I Have Been Neglecting My Children

I have not been neglecting them physically. They get more hugs and kisses than I can count. They are also served three balanced meals a day. They may be picky about their veggies, but I have been sneaking them in. Shhhh. Don’t tell them.

I have not been neglecting them emotionally or spiritually either. See: above hugs and kisses. We talk to God together every day. I am also always in their face about how to be a good human being. Please and thank you, say sorry, blah, blah, blah. They would probably be happy if I were a little neglectful in this area.

The area in which I have been neglectful is in the documenting of their little lives. I have taken only a handful of photos of them in over two weeks.

First, there was that week that Matthew and I were in Mexico. They were having a vacation of their own with family members they don’t get to see much, so they were hardly neglected. I was unable to jump through the space/time continuum to take photos, however, so we missed a week of Mommarazzi.

The week after our return they were all ill. I, as their Mother, do not find booger-encrusted noses endearing. I figured they would not find them endearing later in life either. Plus, I was too busy sitting on the couch with one, two, or three of them on my lap. No time (or good angle) for taking photos.

Then I went and ran off to Vancouver for the weekend without my family. Then came home sick. Everybody together now, “How sick are you?

Let me tell you.

(If you do not want to hear me whine, feel free to scroll down and look at the photos of my unbelievably adorable kidlets.)

I had two (TWO!) naps yesterday that were almost two (TWO!) hours long. Then slept all night, in between coughing fits and thinking that someone had replaced the ice in my water with shards of glass. My throat is sore, is what I am saying. So sore that I have not had Diet Coke for three days. You know I am sick when…

I went to the doctor this afternoon and told her all of my symptoms. She took a look at my throat and used words like red, sore, oozing pus, and told me that I had a nice little bacterial infection called Strep Throat. She then wrote me a prescription for penicillin. She also told me that based on my other symptoms (chills, aching, etc.) that I likely had an underlying viral infection. If I don’t feel better by Monday, there is also a chance that I could have mono. Viral and bacterial infections? I am a sickness SUPERSTAR!

I am about 95% certain that you cannot catch it through the computer screen, so you’re good.

Back to the kidlets.

After my second nap yesterday, I had a (teeny, tiny) bit of energy. Matthew was making dinner, so I took the kids out on the deck. I wanted to take photos of Emily wearing one of the outfits I bought her on the weekend.

GAP Girl

It is the only outfit that wasn’t a dress.

Here it is from the back.

The back view

She is such a good model.

She was having a hoot with her reflection in the door.

Her new friend

Though she may have been laughing at Graham’s reflection as well. Did you see him?

She thought that her reflection was another baby.

Peek-A-Boo

She would open the door and peek around in hopes of meeting her new friend.

I asked Graham for a shot, and this is the only one he gave me.

Graham

Looking so coy.

Nathan pulled out the “Cheese” smile.

Cheese

Stinker.

After supper (I had a piece of toast) I offered to bundle them up and take them outside while Matthew finished cleaning the chimney. I like a warm house, so I was willing to do my part.

Mr. Nathan.

Nathan

He is going to break many hearts. He already does.

Miss Emily walking the path behind the garden.

Walking

Nathan again. Because he is so cute.

Nathan

The kids headed over to the sandbox. Graham was busy digging for the toys they buried last fall.

Inthe sand box

Emily was in there like a dirty shirt.

In the sand box

She caught sight of Daddy up on the roof.

Miss Emily

I liked this one. So I made it black and white too.

Miss Emily

I could not pick between them, so I posted both.

Here is one I caught of Graham smiling.

Smiling

That smile is going to get him both into and out of trouble.

Miss Emily was about done with all of the photo taking, as you can see.

Enough with the photos

I was done as well. It was getting colder and I was ready to go back inside.

I hope their cuteness makes up for all of my whining. I am praying that the antibiotics kick in within the next twenty-four hours and I can finally get my life back to some semblance of normal. Here’s hoping.

I really hope you don’t have mono
mono kicked my ass a few years back – it was not a fun experience and I do not wish it on anyone

My puppy totally thinks that her reflection is another puppy. It’s hilarious. She runs full-tilt into the mirror thinking that she’s about to jump on another dog. I’m not saying your daughter is like my puppy, but I can’t go very long without talking about my puppy, so I apologize.

    And??

“…words like red, sore, pussy, and…”

I did a double take and had to re-read that. You are going to get QUITE the Google searches off of that one! (Hee)

  5. I’ll send a bunch of healthy vibes your way. I’ve never had mono (knock on wood) but I’ve heard it’s really tough to have when you’re an adult. Especially a mom with three little bundles of energy.

Like Loralee, I totally thought about the searches you’re going to get. You’ll get some dandies off the puss part.

  9. Shameful how you have neglected documenting your kidlets. You do know that third children often make very few appearances in the photo albums and baby books, don’t you? I guess by then, the thrill is gone. Don’t look at me, I only had two.
    Be well.

  17. ooh – be careful with that mono thing! I had it four times throughout high school and college – and since I didn’t sleep each time for 2+ months straight, now have the virus in my body for the rest of my life. Scary! Over – rest if possible (with 3 kids?)! I’ll pray you don’t have it! I wouldn’t wish mono on my worst enemy (or a great blogger like you)! Get well soon!
