Dear Emily,
Well, another month has flown by. You’re the ripe old age of 2 months! I was thinking about how at this age so much happens that we start out talking in weeks, and then months. The use of “months” in stating your age loses its impact as you get older. Though when you’re a teenager, half a year is important. As in, “I’m 15 and a half“, which means you are SO much more mature than those babies who JUST turned 15. By the time you get to my age, you don’t use it at all. I tell people I’m 31, not “31 and eleven months.”
You have changed so much this month. This is the month that you “woke up.” It’s also the month that you “started sleeping.” You might think these two contradict, but they don’t.
Your daily routine goes something like this. You wake up, and then you nurse. And then the awake time fun begins. You smile, you coo, and you make the cutest little talking sounds. You love to sit in your chair in the window and have long “conversations” with Daddy. He’s quite adept in your language and the two of you melt my heart.
You are also having longer naps during the day, and longer stretches of sleep at night. I’m afraid to say how long they are, for fear of you mixing things up, but let me just say it feels wonderful to have some decent chunks of night time sleep.
We tried you with a soother, but you can’t really be bothered with it anymore. You have found your hand instead. When I lay you in your cradle, I can hear you sucking on it as I leave the room. Then we don’t hear from you until after your nap (yay for longer), or when you wake up in the night to feed (which isn’t very often). We still bring the soother when we head out into public to help pacify you if need be; you haven’t mastered finding your hand when you’re sitting upright yet.
You had your two-month check-up today. You’re 24 inches long! You’ve grown 3 inches in two months! It’s no wonder that you’re in 3-6 month clothes. That puts you in the 95th percentile for height. You weigh 5.5 kilos, or 12 pounds, 3 oz. You’ve gone down to the 50th percentile for weight, but the doctor’s not concerned. Neither am I – you still have little folds on your thighs. Nothing wrong with being tall and skinny…that was my dream for myself growing up. The doctor told us that you’re perfect, but we already knew that, didn’t we?
Your brothers still love you and kiss you all day long. Graham often says, “I love Emily SO, SO, SO, MUCH!!” And he does. Nathan does too, and says, “Awww, cute!” when he looks at you. I can’t wait to remind them of this when you are all teenagers.
Here’s my favourite picture of you from this month.
It shows you all soft and sweet. Your eyes are an amazing shade of blue. Your eyelashes seem to be longer each day. Your little peach fuzz hair is still curling with every drop of moisture that hits it.
We all love you and can’t wait to see what this next month brings.
Love,
Mommy.

Your kids are all so cute. I love the lamb costumes. I can’t believe Emily is two months old!
