Don’t Stop Believin’

I, like most girls I know, like to dance. Scratch that. I love to dance. Get me in a situation where there is good music and a group of friends and I will cut that rug like nobody’s business.
My husband, however, does not like to dance. A lot of that dislike stems from his inability to match his footsteps to the beat of the music playing. He can jump like a mofo, and his basketball hero status will attest to that fact, but he has no dancing rhythm whatsoever. When we went to Mexico nearly two years ago, he suggested that we go to the discotheque. He knows how much I love to dance and was willing to sacrifice his pride for me. Bless his heart.
We left the discotheque after, oh, fifteen minutes or so because I wasn’t willing to sacrifice my pride. I also love him too much to see him suffer so openly.
It is no secret that we have a dance-fest at casa Dykstra almost every night. I had downloaded a few songs from the Glee soundtrack and the family went to town.
(The open shirt was for my benefit. HAAAAAAAAA.)
You have to applaud a man who will not only dance with wild abandon for the sake of his children, but who will let his wife post the video evidence of that event on the Internet.

That is quite possibly the most adorable thing ever. I hope my family does this someday.

My Husband also Does. Not. Dance. Nor do I. But we’ve both done crazier things to entertain our daughter. Anything for our kids, right? Someday I’ll share it too! Shhhhhh.

Too sweet, and you can tell your husband he’s not the only one lacking rhythm. I can sing, play a various number of instruments but when it comes to doing anything other than tapping my foot or doing the “baby sway” I cause injuries. It’s not pretty.

I don’t have sound on this computer right now, but even without it, that was the most adorable video! So awesome! I love your idea of having nightly dance parties. I used to do that all the time when I was in university, and those were so fun. ![]()

How can you not smile when you watch that?! And Matt’s all about the booty-shakin’, hey? Nice. ![]()
PS: Love the music! Glee is the best.

I love it!
When we have dance parties with my niece, we dance the same way – by jumping up and down with our hands in the air like no one cares!

I was going to say the same as Amanda … Matthew sure knows how to shake his booty.
We dance every day too. Sometimes Jordan joins in but it’s a tad painful to watch him dance so I try to face the girls. ha!
Comment by Jen on November 11th, 2009 @ 12:03 pmHee, I have to chime in by saying that I don’t know about his feet, but he’s got the butt-shaking down to a fine art!
This is stating the obvious to you but dude, your husband is ADORABLE.
(Men don’t always love being called adorable, so please don’t tell him I said so!)

That video? Seriously one of my favorite things about this week. I also LOVE to dance, but I can’t say/write/read that phrase (“I love to dance”) without thinking about Sarah Jessica Parker’s character in Girls Just Want to Have Fun, and that scene where she’s standing in front of the class as the new girl in town like she’s a ballerina. Heh.
(Also: we never had our Chicago Dance Party, which just means we have to make up for lost time in New York this year.)

Comment by Laura on November 11th, 2009 @ 6:28 pmYou need to increase the tutu population in your house… that’d make some sweeeet videos ![]()

Sweet! Seriously — that does say “love” that he let you post the video — now you have to let him film you and the kids and then you post that too.
I recognize the butt-shaking. Did Nathan get it from Matthew or did Matthew learn it from Nathan?
He’s got to move it move it.
Keep up the good play!
Hey, how come your comment time has not fallen back?
