Blog Crisis Averted

Last week I made mention of a “blog crisis”. I had a few comments and emails from people commiserating with me. I also had a few people wonder what I meant by “blog crisis”

For me, I get into little moods where I wonder why I bother with this here site. In the past I would write about how I was feeling. Then I would get great feedback from everyone. I would come out of my funk in a day or two and I would continue posting like no crisis had ever happened. I felt like I was coming off as “crying wolf”, even though that was not the case.

I have tried to stop posting about the crises themselves. They can be caused by a myriad of reasons. Sometimes this site makes life in my real world a little weird. Sometimes I’m just moody (I’m a woman. Sue me.) Sometimes I feel like I have nothing to say but see everyone coming by and feel like I need to post something new! Or they won’t come back!

I don’t need that kind of (self-inflicted) pressure. It is tempting sometimes to hit the big “Delete This Site” button. It might even feel good for a moment or two. But I did that with my old Blogger site and regret it immensely. I have a hard copy, yes, but no archives. Boo!

So? When I am in the midst of a crisis I just close the laptop and do other things that I like to do. Like play with pretty paper. Or take photographs.

Pretty flower

(Guess who got the macro extension tube she wanted from her in-laws last weekend?)

Then I get the irresistible urge to write about what I am doing/thinking/experiencing and boy am I glad I did not delete this site.

Yesterday, I was reminded of another benefit to having this site, other than as an outlet for me to get my writing out so that I do not go crazy.

IT’S YOU! READING THIS!

Comments alone are enough to make me giddy, but I have recently received some tangible lovin’ from my Internet friends.

Firstly, I should go back to last month when the wonderful Bethany from Bethany Actually sent me some handmade magnets.

Magnets from Bethany

Three of SAJ’s Gumball the kittens (One for each kid), a Diet Coke magnet for me and a honey magnet for, um, Honey. And the girl thinks she isn’t crafty. Go say hi to Bethany!

(Disclaimer: We have a stainless steel fridge in the kitchen, but it is not magnetic. The poor magnets have to live on the seventies almond-coloured pop/beer/extra fridge in the office.)

Next up!

The ever-funny and always-wonderful Jennifer from She Likes Purple read the comment I posted on a pair of Emily’s shoes that I had posted to NoBloShoeMo. I said that I wished they came in my size. Jennifer went on eBay, found the shoes, and MAILED THEM TO ME.

They came yesterday.

Matching shoes!

We match! Miss Emily’s are getting tight, so you better believe I’ll be scouring the Internet for a size six or seven.

Go say hello to Jennifer, will ya? She’s awesome.

And last, but definitely NOT least, we have my great friend Brenda from Secret Agent Josephine.

First, she created my banner. Look up, look wayyyyy up.

Next, she created the watermark that I use on all of my photos.

She also created a custom pin-the-tail-on-the-dog for Nathan’s birthday. It’s on Flickr somewhere, but I cannot find the link right now. She does many, many things for me and I, um, buy her Starbucks gift cards.

I ordered a set of her custom flash cards and the sweet stinker she is? She threw in an extra set for Emily.

Flash cards!

She spoils me.

I am feeling the love over here. Hugely. There are many more of you who are always quick to help with HTML crap (Tina), blocking the IP’s of trolls (Heather), and so forth (Too many to list).

You guys are all too good to me. You inspire me to keep on keeping on, so I won’t be hitting the delete button. Yet.

  2. Yay! I am glad I help inspire you to keep blogging, because I’d miss you if you quit. :-) Also, a beer/pop fridge in the office sounds to me like the perfect place for Gumball & Diet Coke magnets.

  3. Such a sweet post. Thanks for the kind words and the shout out.

Also, could I possibly buy a copy of that flower print? I’d love to frame that. It’s breathtaking, seriously.

You project goodness, Angella. It’s why people are so eager to give it back.

I’m here to say that I just found your blog in the past few days and it makes me smile. I read about you on Waiting for Sophie. I’ve been reading Shana’s site for a long time and it was good to find others just learning about thier new SLRs. I bought my Canon Rebel XTi on black Friday. I’m learning plenty and have a long way to go. I can’t wait until my new lens comes in a couple of days! It makes me giddy!

Keep on posting and congratulations on the cyber friends. They’re great to have, aren’t they?

  6. I totally understand!! I’ve been in a really long blog funk, and at this point, I’m pretty sure I’m not going to snap out of it.

What keeps me going? (‘Going,’ meaning the whole once-a-week I post ;) ) The nice blog friends I have made. My blog keeps me connected to you guys.

  7. So so so jealous of that macro extension tube. BUT I saved my money all semester and just ordered a 55-200mm lens that will be here Friday!!! Wahoo!!!

I would be sad if you deleted your site. =( I’m a firm believer in guilt-free blogging. Update when you want to, and more importantly, have time to. But don’t stress. We think you’re fab no matter how often you update. =)

I too have thought once or twice about deleting my blog, but like you have found I love all my internet blogging buddies so much to let go of this whole blogging community. It is special really, we are a rare breed and getting things off our chests on these blogs of ours really does help the soul from time to time:)

My hubby bought me the Canon EOS Rebel XTI camera a few weeks ago.
I am so excited about it and so far I really like it. It is certainly a challenge but trying to learn it is my goal.
It seems I found your blog at the perfect time.
So PLEASE don’t stop blogging now…. no pressure by the way.

  16. The matching shoes are too cute!

That is one thing I love about blogging, this incredible community that connects all of us even when we all live great distances apart from one another. When we have crummy days, there is always someone there to help try to lift us back up. It’s beautiful.

  18. Aach! I think I’m in a perpetual blog crisis. No posts since Sept I think? It makes me feel guilty, because I do not send letters (or Christmas cards) to friends and family, feel bad about inflicting mass emails on people, yet still want them to know what’s up with us. But I’m not so good a writer, if I remember to bring my camera on outings it’s amazing, and a miracle if I actually pull it out and use it, so find it hard to find stuff to put in a blog. Yet for some reason walk around with story ideas in my head all the time. Facebook is easier and less time consuming, but I know many dear friends who aren’t on it. Uuggh. Sorry to vent all over your blog.

You are such an amazing writer, and photographer, and I am in awe of everything you manage to get done. I even feel bad when I don’t get to read you everyday but usually only manage a big catch up session of blog reading every 2 weeks or so, then feel sorry that I missed being able to comment on a post while it was fresh, feel it’s just too late to say anything and so remain silent. But I love reading you! OK I’ll shut up now.

  19. I got some too! Cards – not Vans or the lens (secretly turning green).

Brenda is generous to a fault – okay, not HER fault, but to A fault, which is entirely different.

And I bet she smells good too.
    I’m just sayin’

  20. Bloggity pals are the best. I am totally crushing on that Diet Coke Magnet!

I have those moments often, but don’t really write about them anymore…Mainly because I know it will pass. I am glad that you pulled out of the funk and stayed around. I can’t imagine my read list without you on it!

  21. Those shoes are great! You are such a lovely person, that’s why we all love you :-)

I hope the big delete button is put away and that you can just take breaks from it when you need to instead.

Where would I be without my DutchBlitz fix?

I love your blog Angella and would be sad to see you go.

I love your blog. It brings me joy and encouragement and a Christmas present! ;) You rock. Keep it up.

Never, ever press the delete button!! Unless it’s for your Facebook account.

  25. Your photo is beautiful. Gerber daisies are my favorite flowers! The blogging world can be very kind – that’s part of the reason I started a blog again. It’s a fun way to make friends:) I hope you enjoy your gifts, get out of your blogging funk, and have a lovely holiday!

  26. Don’t quit…I love coming to your site even if I don’t always get to post a comment (hey, Christmas is next week and I have a baby coming next week if not sooner- I’m hoping sooner!). Keep the posts on coming!

  27. I’ve not had a blog crisis yet, but have been thinking of posting a bit less often. After all, just how many stories does a person have in her? I think your macro lens is going to prove itself very, very useful.

    [Reply]

  28. No! No! No deleting. I have not have my Dutch Blitz fill yet, especially now that you have a new toy for you camera. Is it considered impolite to drool?

I haven’t been posting much lately but I do continue to stop by every chance I get. I know that it ebbs and flows for me as well, and as soon as we get back a routine here I’ll be more routine, in commenting and in posting, and I’m so glad you’ll stickin around!

Love the flower! I’m glad you won’t be going anywhere…What would I do if I didn’t have your blog to read?

  32. I always feel like deleting my blog myself. I don’t know why that is. I’m glad you didn’t. I’m new here but I really love reading you and looking at your photos.

    [Reply]

  33. oh yes, please don’t hit delete!!! I know too well how you feel. I had to take a step back and not read blogs for a while and only post when I have the time, which isn’t as often as I’d like. I love having a blog, but wish I had more time to do it…but for now I’m just doing what I can. I can identify with your feelings though.
