Friday Bullets

Date: Friday September 4, 2009
Posted in: Blogging, Emily, me

My friend Rhi does Friday Bullets and I’ve always thought that I should copy her idea (Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery)(Unless you’re being a douche and not giving credit where credit is deserved).

My brain is fried (nothing unusual, I know) and I’m heading into my four days of CRAZY WORK HOURS. While I want to practice being a “good writer” sometimes it feels good to get all of the random out so that you can, well, practice being a “good writer.”

Let the bullets commence!

- I have two boys. One of these boys always has his hand down the front of his pants. ALWAYS. His brother doesn’t do it nearly as much, so I think that the Testosterone Force is strong with this one. Still, school starts next week and I don’t want him to be That Creepy Kid. I’m pretty sure he keeps his, uh, “playtime” to the home front but there are some things you need not do in front of your Mom. I might just need to tell him to go to his room. (THIS WASN’T IN THE BABY BOOKS.)

- I have had a bleeding nose every day for the past week. I Googled it (I KNOW. Dr. Google is BAD.) but based on the fact that it it only on one side it turns out it is a result of living in a desert climate and picking blowing your nose. The kids have been concerned and asked me why my nose is bleeding so much. I told them it’s because of all of the whining they do.

-I went and posted about how I don’t want summer to end and what happens? Clouds, gusty winds, rain, lightning, thunder and HAIL. I decided to play Murphy’s game and say that I liked fall and I LOVED winter. Then the sun came out. Reverse psychology worked! Apparently Murphy is a school-aged child.

-Due to the cooler temperatures I had to pull out gear for (myself, and) the kids that didn’t consist of bathing suits and shorts. My daughter is not yet three, but her “Size Three” jeans are turning into “floods.” A dress she wore just last year is now a shirt. Our doctor has predicted that she will be six feet tall when all is said and done and I’m pretty sure the Doctor knows what she is talking about.

Tall Girl

-I have a good two weeks between the summer Boot Camp and the fall session (THREE times a week). I’m getting a little bored of the 30 Day Shred. Suggestions welcome. And will likely save Jillian’s life.

-Miss Emily’s earring situation has been on the front page for awhile and I have had many (many, many) people asking what the resolution was. Emily said that she wanted to get it done again. I told her that if she was a brave girl, I would take her to the dollar store (again) and get her a treat. She was a little nervous, so this time she sat on my lap while it was done. The gun popped, three seconds passed…then the pain kicked in.

There was flailing and kicking and hands smacking my face. I held her tight and sh-sh-sh’d in her ear and walked with her and bounced along. It felt like eternity, but it was a mere two minutes (again) and she was back to normal. She beamed, got her treat and could not wait to show Daddy her ears when we got home.

Emily

Miss Emily

However. If one falls out again, I give up. I can’t take it anymore. As much as she was the one who wanted it re-done, I just. can’t. do. it. again.

I feel like I need a happier bullet to end on. Oh, wait!

-I recently discovered Sprite Zero. It goes great with lemon slices. And sometimes vodka. Or so I’ve heard.

It’s the Labor Day weekend! I’m going to, uh, labor (Not as in give birth (HALLELUJAH) but as in workity, workity, work.) What are your plans for the long weekend?

Awww, Emily was so brave getting her ear pierced again! I hope she doesn’t lose any more earrings though ;-)
She looks SO CUTE in that pink top & jeans!
And I can’t believe you only just discovered Sprite Zero! It’s great, huh? No calories and tastes good. It’s the only soda I let my kids have (and even then it’s only for a treat).

Well, spring break started today here in the Southern Hemisphere, so I’m off to do a tour of South Africa for the next week :)

I will be coming over to check out the photos. South Africa is where my brother is for the month of September (I’M SO ENVIOUS).

I just did this same kind of post for today but I didn’t know there was an OFFICIAL name or anything!

My cousin Jackie, she is slightly over 6 feet tall and gorgeous. I do remember her having a whale of a time finding jeans/pants long enough but… it seems lately, there is more and more “tall” sizes available.

I had the same nose problem when I moved down to New Mexico. Talk about painful! And embarrassing.

This weekend…. playing second shooter at a wedding and taking the kids to the state fair!

Happy Friday!

Have fun at the wedding!

As for the bullets, a lot of people do them, but Rhi is consistent. I don’t think she has a copyright to it or anything, though. It was more of a general reference to people who copy without giving credit :)

Sadly I don’t think the “playtime” ever goes away for some boys. My husband sleeps with his hand down his boxers, as if aliens are going to abduct “it” during the night!

Friday is definitely a good bullet-listy type of day. It requires less thought. :) Hopefully Miss Emily’s earrings will stay in this time!

I’ll be spending the weekend at my parents’ place on the Sunshine Coast, which won’t be all that sunshiney this weekend, unfortunately. But that’s okay – even when the weather is gloomy it’s still beautiful there!

I would check on the earrings that screw back or just lock in place. Checked my jewelry box and the ones for the girls locked the backs in place as well. I was going to offer to send them to you, but alas I can only find ONE of them. But if I find the other I will send them your way, unless you want me to check out our local Claire’s which is where we got the ears done and see if they have them. Its really no problem if you want me to check.

And The Chicken is nearly as tall as her sister who is 3 years older than she is. She too is wearing dresses as shirts these days with leggings…it looks cute.

This weekend we are going to the island and the lake cottage where I plan on NOT losing my dog this time. Not that I was planning on losing him last time he got lost. Which makes me ponder how one does lose a dog on a 3 mile island for 9 days-I am not sure, but I did it.

Have a great weekend and don’t work too hard-enjoy the sun if you can! xoxo

I hope you find some time this weekend for fun (labouring on the labour day long weekend just seems wrong somehow.)
I was supposed to camp this weekend but then it started to rain so now I have no plans and it is GLORIOUS. I am going to stay in my pyjamas all weekend and be a hermit.

My sister’s getting married this weekend so that’s the main focus for me (I’m the maid of honour). Other than that, we’re just trying to cling to the remaining days here in Halifax before we have to go back home.

If you’re tired of the Shred (I had to give it up because it did bad things to my ankles and knees), I just found exercisetv.tv through Kristen Chase. It has a lot of free (FREE!) full exercise programs with everything from cardio to abs to yoga (which is the one I’m interested in trying).

My plans for the weekend? I’ll be workity workity workin’ as well.

-wow on the ears pierced again! I wouldn’t be able to handle watching my kid go through that a third time either.

-more “endowed”? I guess this is one of those posts that’s going to have to disappear once your boys (and their girlfriends) start reading your blog. That could get … awkward …

-bleeding noses SUCK.

-summer JUST STARTED here. It’s been about 30 all week. Or hotter. Unlike most people, I enjoyed our 20’s summer. (Dodges bullet from Angella.) I just like it when I don’t feel like I’m melting, okay?!

Jen’s last blog post..did someone request some wedding photos?

I didn’t mention *which* son, but I took the reference out.

It’s back up to the 30’s today, thanks be to God.

I can’t believe she’s that brave at (not quite) 3 years old. Yowsa!
I loooooove her shirt-dress, it looks super cute with her jeans.
I’m going to go to Vancouver Island to see my grandparents for a couple days :) I love riding the ferry!

Wow… can you believe I’ve never had a bleeding nose? Ever. I’d probably freak out if it happened, no idea what to do.
Stay far, far away from Dr. Google!! You can scare yourself sicker… I did this last year!!

Good luck with the champion Pocket Pool player… that’s funny but yeah, I can imagine the worry :) And good luck with the earrings, again!

I’m workity workin’ this weekend too… looong wedding to shoot on Saturday and a normal length one on Sunday… crossing my eyes for no rain. (Fingers is just too easy!)

You’ve never had a bleeding nose? WOW. Though I don’t remember if I had any before moving to desert country.

The visual of you crossing your eyes made me laugh.

I love the picture of Emily with her walking away. Cute little summery moving into fall.

Now, what to do with the hands down the pants thing? I have a boy and as soon as the diaper is off the hand is there. I don’t care about it at home but I didn’t think about it being something he will continue to want to do out in public. He is almost 1. This might sound semi creepy but my girlfriend has a son who is also quite endowed and the dad just had to teach the son had to position his boy parts to keep them from getting chafed by fabric. He kept stuffing his hand down there because it was uncomfortable and sensitive. Now that it is all repositioned there is a lot less hands down pants. Oh parenthood!

You know, I was going to comment about how I really enjoy your blog but felt a little…ahhh…uncomfortable …about you describing your sons boy parts. However, in reading other’s comments, apparently I’m a little sensitive.

Anyway, I’ve been teaching since ‘96 and little+boys=hands-down-pants. Us teachers don’t really notice after awhile (nor do we eat the “ya wanna have one of my cookies”…we always save those yummy treats for “after school”..ahem)

Wow, that Emily is brave! Here’s hoping they don’t fall out anymore, until at least 3 months from now!

I will be laboring (not a child) this weekend by cleaning my house because I’m having mom and Gram over for a BBQ on Sunday.

Yay! Beautiful new ears!! I worked last night and slept most of today. So much for Labor Day off. And it was hell last night. Maybe I’ll write a post if I get up the courage. Probably not tonight. It totally feels like a Guitar Hero in pajamas kind of night.
