I Love This Stage

Last week I posted about how I hated the stage that Emily is in. Not everything about it, just the whole I-still-need-a-nap-but-then-want-to-stay-up-late-and-make-Mommy-and-Daddy-crazy stage. Apart from that issue? I actually love the stage that she is in. It is FUN.

Trippin’

Truth be told, sometimes the “fun” is said with a sarcastic tone, as well as “awesome” and “that’s just super“. This girl of mine? Is a little feisty. I have no idea where she gets it from. Nope. Not a clue. Heh.

She has been known to get a little, ahem, upset if she is told “no” or has something taken away from her that she really wants. Her courses of action are one (or all) of the following: 1) Throw whatever she has in her hand (usually AT ME), 2) Run to the chair/table/wall and hit it. Which hurts. And she cries, complete with crocodile tears. And? 3) Throw herself down to the ground. If she does number three I just walk away (while giggling to myself) and she stops once she realizes that I am not paying attention.

So, yes, we are having fun teaching her that NO YOU DO NOT HIT YOUR BROTHER IN THE HEAD WITH A TOY (even though he might deserve it) and hitting something because you are mad NOT SO SMART. Trust me. I have done it more times than I would care to admit.

These episodes (thankfully) do not happen all day long. The rest of the time is watching this little monkey turn from a baby into a little girl.

Running! With her “puppy”!

(Please do not laugh at the bow. I cannot tie one to SAVE MY LIFE.)

She is at that great stage where she is learning so many new things every day. It is hard to keep track of them all but when Honey and I sit and chat about them, we really are amazed. She truly is advanced, you know.

Concentrating

She is trying new words all of the time. While her enunciation is not perfectly clear, she will try to say almost anything, and loves to then apply her new words. One of my favourites this week has been the word “ice”. The end sound is more of a “sh” sound instead of the “s” sound. It cracks me up.

Funny girl

She has a great sense of humour, even at almost-nineteen-months. If she does something that makes you laugh, she will keep doing it and ramp it up to be funnier. Or, if she’s in a particularly goofy mood, she will make silly sounds, try to tickle you, and just act like a nut. She is a complete and utter ham. I also have no idea which parent she got that from. Heh.

Pretty girl

I really could ramble on forever, but the minute details can go in her baby book. Which I have not started. What?

I am just truly enjoying this stage where she is getting more grown up (She walked up the stairs yesterday! Instead of crawling up them!) and her completely unique personality is coming through.

Happy!

I really want to savour it all. Because I am pretty sure that the teenage years? Are going to be fun (And awesome. And JUST SUPER).

  1. As long as she doesn’t bring home a boyfriend who is on parole and whine “But I loooove him”, it will be good.

  2. I’ve noticed in your pictures of Miss Emily over the past month or so how rapidly the transition from “baby” to “little girl” has been happening. She is growing up so fast and her blossoming personality is really captured nicely in your photos.

  4. Well she’s a libra, right? So the tantrums and the feistiness will only increase. Have fun :)
When I was a toddler and I didn’t get my way, my tantrum included holding my breath until I turned blue and passed out. My poor mother.

  8. Oh, I love/hate the “I’m going to go and it something” stage. It sucks because they usually end up hurting themselves and crying even harder, but it is also so darn cute and funny that I end up laughing despite myself!

P.S. I would trade your bow tying ability for mine ANY TIME.

Wow, that second to last picture is simply amazing. It captures so much! I have noticed that 18-20 months or so is really where they start to become litte girls/boys instead of babies.. which means my 15 month old is headed that way soon :( It’s good to know she’s not the only one who gets VERY angry when told “no” :)

haha, we use the same fun, awesome, super words … we’re all about the sarcasm.

She is SO adorable! And temper tantrums? So cute on other people’s kids! Of course, my kids would never do that. Nope, they’re perfect and always listen the first time and never step out of line. Until they wake up.

Because she’s just like her auntie and is always looking for attention!

She is adorable, and it is a totally fun stage. Crazy what they pick up and how quickly. This is the time both of my girls started being interested in potty training, which is another super adventure. :)
