I remember the very first time I held him in my arms. A love like I had never known filled up my heart and burst through the walls to spill over onto this little being. I marveled in his ten tiny fingers and his ten tiny toes. He smelled like all things new and had skin softer than the finest silk.
*Blink*
I remember a pudgy little toddler who would shake with excitement over the smallest things.

We would spend our days building towers out of wooden blocks, reading (and chewing) board books, and getting baby belly laughs from the most random of events. We went for long walks, exploring our neighborhood and all of the sights to be seen.
*Blink*
I remember what a great big brother he was, right out of the gate. He took great care of little Heen-Heen from day one, and before you know it his baby brother was his play time companion and best friend. My first baby was still a baby himself, but was showing glimpses of turning from a baby into a BOY.

*Blink*
I remember his first day of Kindergarten.

My chest heaved with pride at this baby-turned-boy. It also heaved with sobs because my baby had become a boy. He launched into Kindergarten with the same joy and enthusiasm that he faces each and every day of his life. He learned, he grew, he flourished.
*Blink*
My boy, my baby, is now a Kindergarten graduate.

He has skills he did not have a year ago. He has grown about six inches and lost the baby fat that so desperately clung to him. He is witty, he is funny, he is such a little man.
Sometimes I wish I could slow life down just a little. So that I can breathe in more of his innocence. Of his zest for life and his exuberance that cannot be contained. Because what “they” say is true, no matter how cliche.
It really does go way too fast. I almost can’t keep up.

Comment by Mrs. Wilson on June 27th, 2008 @ 7:36 amI said to Sue the other day, “Wouldn’t you like to go back and have just one day with your kids when they were like 4 or 5?” Good for you for taking so many pictures and writing about your kids here – what a great nostalgic look back it will be when you get to be my age! (Oh yes, one day, you will!)

That made me all teary. What a sweet post to your first boy.
Do they ask the kindergarten grads what they want to be when they grow up? They did when I was that age and I said I wanted to be a cheerleader or a babysitter. I had very high aspirations!
