Brush Your Teeth, CH-CH-CH-CH…

Graham has a love for pyjamas that rivals my love of Diet Coke. His affinity for his jammies stems from the fact that they are all superhero-themed, and that’s what he wants to be when he grows up – a superhero. He has a good stash of what he now refers to as “costumes”. This is because on occasions such as Halloween I will buy superhero p.j.’s and pass them off as costumes.

Batmen!

I’m cheap ingenious like that.

He actually thinks that he’s a superhero already. He will come down from his room during the day wearing one of his beloved pairs of jammies. When I ask him to please put his clothes on, his response is always, “But if I don’t wear my costume, how can I save anybody?”

Who am I to stop him from saving the world? I’m sure Mrs. Kent wasn’t too excited about her son wearing a unitard, but sometimes you need to turn a blind eye for the better good.

Another item high on his list of favourites are toothbrushes. This is because his toothbrushes are also of the superhero/cartoon character variety. He will bring the toothbrush of the day along with us on errands and show it to anyone who even glances in our direction. He will even choose one as the toy to bring to bed. Seriously.

While we were all in the van this weekend, Graham turned to me in the car with the hugest smile on his face. He said to me, “Mommy? Can I ask you a quesion?”

Um. You just did. But feel free to ask another.

“Could you buy me a toothbrush costume?”

I started giggling, because this brilliant son of mine thought of the perfect way to make his world complete. A toothbrush! As a costume! He could fight gingivitis and save the world from yellow teeth! Then he said something that caused me to go into the silent laughter.

“Yeah! I could wear a toothbrush costume and Nathan could be the toothpaste! Nathan? Do you want to be the toothpaste?

Why was I wiping the tears away from laughing so hard? Because this is the visual that came to mind.

Action heroes!
