As most of you know, I am part of the amazing team over at Work It! Mom. I write my column there twice a week and do some other stuff including organizing guest posters for the Problem Solved column. Nataly, who is the founder of Work It! Mom is pretty much the best boss I have ever had. She seems to think I am doing an alright job as she brought me along on a new venture she is a part of.
The Daily Grommet is that new place where I have been doing my thing (Look! I’m even on the About page!). What exactly is The Daily Grommet? I’ll share the official blurb with you:
Daily Grommet tells the story of one unique product every day, with video, original content, live comments, blog and emails. Many people are delighted to support independent or innovative companies with stylish, inventive, useful products. But who has the time to find them? That’s what we do. Fresh finds, true stories, every day.
Each day, The Daily Grommet highlights a new product and has a limited number of them available to purchase. To help get the word out, we are doing a number of cool things. One of them is placing little widgets on blogs around the Internet, mine included (Look over to the right). If someone makes a purchase through it I get a small percentage of the revenue from that sale. If you would like to get in on the widget fun, email me.
The other thing we are doing is hosting giveaways of different Grommets and I am one of the lucky ones who gets to host the one going on this weekend. I am excited about it because it is one that is absolutely perfect for me to host.
My hatred for winter and for being cold is no secret around here. If you do not know this about me you are either 1. A first time visitor, or 2. Not paying attention.
Polartech has come up with an awesome fun new product; a HEATED VEST. Seriously. Check it out.
Nataly (She is also hosting a giveaway! More chances to win!) tested one out and she said that she was nice and toasty for over four hours. If I could get my hands on one of those, I might be a little better at embracing winter. Maybe.
Entering to win is easy. All you need to do is check out the video of the vest on The Daily Grommet and then post a comment here about why you want it/when you are in cold situations when it would be useful/why you deserve it more than I do. (I’m kidding on the last one; I am not eligible to win. BOO.)
I would pick a winner based on the best comment but that puts pressure on you to perform and on me to have to choose. Instead, I will be using the trusty Random.org to pick a winner at sometime on Monday, February 23rd.
So. Go watch the video! Then come back here and tell me why it must be yours/when you would use it! Good luck, everyone.

You know you’ve gotta quit putting great sites on here, you are increasing my internet time substantially…:)
I’d love to enter the contest for my Mom. She has this super bizarre allergy to the cold that over the years has gone from being a pain to being life threatening. A vest like that would be excellent for her on days that are cool that she can’t go out in right now but with the vest might be able to go for a walk.
Anyways, there’s my blurb. Win or not that’s alright, but great site, thanks !

Wow – that looks so fantastic! I’m always cold when I’m outside, so I definitely think I’d get good use out of this, whether I’m hiking or running or whatever.

I’m a reporter and live smack in the middle of the prairies. I often find myself outside freeeeezing in -50C temperatures. Ridiculous, I know. I like to think the trade off will be in summer when I get to get out of the office for some sunshine.
If I weren’t to win, I’d definitely certainly consider buying one.
Now if only someone would create gloves that are warm AND thin enough that a girl can hold a pen to take notes.

While it may be half a degree warmer at our house than at your place, it’s still freakin’ cold. I’d give this to the beloved “mother on the go” at my house.

This makes sense to me. I love the demonstration of the vendor squishing the fabric heater. I would want one for my Dad, he is sick and always, always cold.

I am always cold. Always. I am cold right now as I type this. A heated vest would be most useful to me while walking the dogs. From about October til April, the dogs get woefully short walks because I freeze so quickly. It doesn’t matter how many layers I have on, if I’m outside I am frozen solid. The puppies would really love for me to have a heated vest.

Cleveland, OH +large dog+twice daily walks = I need this vest.
Heck, I might even wear it inside our old, charming, beautiful but woefull uninsulated and heated with a 90 year old heater house!

I want that vest and/or should win it because:
a. It’s awesome.
b. I live someplace that is cold from November until March.
c. I’m getting back in shape (hurrah!) which involves some serious outdoor time (also hurrah! mostly).
d. I totally want to run in that thing. Also, to hike in it.
e. It’s awesome.

I Love It! I am also a very cold natured person. I feel so guilty sometimes when I tell my boys that it’s not warm enough for me to go out and shoot some baskets with them, to take a bike ride or walk the dog around the neighborhood. I absolutely hate big heavy coats. This would be perfect for those cool days when the boys are ready to be outside playing and I’m still whining about it being to cold!

i don’t think i need to tell you why i need extra insulation.
brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Ok, I am one of those people who is “always cold.” I keep an electric blanket at my desk at work, and I live in Chicago, which means winter lasts for, oh, about 6 months of every year…. I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE! to have this vest for my very own!
I’m sure it would keep me toasty for all my weekend-warrior winter sports and then come along to the office with me on Monday morning!
Btw, I’m delurking. I’ve been reading your column religiously (translation: at least twice to three times a week) for about a year now. Plus I went back and read most of the archives… You’re an amazingly talented, funny, and down-to-earth individual. Not that flattery will get me that nice heated vest… but it couldn’t hurt, right?
Just kidding. You’re awesome, and I know you’re laughing right now with me.

That vest is amazing! It would be awesome for skiing and waiting for the train every morning in the freezing cold!

Okay first of all, I live in the quasi Arctic. This vest is a basic survival tool.
How would I know?
I almost froze to death this morning on the walk to school.
No, really. I’ll define windchill for you: whatever the temperature is, take away 20 degrees, then stay inside.

Ok – well first, let me be honest and say that I actually read this probably soon after you posted – because there were no comments yet. And I didn’t want to be comment # 1 because somehow I just don’t think that random.org will pick # 1….so I waited. (I’m a dork…I know)
Reasons why I want the vest:
1) I am perpetually cold (I have a circulation issue…)
2) I live in Canada…enough said
3) Did I mention how cold I always am?
Thanks Angella for another fun giveaway!!

If only you posted this yesterday, perhaps I would have been able to imagine my warmth on yard duty today. I could only stand in one direction because of the wind coming up the hill off Georgian Bay (you know the area, I’m sure you can feel for me!). I’d love to have that vest under my coat!
Too bad they didn’t have such a thing when I was teaching skiing full-time, it would have been perfect. I will definitely share the link with my skier friends.
Who knows, if I win maybe I’ll share…surely we could pass it back and forth across the country as we all need it.

You are just on the top of the world of all things cool!
Dear Random Generator … pick me, pick me. I’m a mom of three who needs to get out of doors to work off 50 pounds of cumulative pregnancy weight. It’s gonna take a while. I’ve been looking for a vest and have been considering a puffy down filled one, but I hesitate as it may be too warm on a brisk walk. I’ve heard that the nylon covered puffy down on the back of the neck isn’t so nice. So, little calculator thingy, pick me! (please.)

Well, clearly because I’ve established how I SUCK at skiing, which means I need extra insulation to keep me warm while my ski buddies hit the slopes and I sit there and play in the snow.
Also, since the contest ends on my birthday, I just know the Random Generator is going to pick me! (Ha.) (I wish.)

Hi!! I live in the ARCTIC. It hasn’t been above zero since early November. Winter here lasts TEN MONTHS. I only go outside at night (hello graveyard shifts) and it is FREAKIN COLD. I wear 3 sweaters and I’m still cold. Cold. COLD. It’s cold here. DO I have to keep typing cold?

Funny, I’ve used a heated vest on my motorcycle for years, never considered there would be one that didn’t plug into that kind of battery. Should be cool.
And WARM. Love my snuggly heated vest on my MC.

And that’s all I can type, cuz my fingers are turning blue!

This looks like such a cool product. I’m a teacher and stand outside everyday to watch my kids at recess. I get so cold in the winter…the kids run around and stay warm, but I freeze!
However, if I won I’d have to decide whether to keep it or give it to my mom…she is freezing all the time and would think it’s the neatest thing!

It’s been well below freezing here for a looooooong time now. Now I don’t need that vest cause I’m one of those people with superb circulation. I’m talking about rarely-wear-gloves-in-the-winter circulation. But my husband desperately needs that vest. We love to walk our cold-loving husky and do so daily. Hubby layers himself with a ridiculous amount of clothing – 5 or 6 layers!! If he had that vest…maybe he could cut it down to 4?
[Reply]
Oh I need, I need. I need this ALL the time. It can be 70 degrees and sunny and my teeth are chattering. I’m tired of wearing a parka on summer evenings and explaining that I’m cold. I’m just cold. There is no explanation. It just takes me a long long time to adjust to any change in temperature. AND I have kids! Kids who want to be outside all the time! Whether my lips are blue or not! This vest could very well save my life.

My (now ex) boyfriend was my personal heater…he was always warm, so if I got a little chilly I would just stand a little closer to him and instead heat…but like I pointed out, he is now an ex and I no longer have my own personal heater to walk around with…I think the vest would make a good substitute…it won’t care when I talk to other people.
