Choose Ye: The Chocolate Edition

This weekend there was a whole lot of chocolate talk on Twitter. Whoorl started it, and it ran from there. A whole lot of debating was going on. Which chocolate bar was better than the others?

The whole Canadian versus American debate also came into play.

I was inspired by my friend Meg who does the “Choose Ye” style of posts. She may have done a “chocolate” Choose Ye post already, but I cannot remember. I cannot even remember what I have posted half the time, to be honest.

Without further adieu, here is my inaugural (and maybe only) Choose Ye post.

If you were to choose, what would it be?

1. Smarties or M&M’s?

2. Milk or dark chocolate?

3. Coffee Crisp or KitKat?

4. Cadbury Mini Eggs or Hershey’s Eggies?

5. Purdy’s Hedgehogs, or whatever the US equivalent is?

On the whole Canadian/American divide, apparently Smarties in the US are what we call Rockets in Canada. Rockets in Canada? NO CHOCOLATE WHATSOEVER. They are pure sugar. And awesome.

You Americans are in dire need of a healthy serving of Canadian Smarties.

My American friends have also never heard of a Purdy’s hedgehog (I weep for you). I have never heard of a Thin Mint (Loralee and Ali have drooled over mentioned them).

If you do not feel like playing “Choose Ye”, then tell me what chocolate bar I neglected to include. I am also intrigued by chocolates that are unavailable to me, being a Canadian and all.

For being a good sport, Miss Emily and Mr. Bear would like to serve you a “tea” or “coffee”.

    Ok. Here we go …

1 ~ Definitely Smarties! Yum. Yum.

2 ~ Milk chocolate. I’m not a dark chocolate kind of girl!

3 ~ Kit Kat all the way!

4 ~ Ewwww. What are eggies?! If they’re ANYTHING like Cadbury Eggs … no.thank.you!

5 ~ I must admit. I’m one of the not so privileged. I’ve never heard of a Purdy’s Hedgehog … but they look dee-lish!

Thin Mints are pretty good. I’m sure I’m going to be quite an oddball saying this … but I’m not really a big chocolate fan. :( I prefer Sweet Tarts, Spree, SOUR Patch Kids, etc.

    1. I’ve never had these Smarties you speak of so I’d have to go with M&Ms.
    2. Dark chocolate
    3. I’ve never heard of Coffee Crisp but that sounds better than a kitkat.
    4. I’m a huge Cadbury Mini Egg fan… never heard of the Hershey’s eggies. I do NOT like cadbury cream eggs though.
    5. Never heard of these either but chocolate and hazelnut can’t be bad!

  5. 1. M&M’s (specifically, peanut or dark chocolate M&M’s when available)

    2. Dark, though milk chocolate is best for s’mores

    3. KitKat

    4. Never eaten either one, to my knowledge, unless they’re called something else in the U.S.

    5. Never eaten Purdy’s Hedgehogs, and I don’t know what the equivalent would be.

    6. I am very, very sad for you that you do not know Thin Mints.

    7. You know what else? Canadian Oreos are COMPLETELY different from American Oreos. (U.S. Oreos are better.)

    5. What the blazes are Purdy’s Hedgehogs? I even clicked on the link and they don’t ring any bells in my head.

ROCKETS, Oh, GLORIOUS, ROCKETS! My sister and I used to use them as our “pills” when we played doctor as a kids. I still gorge on them today. YUM!

  9. OH, a post on my favorite topic…CHOCOLATE! First I have to say, I’m proud of my son for being as avid a chocoholic as his momma! ;) It’s good to start them early!

My favorite item of chocolate is Reese’s Easter Eggs. YUM. I like the shapes they make the rest of the year as well (pumpkins, trees, etc)…but the eggs are my favorite. Yes, I know, I’m a nutjob…hubby tells me this constantly!

I also like Mr. Goodbars. :) And Brach’s Chocolate Covered Peanuts.

And I agree with most everyone else…Cadbury Cream Eggs are nasty.

    Milk Chocolate.
    Coffee Crisp.
Mini Eggs!!!!! I think they should be a food group! Mmmm!!
I’m not a fan of the Prudy’s hedgehogs, but I do love their vanilla caramel in milk chocolate!!!
I don’t love just pure chocolate, it needs to be on something or with something. Like mint chocolate, or chocolate covered strawberries, or something along those lines.
Cool post. I like seeing what others write.

I love the differences in candy between countries. I was fascinated with candy when I was in Paris several years ago.

    Coffee Crisp.

Reese’s peanut butter cups and turtles come very high on the list. I’m not a fan of “flavoured” chocolates ever, like fruity or minty, but caramel and nuts and peanut butter are good.

  16. Mmm… chocolate! My favourite food group! As you’ll be able to see from my answers, I’m dangerously addicted to the stuff.

    1. M&M’s. Smarties are too candy-like, and I’m not a fan of candy. M&M’s are much tastier and have more chocolate in them.

    2. Milk chocolate.

    3. Both are fantastic, but I would choose a KitKat Chunky that is made in the UK. Seriously, you cannot compare. The chocolate in Europe is billions of times better than what we call chocolate over here. I brought a box of those KitKat’s home with me after my time in Europe, and they were gone so fast!

    4. Cadbury Mini Eggs, but I much prefer the Cream Eggs. Yeah, they look disgusting, and are so full of sugar, but they’re so darn tasty! I was at the grocery store the other night, and they were on sale for 30 cents each. I picked up a handful of them. LOL.

    5. Hedgehogs, baby! Yum!

    5. Purdy’s Hedgehogs look so damn good, OMG. To my knowledge there isn’t an equivelent. Maybe…rocher

I always have to be the blacksheep. I LOVE Cadbury cream eggs, hehe. I also love Cadbury chocolate bars. Chocolate almond, to be exact. It has a sort of tangy, fruity taste to it but its soooo subtle. Ugh. If you do not have these in Canada, I will send you one. No one should live without Cadbury chocolate bars. Ever. Or…Russel Stovers (normally I HATE russel stovers chocolate) ‘private reserve’ chocolates. Like Bavarian creme brulee and Black forest truffle. *Dies* Ugh, so good.

I’m a chocolate freak, clearly. I don’t care for normal candy shelf chocolate much but I’ll eat it in a pinch. I figure if I’m spending money on chocolates they better be good. Like See’s….which I bet you don’t have. Maybe I should send you some of THAT. TeeHee.

  23. 1. Smarties or M&M’s? M&M’s *I had no idea there weren’t ‘real’ smarties south of the border.

    2. Milk or dark chocolate? a piece of dark chocolate with a glass of red wine is heavenly, but I swing both ways with the chocolate.

    3. Coffee Crisp or KitKat? hard one…Coffee Crisp

    4. Cadbury Mini Eggs or Hershey’s Eggies? Mini eggs are my absolute fave! (And you only need a couple of ‘em to get your fix. Especially if you suck on ‘em before biting into the chocolate. Seriously. Yummy.

    5. Purdy’s Hedgehogs, or whatever the US equivalent is?

I don’t think Ferrero Rocher is an equivalent of the hedgehog – but it would be close minus the nuts…
Hedgehogs (although it’s been many years since my tastebuds have encountered one) are yummy.

All time fave choc bar???? After Eight (dark chocolate and mint).

And us Canadians have Girl Guides (I guess the equivalent of Scouts….and we get fabulous mint chocolate cookies…)

    4. Cadbury Mini Eggs or Hershey’s Eggies? Cadbury Easter Eggs, so my favorite…Louise (best friend) bought me a bunch and hide them around my house in the days leading up to Easter, it was very sweet.
    5. Purdy’s Hedgehogs, or whatever the US equivalent is? I don’t actually like Hedgehogs, however I love the little Peanut Butter Fingers from Purdy’s.

    Cadbury Caramilk
    Mint Aeros
    Crunchie Bar
