When I was pregnant with Graham, we did the usual steps for preparation. We got the baby’s room ready, complete with a crib handmade by Grandpa D. We stocked up on all of the necessary supplies – Q-Tips, Penaten, Vaseline, wipes, diapers, etc. We were good to go.
We had bought both Huggies and Pampers when they were on sale, and figured both would work well. That was simply not the case.
EVERY time we put him in a Huggies, he leaked out into his sleeper or clothes. After 10 or so tries we gave up and stuck with Pampers. When he was older, we were told about the Teddy’s Choice no-name brand. They were half the cost and just as absorbent. We made the switch.
When Nathan came along, we pulled out the remainder of those original Huggies. We had the exact same problem. Every time he wore them, he peed through. We went straight to Teddy’s Choice, and gave the Huggies to someone else who had no problems with them. We thought that maybe Huggies just didn’t work for boys.
My sister Mel has a daughter Haylei, and had a big box of leftover size 1 Huggies that she shipped off to us last month. I figured that since they worked for Haylei (a girl), they might do the trick if we had a girl. Which we did. I bought a box of Teddy’s Choice for backup, just to be safe.
Miss Emily is long and skinny, so the size 1 diapers were too big. We bought some Pampers Newborn size to tide us over. I used the last one today and thought we’d try putting her in one of the Huggies diapers. What do you think happened? You guess it – SHE PEED THROUGH.
This is the first time she has done so, which proves to me that Huggies really do suck. Either that, or they have some kind of side deal with a laundry detergent company. They make sure that their diapers leak, we have to do more laundry, and Tide gets to reap the benefits.
To all of you moms (and future moms) out there, consider yourself warned. Steer clear of the Huggies conspiracy. If you don’t have the same issues as we do, we’ve got a huge stash we can send your way.
For those of you not purchasing diapers and who just come here to see my cute kids, here’s a shot of our princess to make your day:

what a science…I swore by huggies with Connor as nothing else worked! I wished I’d tried the Teddy’s brand-a lot cheaper and probably great.
What a beatiful little one…looks like she’s already changing so much.

Teddy’s Choice all the way!! Your baby girl is so so beautiful

I agree that Huggies suck! I have friends who swear by them, but both my girls had leakage problems with only that brand. I don’t know if you have Aldi in Canada but they have the BEST nappies and they are really economical too – perfect combination!
Cute photo btw!

Yup! We are a Pampers family and won’t even bother trying anything else for baby#2.

We always use Teddy’s Choice as well, and they rock. We actually prefer Huggies over pampers, because we found that pampers feel wet on the outside when wet…But we would only use Huggies for one stage when our tots were long and lean, as Huggies aren’t very wide…the fit just gets taller and skinnier. Ya, live and learn. Hey, have you heard of the homemade wipes? My friend makes them with bounty paper towels, water, baby oil and baby shampoo….I’ll have to get the proper mixture and post it. Babies are expensive!! Emily is mighty cute!

I had the same experience with Huggies. Teddy’s Choice… we love! What a little peanut!

I never liked Huggies and always had leakage (with 3 girls). I did though really like pampers until I had a package where the tabs would pull off. I did stick with the pampers but when I could I used pampers cruisers. Nice and stretchy. But, I will never ever have this dilemma again!Yeh!!!

We’re all about pampers, too. Along with leaking, Huggies left all the little ‘gel crystals’ to leak out as well. Not even close to good when you have a girl (and I have always changed diapers regularly…maybe too often). So I concur. I like Pampers.

Pampers!!! We always used pampers with both the girls. We tried Huggies, but we had the same problem.

I have always used Teddy’s Choice and now we don’t need diapers anymore
Not sure how I feel about that!

I found the same thing. Actually, the huggies size 1 were a lot better then the newborn size but they still didn’t fit as well as the Pampers. Now we’re on Pampers. Teddy’s Choice is the best for the money? We also had originally chose the wal-mart brand of newborn diapers but they were too short & too wide.
Good post & what a sweetie you have.

Well that is just crazy, because Huggies were the ONLY brand that didn’t leak with my boys!!! I would only buy Huggies, all the others leaked SO BAD! Go figure!!!
[Reply]
Angela, you make me laugh. I love the no-name brand too!

I agree with Hannah!
I HAD to use Huggies with Zachary…every other kind either a. leaked or b. gave him a horrible rash.
With Lucas, luckily, we can use no name brands
And with this next one? We are going cloth! Yay!

Teddy’s choice all the way. All they’re doing is catching pee, so if they do that well, I’m all for paying the least amount to get it done.
Love her outfit!!

Here he is! If you can’t handle huggies, why not a store brand that costs you less? My nephew grew up in them and they don’t bother him (no rashes or abrasions), but he’s now age 6 and toilet trained. Glad to see Nathan (hey…got his name right!) is a happy healthy baby. Also your husband(“daddy”) is ready to take on the big responsibility (then again, who carried him inside for 9 mos.?…obviously), but a man is not afraid to share his part of child rearing. I know he works hard and helps plan a budget, then he’s a man I would hang out and have a beer with. You’re a cool (lady) dude too.+

OOPS! that’s a newborn baby girl??? My bad. You talk alot about your 2 boys as much. (bashes my head on the desk). I sure would care if it’s my child you see. (name, age and gender…or I got short-term memory loss). Sorry about that, maybe you can reintroduce your readers to all the 3 kids in a row from oldest to youngest. Anything to help me or I won’t make myself an idiot in here. bye +

I have used all different kinds with all the different children I have looked after in the past. I LOVE the cloth daipers we use, the covers and leak proof, they are awesome. The few times that we have put J in disposables they always send poop shooting up his back. Nice. Not.
Emily is just darling!

Teddy’s Choice all the way baby.

Ok, lets talk diapers! When Big G was born he was in Huggies Newborn for a week and then (due to cheapness) we started him right away on the Teddy’s Choice size ones. We used those until literally 2 months ago when I bought a box and all of a sudden they didn’t absorb anymore. Thinking that maybe it was just me, I didn’t try and return them or anything (but did complain bitterly to my sister and anyone else who would listen!). When my sis had to replenish her supply and went out to buy a couple more boxes (she has twin girls and also used Teddy’s Choice) she found the same thing. We both went from changing pee diapers 2-3 times a day (depending) to having to change our kids every 2-3 hours or else we’d risk finding them sitting in their own puddle of pee (and don’t even ask about the overnight diaper…we’re talkin’ soaked from head to toe!!!!)
It totally sucks cause they are SO MUCH CHEAPER than the other brands, and it was easy cause we have an Extra Foods right in town so I would never have to wait to get them from the city if we ran out.
ARRRGGHHH! Do the diaper woes ever end? I guess I’m not the only one! I like your theory though…the whole Huggies/Tide conspiracy! I wouldn’t put it past them!

I would have to be a voice in hurrah for Huggies. I just love them. We have been given a tonne of Pampers for Brooklyn though and find them just as absorbent so far. But once we get to buying our own diapers, Teddy’s all the way. The only time we have leakage problems is using the last few in the package when Belle has been big enough to move to the next size. They don’t seem to like their boundaries being pushed.
