Could I Be Your Girl?

Thursday night was one of the best nights that I have had in a very long time.

This is not to say that my nights are generally bad.  They are all fine, and good, and awesome.

However. Every once in awhile it is good to do something different, something new, something that stimulates your heart, your soul, your being.

Live music does that for me.

Back in September Matthew told me that he had heard on the radio that Jann Arden was coming to the new Event Center in Penticton (20 minutes away).  I have always wanted to see her live.  We talked to our good friends to see if they were interested in joining us and of course they were.  On the day that the tickets went on sale I called at the opening time.  I asked for the “best available” tickets.

“I have front row, center, available.  Would you like those?”

HECK YES.

Three months later it was time to go.  We started the night out for dinner with our closest and dearest friends.

Karen and Travis.

Amanda and Steve.

Us.  OBVIOUSLY. (My full regalia can be seen here.)

We headed to the Event Centre and took our seats.  The tickets did not mention an opening act but there was one.  A guy by the name of Shawn Hlookoff. I was literally blown away.  His voice, his talent, his gift. It was absolutely phenomenal.

During the intermission Amanda and I went up to the groupie pit sales table and bought a CD.  Dude is talented.

We scurried back to our seats in order to see Miss Jann perform.  I cannot give the experience any justice with mere words.  Her songs made my heart leap into my throat. Her words made me laugh from the deepest regions of my belly.  I was front row center at an event that moved me to the core.

Towards the end she started to sing “Good Mother” and I all of a sudden found myself standing. Surrounded by the people I love the most. Singing as hard and as loud that I could. It was an experience. My heart is still fluttering over a day later.

There were more songs, more singing, more connection.  I didn’t want it to end.

Events such as these cannot last forever.  I know this.  I am just glad that I got to share it with the friends I love the most.

The night was perfection.

*Jann Arden. Obviously.  I’d like to add that the lovely Jann commented on this very post.  Proof that she is truly awesome.
