Fall Family Fotos (and FAQ)

How’s that for alliteration?

There is no “Foto Friday” this week. I don’t know why I need to state that. I never said it would be every Friday but I feel like it should be. I am such a people pleaser. Sigh.

Life takes precedence, however, and as such we will be showing photos of our fall family foto shoot.

Plus, all you FAQers (hee!) had some good questions and I spent a bunch of time answering them. Look up. Look waaaaayyyy up. Or click here. Thoughts?

There will now be many photos (with more on Flickr, of course) for those who are of a visual persuasion (Hi Mom! And you Foto Friday lovers!).

Karen and I had a brain wave. We thought it would be smart to meet at a park with our respective families on a nice sunny day. We both have the same camera and know how to wield our weapon (the camera) and thought we could take Christmas photos for each other.

Good idea, right?

Nope. Bad idea. REALLY BAD IDEA.

There was a meltdown.

It’s a rough life

And another meltdown.

Poor Emily

Nathan also melted down but I thought it was time that I played the comforting mother, rather than the mommarazzi. He recovered quickly.

He bounced back

Not that you could tell by the expression on his face.

The family photos were a disaster, mainly because the kids were too busy watching their friends run around all willy nilly. Then there is that crazy Graham kid who thought that Daddy’s head was a turntable.

The hiphoppopotamus

He’s the hiphopopotamus. His lyrics are bottomless.

He is also nuts. And I love it. Not that you could tell that by the following photo.

Caught in the act

Matthew and I were caught in the act. Telling Graham to knock it off smile nicely for the camera. Which he was doing. Duh.

We got some good photos not involving the entire family unit.

Jean Bum.

Jean Bum! In the leaves!

Dudes.

Dudes

Dudes and Sarah (Graham’s betrothed).

Three

Playing in the leaves.

Leaves!

Daddy and his girl.

Daddy and his girl

Sigh.

That hot guy and I are going on a hot date tonight. Wheeeeeee!

That’s all I’ve got, folks. Have a great weekend! Doing anything interesting?

  1. I’m always SO amazed at these awesome photographers out there that can get their kids to sit still and smile all the time. They must have magic powers or something. The older my little man gets the harder to get a still shot, good lighting or not! :0

Awww! Sweet pics! This weekend? Our best friends, aka my in-laws, are leaving. They’re moving today and coming over soon … sad weekend for us.

Just read your FAQ … my mom, my daughter, and I also have the same middle name – and it’s spelled wrong! (Crazy dutch people!!) Cool!

  6. One year, we had my mom try to take our Christmas photo on two separate planned photo shoots in pretty locations…and we ended up using a candid shot she’d taken in a diner where we were having ice cream.

Have fun on your hot date!

Total reminder of how it really was. :)

  8. I love the FAQ page! And the pictures, as always, are gorgeous. Enjoy date night! I just had one of those last night myself…you know what they say; it’s all fun and games until the baby gets a stomach virus and projectile vomits everywhere.

    Good times.

  10. I love how you took this experience that didn’t turn out at all like you planned and found the humour in it with a post we could all chuckle at. YOU are great like that!

  12. I love these! They capture the reality of life with 3 kids…a little mayhem, a few meltdowns, and a lot of fun. I think you’ll cherish these more than just the cliche “everyone smile!” shots in the long run.

LOVE these ones! Those meltdown pictures are just too much! Hope you got one or two that you liked in between all the mayhem!

  16. Beautiful pics. Yep, love the last one. The ones of the kids crying…been there, done that! It never quite works out like we think it should, does it? Oh well, the other pics turned out really good though. Have a great weekend. (even though its already Sunday in Canada, I think..)

  17. Ooooh, I love the sepia tones in that last one.

And cracking up at Graham “screwing” his Daddy’s head.

“He’s the hiphopopotamus. His lyrics are bottomless.” – Bwahahaha!

  18. It’s the thought that counts and let’s be honest a smiling photo with everyone cooperating is just so boring…I love the honest kids play happening, so fun!
