have not ironed in so long. It is because I SUCK AT IT. Like I have never sucked at anything else. Except maybe playing basketball. I suck pretty badly at that too, much to Honey’s dismay. Though he gets a good laugh out of my attempts. Anyway, the shirt might actually look WORSE than it did before I ironed it. At least he has a stash of sweaters that he can pick from.

Graham and Nathan both came into my bathroom this morning while I was showering and stood at the foot of the tub. Nothing like an audience when it is my one place to BE ALONE.

They were both sweet, though, and told me that I had nice “Boo-boos”. Then Graham said, “You share your boo-boos with Emily, right Mommy?”

Yes, yes I do. Actually, they pretty much belong to her at this point. She is just sharing them with ME. I know she will give them back someday. They will be small and saggy, but at least they will be mine.

Graham still needs help in the wiping of the bum department. When he is finished dropping a load, he will yell, “I’m all DOOOOOOONE!”

When we go into the bathroom, he than asks, “Can you smell it?” The stinkier it is, the prouder he is and the bigger he smiles. He is a boy, all right.

The last few times I have entered the bathroom to find that he had taken ALL of his clothes off. Yesterday, I finally asked him why.

“So I don’t get poop on my shirt.”

I don’t even want to know how that would be possible.

  2. I am glad that you’re persevering despite the 1%. I relate to the thin skin, not fun.
LOL, we’ve had some poop “adventures” lately where removal of clothing beforehand would have been much appreciated!

  3. Your kids sounds wonderful. It is hard to not have thin skin when it comes to comments about your life. But your blog stories are great…I feel like I am part of your Candian world…maybe I want to be so that is part of it.

  4. I hear ya on the iron. Mine collects dust and that’s about it!

I’d miss ya if you quit but I too have thin skin so it’s understandable. Let’ not let them rain on the parade

I for one am a little obsessive compulsive when it comes to wrinkly clothes. I iron almost everything including my kids clothes. As if i even have time for that! What can I say, sucker for punishment…

That was really funny. Probably because I totally relate. In fact, my five yr.old asked me if I could smell his big # today….and was quite proud at how stinky it was. Eww. boys. I had to read those last two little stories to my hubby who laughed along with me.

Those were great tidbits from your life. I particularly love the poo one. Isabella can’t fathom that her pants can stay around her ankles when she sits on the potty. She just stares at them then at me wondering when I’m going to take them all the way off and if I don’t she kicks until they come off on their own. Thanks for sharing your adorable kids. And your lost post was sweet too. I cannot believe our girls are already four months old. I just can’t.

  20. I don’t love hearing “I’m dooooone!” (min. once a day still) but it sure is better than a couple years ago when I heard “I did it myself!!!” Ugh.

  21. I understand exactly what you mean about having “thin skin” and I find myself too, questioning the worthiness of blogging. But I know without it I wouldn’t be able to meet and get to know beautiful people like you so in my mind, it far out weighs the bad. We love you and your family, Angela

Flush-able Wet wipes are great, Ty is no longer yelling ‘I’m all done” now it’s “I had a BIG poo mom and I had to use 5 wipes” Good, Good for you, thank you for the up date.

  25. Wow, you and I do have a lot in common. While i’m pretty outgoing and gregarious…it’s really all an act. Always has been…and I have some of the thinnest skin around, unfortunately.

And I seriously SUCK at ironing. I don’t do it, period. My freaking MIL irons underwear for God sakes and I can’t even iron a shirt.
