Embracing Winter (Ish)

Date: Friday January 11, 2008

It is not a secret that I hate winter. I have not rambled on about it much, but that is sure to change next week. Mr. Weatherman tells me that the daily high will be minus fifteen degrees. Celsius. Which is about five degrees Fahrenheit for all of you loverly Americans.

That is COLD, regardless of the temperature system used.

My idea of a good time in the winter is to curl up with a good book, next to a roaring fire, while drinking coffee with Baileys. That dream is no longer the reality when you have three children five and under who literally vibrate with energy.

If I could somehow tap into that energy and market it? I would rule the world.

In order to keep them from (literally) climbing the walls and me from (literally) tearing my hair out, we have been bundling them up and taking them outside. In the snow. Which is COLD.

It has snowed here almost every day this week, and the hill behind our house has a great base. These kids were going to go sledding, whether they wanted to or not.

Really, Mommy?

Pointing at the hill of doom

Over there? In the snow?

Yep. And none of this carrying you up the hill business. You guys are heavy. Pick up your boards and walk up that hill!

Going up

Here’s a close-up of Nathan.

Nate Dawg

Pick up the pace, dude!

Matthew took Emily with him.

Daddy and his girl

*

Snow spray!

Did you see her pink toque?

Wheeee!

All that snow in her face made her pretty peeved.

Hates the snow

Now for the dudes. They had an awful time.

Hating it

*

Miserable

The were absolutely miserable.
Not having fun

*

No. Fun.

We had to force them to try to have fun.

This sucks

*

No. Fun.

Matthew thought it was time that Miss Emily went down by herself. She is so advanced after all.

Hang on here

He taught her where to hold on.

This is lame

She hated every minute of it. After eight trips down all by herself, we finally gave in and stopped flinging her down the hill.

OK. Seriously? This is ALL MY KIDS WANT TO DO. Graham calls it “snowboarding”. The two dudes would be out there all day if it were not for my hatred of the cold pile of work to do.

All of this snow fun was really making me pine for a ski vacation. I am going to go against the majority of recommendations made by you guys.

I LIE!

We just booked a trip to Mexico! In February!

Squeee!

You really are a rotten mama, Angella. Those poor children :-)

I don’t think I’ve ever really to go sledding, but those boards are making me re-think things.

Where are the pictures of you going “Wheeeeeeeee!” down the hill? Are you holding out for a sled with a Bailey’s Hot Cocoa holder?

Fantastic pictures! I remember the thrill of racing down a hill on some toboggan or sled when I was a kid. Those were the best days. Running and sliding and screaming with joy. Looks like a great time was had by all.

Hooray for Mexico! You guys will have a fantastic time! How long will you be there for?

The “pretty peeved” face of Emily is ADORABLE!!!! You’re right - it looks like she really hates sledding and that bit of snow on her nose!!! It must be fun having that hill in the back yard…Well, for the kids anyways! And horray for a trip to Mexico!

I haven’t been around too much lately but just read your news of going to Mexico! yay! I know you will have so much fun. If you do go shopping in the markets and you are bad at bartering make sure if you want that hot imitation purse you get your man to do it for you! I really wanted this nice Chanel purse from the market and the woman wanted $80.00 to start. My boyfriend got her down to $30.00! I always feel bad bartering because I feel like they need the money….but he reminded me that they are trying to rip me off in the first place!! Just somethin I thought I would share! Hope you have a blast!!
