This morning at church they incorporated a child dedication ceremony to conclude the 40 days of community that we participated in.
For those of you who don’t know what a child dedication service is, I’ll explain as simply as I can. It is not a child baptism. According to the Bible, people are baptized after they make a conscious decision to follow Jesus. At a child dedication service, we as a family are just making a public stand that we will raise our children in accordance with what we believe. Our church family commits to help us the best they can, through praying for us and just supporting us.
We had dedicated Graham when he was a baby, and today we dedicated both Nathan and Emily. I had Karen take pictures for me. The music stand was in the way, but here’s the best family shot she could get:
I should have had her take a family photo after the service, but that coincided with lunch and naptime, so we headed home post haste.
We have a wonderful church family and I feel so blessed to belong there. Have a great Sunday everyone!

Happy Dedication! You make a wonderful family, music stand or no music stand

That’s wonderful, Angella. We had Ethan dedicated when he was 4 months old, and we are having Tyler dedicated on the 19th Nov!! Must be the month for it!!
The photo is still lovely. I will definitely remember to get a family photo after ours, I’m sure I would have forgotten as we are also having a lunch afterwards

I personally love the idea of dedication. A very young child, or baby for the matter, has no way of consciously making a choice to accept Jesus into their lives, in my opinion.
The photo is great because the family is great. By the way, did you notice that all your “men” are wearing sweaters?

I love how solemn Graham looks in the photo…taking the whole thing very seriously.
We had both our daughters dedicated too, its so special to have the Church community stand with you in a commitment to your kids. Beautiful.
