Buyer Beware

When Matthew and I were in Mexico, we went on a shopping excursion to Playa del Carmen. The list for ourselves was short (coffee flavoured tequila), but we wanted to get souvenirs for the kidlets.

We got them some Mexican maracas and hand drums, but wanted to get them something else. I had already decided that I wanted to buy Emily a dress (Or, ahem, three). Matthew thought it would be neat to buy the boys soccer shirts. We were on a mission.

It was harder than I thought it would be. First of all, we were limited by sizes. The boys are 5 1/2 and 3 1/2. Not many options in that size range. We also thought they would like the shirts more if we bought them in the dudes’ respective favourite colours. Graham loves red. Nathan loves green.

We decided to venture off of the main shopping strip to a little underground “mall”. We had been told that the stores off of the beaten path had lower prices, and that we could (and should!) barter for a better price. We were a little time constrained, as I was not about to miss out on the BEST NACHOS I HAVE EVER EATEN before we caught the bus back to the resort.

Lo and behold, we found a store with soccer shirts that would fit the dudes! They had green ones! And red ones! Matthew (Actually I) bartered down to an acceptable price and we paid for the shirts. Nathan was to be on team Adidas, and Graham on team Toyota. Seems fitting, as we drive a 4Runner. Awesome.

Upon return to the resort we laid our purchases out on the bed. In our excitement and haste, we somehow missed something that in hindsight? Had I noticed it? Would have swayed me from buying one of the shirts.

The dudes are too young to understand, and love to wear their soccer shirts. I have no problem with them wearing the shirts around the house. Here is Nathan modeling his.

Team Adidas

Yes, that is Honey’s foot. I asked him to move it out of the frame, and he told me he was “keeping it real”.

Nathan is always saying, “Take a picture of me!” (Hello middle child.) Here are a few more of Mr. Team Adidas.

Ladies, guard your daughters.

The topic came up today because Graham wanted to wear his shirt to school. I did not think that it was a good idea, but conceded, as long as he wore his sweatshirt. And kept it on.

A certain Mexican sponsor has an entirely different meaning here in Canada.

Bimbo

That is one shirt that Miss Emily will never wear.

  2. hehe that’s awesome.

I didn’t buy anything with labels in Bali cause I’m not fluent in Bahasa. Granted, most of the stuff was in english…but I have trouble speaking that, most days.

What I lacked in labels, I made up for in dresses and Jesus sandals…BRING ON SUMMER!

That’s too funny! Actually, if memory serves me correctly (my family spends a lot of time in Mexico) Bimbo is a brand of bread/baked goods down there. They’re basically the equivalent of Hostess in the U.S. I would imagine that Bimbo is another sponsor of whatever soccer team that jersey represents… But regardless, I can see why you’d be a little cautious about letting Graham wear that to school ;)

Definitely an awesome shirt, maybe not school appropriate, but still funny.

  9. Too cute! I really hadn’t noticed the term myself since my family are freaks about soccer in every country. I recongnized the name (my brother has shirts of every team imaginable) but didn’t think it as meaning the “dumb blonde” it could refer to. I don’t think it would get noticed. But you never know!

P.S. Nathan has the CUTEST nose!!
