I Want To Get Away

I want to fly away….yeah.

It never fails. Once this time of year hits (read: cold and grey), I get the itch to go somewhere warm. Really warm. As in hot. The itch gets almost unbearable once Christmas is over and the boredom of January kicks in.

The sun is out today. Sunshine reflecting on the snow is a beautiful, beautiful site. The skies are clear and blue. Which also means that it’s even colder than yesterday. I don’t like cold. While I know how to ski, and would like to ski again, I think I would be happier sitting next to a fire and reading a good book.

Or maybe even laying on a beach in Mexico. That’s even more appealing. We had our honeymoon south of Cancun on the Mayan Riviera and would go back there in a heartbeat. Problem is, it gets more complicated (and expensive) when you have kids.

Karen emailed me a picture of the place that she and Travis are going to over Christmas.

It’s on for a screaming deal, and not only that, it’s family friendly. So very tempting. Except that we would be paying for four of us…and that adds up pretty fast. Never mind the thought of being trapped in an airplane with two very active and loud preschoolers. Definitely not my idea of a relaxing vacation.

We could leave the boys here, except we can’t. While they are pretty self-sufficient at entertaining themselves, I don’t think it would be wise to leave them alone for a week. Call me crazy.

So, we’ll do what we do every winter. Dream of a warm sunny place that we aren’t going to. We have promised ourselves that we will go away without the kids when we celebrate our 10 year anniversary. That’s in 2010, and only 3 1/2 years away. It seems like a long time, but look at how fast life moves by. It will be here before we know it. Right?

Unless anyone wants to take in the boys for a week. They’re cute, sweet, and a good kind of kooky. Any takers?

I would take them!! But it would cost more to fly them here than it would to go to Mexico ;-)

Australia is pretty hot at the moment. And I’m sure the boys would blend right in with my girls….just a thought! ;)

I’m sure there’s lots of people who’d love to take your cute kids for a few days. Heck I would. Ship them to Nelson. It would be a blast to hang out with those boys - they look like they know how to have fun.

Looks like you’d have no problem finding people to watch to your kids!
Now back to the Christmas music… the CD my sister has is called Santa Baby, and it’s a mix made by (and sold at) Starbucks. It’s s gooder!

I’m with you, a week is too long - I wouldn’t enjoy it!

We just got snow and it’s not the cold for us, only -16 but come January I’ll be dreaming of the tropics too.

2 little blondies? I’ll take ‘em! I have a goddaughter who is two and loves to play with the boys, they would have a blast. Hehehe!

I hate the cold too. All winter long I dream about being in Hawaii,or Mexico, or Jamaica, or the Carribean…anywhere warm, basically. Good luck surviving the elements! :)

I hear you about the cold. I can’t stand it. It looks so beautiful outside but as soon as you step a foot out the door, every single part of your body feels like it will fall off. I think Jillian would love to have Graham stay here for a week. Well maybe not a week but a playdate forsure.

I can’t stand the cold either! It’s -26 right now with a windchill that makes it feel like -39!!! Needless to say we are holed up here at home! Hubby is from panama and it’s +28 there plus humidity so it feels like +39….and why did we decide to live where I come from and not where he comes from!?!

I know all about that itch. My vacation “treat” of the year was scheduled to be in April. I. Can’t. Wait. That. Long. So I’m bumping it up to Reading Week. Location won’t be warm (I’d need to win the lottery for that), and is still TBA.

And, my parents went on a cruise for a week when I was five and left my little brother and I with my grandparents, aunts and uncles. They moved us around and kept us so busy that we felt like we were on a vacation of our own. I actually still remember it. Maybe another year and the boys will be ready?

Until then, that fireplace and book plan will have to do. And here I’ll be doing exactly the same thing!!

Angella, you just say the word and Dana and I would take em’. They would have so much fun with Kynan. We are going to Mexico…. on Sunday! I am so excited. We’ve been saving all year. So when we get back, you want to take off, give me a call. Visit redtag.ca, they have some amazing deals! That’s who we booked through.

Wow, it was just as interesting to read your comments as your blog!! All the people travelling… wow! I’lll be in Kamloops and I’m sure we could balance places for your boys… that is, if you really want to leave them?

You should get away sooner than 3 1/2 years!!!! It just turned cold in Nebraska so I understand where you are coming from! Enjoy the cold, snow and warm clothes.

The 10 year anniversary mark sounds really good…we have 5 years to wait though=(

HOT would be very, very nice right now, I agree!

I totally hear you. While I am here in the “Victoria Storm”. It is supposed to get to -16. While James is in Oman. I’m sure he isn’t dealing with snow!!

I can’t wait for a tour or deployment so I can go somewhere…that way I will go to multiple place and get PAID to go!!!
