I saw a number of references yesterday to ‘Blue Monday’ and finally chose to Google it. According to Wikipedia, it is said to be the most depressing day of the year. I mentioned last week that I had impending doom about the Monday after my birthday because of last year, and what do you know? That dark day last year was the Blue Monday of 2012. Of course it was.
My birthday weekend was similar to last year. A night with a house full of amazing women that left me with a silly grin on my face. Much love from my husband and kids, as well as extended family members. A date night out with Mr. Matt, which saw us having a lovely dinner, followed by stopping at a pub to shoot pool for the the first time since before we even knew each other.
Monday saw us getting the kids onto the school bus and then loading our ski stuff into the truck. The valley is full of lake fog, but we spent the day skiing above the clouds and marveling at how pretty and sunny and warm it was. This year’s “Blue Monday” is a complete 180 for me compared to last year and while I could very well get to that place again, I don’t believe that I will. I’m doing work that I love, I’m running three hours a week with Jennifer, I’m attending fitness classes two times a week, and I’m being “just a Mom” a lot of the time, which is something that makes me happy. We’re also working on being above the clouds more often than we already are and that is a pretty amazing thing.
Thanks also for all of your birthday wishes here, there, and elsewhere. This community does a lot to lift me up and I want you to know that you helped to carry me through these days that can be the darkest for many.
