If you can’t stand the heat…

…come jump in our pool.

A bit of background:

My Nana passed away in January, and left some money to my Mom. She is giving my sister & I a little nugget for our own personal use.

While the accountant in me thinks, “Wee - pay down our mortgage!”, that just didn’t seem right. We should get something for the family to use.

Honey & I would both like an in-ground pool someday, but don’t like the safety risk it poses while we have small kids. A gate and a lock are all fine and good, but kids can climb.

So, we are likely going to pave our driveway. We have a large circular driveway up on the bench that our house is on. Pavement will allow the kids to ride bikes, play street hockey, and shoot hoops.

But the weather has been HOT. And while I take my kids to the lake nearly every day to cool off, we are hot again by the time we get home. We needed a solution. That solution was to use a small portion of Nana’s gift to buy us a POOL, of the smaller variety.

We headed out to Walmart, and picked up this puppy. The ladder will be removed to keep the kids out, and it has a lid to boot. The bonus? We got to the till and it was $100 less than the sticker said.

No problem - more money to spend at IKEA. Kidding. Sort of.

We got home and put it all together with the help of the boys. Log into Flickr to see all the pictures. Not a Flickr friend yet? It’s not too late - just email me!

So to all my local friends who are like us (hot, pregnant…and not, and without air conditioning), come on over. The pool is almost finished filling up, and it this heat it should be warmed up a bit in about an hour…maybe two.

Sweet pool! Our neighbors have one too. I bet it’s lots hotter there than here but we are enjoying our sun - FINALLY!

It looks great, I’ve seen them in boxes before and wondered if they are really as big and convenient as they look. I’ll be interested if you guys use it lots, maybe a good idea for our summer too!

I’m going to be looking forward to that after the long, hot drive up there on Sat!
Looks like fun!

We got a little pool in our yard too but I think yours looks a lot more appealing to me. Plus I’ve never seen your house in daylight. And only in the dark once.
